I loved how Arthas was the first boss to actually acknowledge the players are powerful. All the other bosses in every game ramble on about "You are all insects!" and so forth. But when your guild managed to kill Arthas, he says "This group before me is the greatest fighting force the world has ever known". Hearing him say that to your guild, let the players pause for a second and reflect on the months of hardwork and dedication that their guild had gone through to get to this point. It really made you feel proud of the skills and teamwork that you and your friends have.
Honestly? If arthas's plan worked and you were all turned to his side. You probably would have been a huge help and might have turned the tide back on the alliance/horde simply because you are player characters
Especially as you're laying on the floor dead taking the scene in and then rising up and finally killing him after, in my case, weeks and weeks of progression on him
@@Freestyle80 it's not so much validation as much as it is an acknowledgement of our achievements. We killed old gods beat back the burning legion and defeated the scourge. This is the first time that a character realizes how valuable of a fighting force that is. This really dosnt happen again until legion where they call upon you to lead an entire order hall. After that we are nameless champions.

Came to post this, yea. I thought they made him a raid boss later because people complained he was a huge lore character in W3 and was such a wuss in 5-man Azjol Nerub.
I thought this video idea would be too boring to just play it out strait. So I hope you guys like the fun facts I threw in to make it more interesting. You could argue that the Lich King wanted to take the strongest fighting force and make them his own elite force because Ner'zul knew he has to deal with the Legion one day.
That doesn't matter. THe very reason Azeroth was invaded by the Legion in the first place was the Well of Eternity. The Kaldorei after the War of Ancients understood that as long as the well exist, the demons will keep trying to invade Azeroth. This is why they imprisoned Illidan in the first place (since he recreated the well). So the Legion would have invaded Azeroth no matter what and would probably punish the insubordinance (second time Ner'zhul did a bad) of the Lich King as well.
What the hell? No he was not. It's literally Arthas's and Ner'zhul's soul melded together via The Lich King's Philactery, which is the Helm of Domination. Same happened to Bolvar later.

Actually Hiru Kael isnt the only boss to be an end boss in two different instances in the same expansion. Anub'arak was the endboss for both Azol'nerub and Trial of the Crusader. Lich King as well.

Lady Vashj was fantastic. I remember the night we got her down. We all went mental. Fond memories. I still have the mantle on my mage :) It took co-operation and I loved the differnt phases. Brilliant!
The depth in vanilla is what was awesome, the "in order to you need to" depth that could go down multiple layers and took time to farm that made obtaining something worthwhile
I agree for the ulduar raid! Although i only started to play during WOD my guildmates at the time made a level appropriate raid and we took it down for the achievement and it was glorious! The mechanics the aesthetics of the raid were mesmerising and keep me going back even now just to enjoy the instance (even though i have all the mog equipment). Great video as always!

Mistake you made on the LK part. The whole Ensidia exploit was not done on H LK, it was done on normal which is why it was such a big deal to the community that they got banned since why waste an exploit on a normal kill.
It was normal lich king but nobody questioned the use of the exploit on a normal boss, the question was whether or not it was intentional because ensidia claimed they had no idea why the platforms were responding, the rogue even posted logs using saronite bombs on other bosses as a pure dps increase, it was controversial because the race between ensidia and (paragon iirc) was huge, everyone knew ICC was the big raid, an answer to the epicness of ulduar that togc wasn't, and that ban cost ensidia an entire lockout of heroic pulls, which was brutal for the race It was also pretty weird because their B team and their alt teams cleared ICC really easily without the exploit the next day. The big problem with the whole thing was blizz felt they needed to crack down on raid cheating and exploits, and this high profile and ambiguous, nobody used saronite bombs as pve aids, it was such an out their method of eeking out a bit of extra dps that as a tank in a top 50 guild, I'd never even heard of the method until the ban. Icc race was really interesting at the time, the ban drama, people crashing the servers to help their favorite guild, the new attempt system and the way it changed the whole race and people's perceptions of the top guilds, it was a whole lot of fun to follow.
DARQUE is correct, the ban was for a normal kill. I was a hardcore raider back in the day and I would use saronite bombs in their rotiation, most of the top melee dps did, ban was completely not justified.

um, quick note the elves weren't dealing with the alliance of today, the "alliance" was really just garathos and the survivors of lordaeron, with help from some dwarves and elves (which he hated, and to be honest they let lordaeron fall apart during the plague and refused to help)
The saronite bombs glitch wasn't used on the heroic kill. It was used on the normal mode kill. That's why that guild went back and immediately got their kill. LK25H took several weeks before it fell.
I'm suprised that I never see Lady Vashj in any of these "top bosses" videos - I for one think it's one of the best fights in the game and was very innovative for the time, not to mention part of one of the best expansions in my opinion. I don't think i've talked to any raider in tbc that didn't love the Lady Vashj fight - so much was going on at once which was very new and innovative for the time, hunter\warlock tanks running around, splitting the raid up to quarters to get rid of the adds, passing around that thingy (forgot the name) and then having the final part of the fight where the amount of poison on the ground - if you were taking your time on killing the boss covered the whole room apart from like a little circle on the first kills. Not saying that it should be number 1 on these lists - but i'm suprised that I never see it mentioned.
@@luisf.r8146 he said "any", not "this". I agree with his sentiments about lady vashj. I think they eventually had to nerf her because most people couldn't kill her. I think the problem is that KT from the same raid tier overshadows her due to the cool weapon mechanic.
Garrosh is a true hero for the horde, a true leader, the only one that really put the horde in the place that deserved. What Thrall did to him is a shame and Thrall one day must pay for what he did to a hero.

Darin De Paul really did an AMAZING job with Blackhand.. Just awesome. He's super talented. Voicing amazing characters like Reinhardt, N'Zoth, Gallywix. And that skellyman from Apex. Oh and not to forget Ardyn Izunia from the FF15 game and movie.
Questionable things... like killing a prime Naaru... excuse me, but Xe'ra had it coming for trying to force things on him. I may not like him, but he had a point there.
I think that Ilidan was a powerhungry maniac and nothing more. He worked for Kil'Jaden and killed loads of elves during the War of the Ancients. They've turned him like this to give him a nice redemption story which goes well with fans, but not so well with his particular character.
Gul'dan, the Mythic Phase with Illidan and the entirety of the Nighthold Raid was the best Raiding Experience ever for me and also my very first Cutting edge.

Kevin5264 we got those spirits as a game mechanic in fact resurrection on the lore is so hard that only some powerfull characters can do it, only very very powerful characters
It is easy to forget anub. The character was great but people were upset that a popular villian like anub was an instance boss. So they put him in trial of the crusader, a raid very few people liked. He just kind of shows up. His fight really isn't notable. It is a shame for such a cool villian.
Kael Tempest Keep, Magister's Terrace. Anub'Arak Azjol-Nerub TotC, Lich King Halls of Reflection/ICC, those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

FrozenGrip, 4 Horsemen, maybe. Definitely not C'thun, though. The video even states that C'thun was just too overtuned and once fixed was defeated days later.

I think Nefarion of BWD is such a underrated boss. Yes it's another dragon, but one of my favorite fights in Cata, that has a lot of lore related to it. After grinding legendary cloak of mop, I just love this boss

DW boss fight is the most incredible in terms of mechanism design. You fight with each PART of DW in separate scenes instead of a giant dumb dragon as usual.
The list of things garrosh did wrong is actually larger than the list of things he did right. His biggest mistake was to say "only orcs are the Horde, so screw all the tauren trolls goblins belfs and forsaken."

You left out an important piece of info relating to The Skull; of Gul'dan: It is the reason Illidan has his current appearance. He absorbed the skull of the main universe Gul'dan when tasked with killing The Lich King, and it gave him his current look.
36:20 One more boss does this nowadays - killing you as a part of mechanic that leads to your victory: Argus. And well, if someone is supposed to be more powerful then Lich King, it would probably be a Titan... Titan who is behind the infinite power of the Legion nonetheless. Though Argus killing you isn't actually supposed to show you that he was only messing with you up until that point. He did struggle apparently.
Theramore was an alliance stronghold that was giving military aid to them, wiping it out was a strategic choice that made sense. Additionally he gave enough time for innocent civilians to get evacuated. Cairne was killed by Magatha poisoning Garrosh's weapon, while Garrosh was not in the slightest aware of this. He even later on told Magatha to go fuck herself for poisoning his blade in that fight. Vol'Jin threatened to kill Garrosh before Garrosh planned on killing Vol'Jin, nuff said.
That sword plunge from Arthas seems to be the most realistic from any media I've ever seen even to this day it makes you feel the malice and slight fear of that blade.
Gul'Dan is also the reason that orcs are green, at a yearly festival held by orc clans back on Draenor to just hang out together and enjoy nature together, Gul'Dan released a disease called Red Pox, causing 70% of infected by it, and to cure it another named orc character made an elixir of Demon blood, and orcs that drank it became green, and those that didn't became Mag'har orcs
Garrosh was a horrible, monster of a person... But it's Thrall's fault he became who he was. He gave him the tools, the power, and the authority to move all these impossibly evil plans into action. If Thrall never told Garrosh about his father -- Much less left him in charge of the Horde -- none of this would have happened.
Matasanos I believe you missed my point. My point is that when Thrall first found Garrosh, he was a proud if not bullheaded orc warrior in Nagrand who had a deep hatred for his father for giving into the corruption and dooming all of his people. However, Thrall changed his mind by telling him stories of his father from beyond the portal; including how his father beat the corruption and freed every other orc from corruption at the cost of his own life. It was after that moment that Garrosh switched his gears entirely and began his beliefs that would ultimately be the basis for his xenophobia and desire to purge all "corruption" from his people; because Thrall neglected to mention the horrible things his father committed along the way in pursuit of his people's growth. Thrall instilled a sense of superiority in Garrosh that day, and never helped shape a belief of solidarity into Garrosh once he joined the Horde beyond the portal. Garrosh put the orcs above all of the other races from the get-go, which served as one of the cornerstones of His Horde falling apart.

You're right. It does make him a good villain. I'm not denying that. In fact, what I say only emboldens the idea. However, I'm speaking more to how his actions rippled a terrible mark in Horde and Alliance history and how all of that stems from Thrall making a horrible choice while never trying to fix it.
The Iron Horde was beaten by random adventurers. They didn't even last a whole expansion before devolving into Gul'dan's original plan. The True Horde that I hope you're talking about so you don't look foolish lasted longer. But even then they were just being strung around by The Shadow Council and were ultimately built to fail in the Burning Legion's final goal; which they did until The Curse was removed and the members of the Horde still standing faught to carve out a new existence in a world they were woefully ill equipped to survive in in their crippled state. The Horde's lasting strength outside of the Legion or the sort using them comes from their combined effort of the disenfranchised masses of the world; making from them an unbeatable fighting force that can dominate the planet if they were able to function as one unit. But that falls to poor leadership and dissent amongst the ones in charge.
OverlordFlinx Garrosh' horde wasn't only orcs. It had goblins, cat people, blood elves (Dalaran) AND ogres, it was pretty clear Garrosh was amenable to the horde including many races, as his true horde was an ideal, not a race. However the sneaky and petty race leaders of the trolls, tauren and blood elves conspired with their sworn enemy the alliance and back stabbed Garrosh, including unfairly blaming him of poisoning his own weapons (something that happened as Cairne was too incompetent to deal with the Grimtotem who had harassed his tribe since vanilla) and cracking a whinge when Garrosh nuked the 'neutral' Theramore whose rebel 'nuetral' forces had also invaded durotan since vanilla. 'Oh but Jaina was being a diplomat', yeah AND an incompetent ruler whose people openly and brazenly disobeyed her, going so far as having rebel armies and invading forces. I haven't mentioned the undead because they're simply evil, fixated as they are on being Lich King 3.0 and using the plague to kill all the living races.

The depth in vanilla is what was awesome, the "in order to you need to" depth that could go down multiple layers and took time to farm that made obtaining something worthwhile

I agree for the ulduar raid! Although i only started to play during WOD my guildmates at the time made a level appropriate raid and we took it down for the achievement and it was glorious! The mechanics the aesthetics of the raid were mesmerising and keep me going back even now just to enjoy the instance (even though i have all the mog equipment). Great video as always!

Mistake you made on the LK part. The whole Ensidia exploit was not done on H LK, it was done on normal which is why it was such a big deal to the community that they got banned since why waste an exploit on a normal kill.

It was normal lich king but nobody questioned the use of the exploit on a normal boss, the question was whether or not it was intentional because ensidia claimed they had no idea why the platforms were responding, the rogue even posted logs using saronite bombs on other bosses as a pure dps increase, it was controversial because the race between ensidia and (paragon iirc) was huge, everyone knew ICC was the big raid, an answer to the epicness of ulduar that togc wasn't, and that ban cost ensidia an entire lockout of heroic pulls, which was brutal for the race
It was also pretty weird because their B team and their alt teams cleared ICC really easily without the exploit the next day.
The big problem with the whole thing was blizz felt they needed to crack down on raid cheating and exploits, and this high profile and ambiguous, nobody used saronite bombs as pve aids, it was such an out their method of eeking out a bit of extra dps that as a tank in a top 50 guild, I'd never even heard of the method until the ban.
Icc race was really interesting at the time, the ban drama, people crashing the servers to help their favorite guild, the new attempt system and the way it changed the whole race and people's perceptions of the top guilds, it was a whole lot of fun to follow.
DARQUE is correct, the ban was for a normal kill. I was a hardcore raider back in the day and I would use saronite bombs in their rotiation, most of the top melee dps did, ban was completely not justified.

You don't kill Helya in Maw of Souls. But you kill Anub'arak both in Azjol Nerub and Trial of the Crusader.
Technically Helya in Maw or Soulds is like Lich King in Halls Reflection. Final boss? Yes. Do you kill him/her? No.

um, quick note the elves weren't dealing with the alliance of today, the "alliance" was really just garathos and the survivors of lordaeron, with help from some dwarves and elves (which he hated, and to be honest they let lordaeron fall apart during the plague and refused to help)

The saronite bombs glitch wasn't used on the heroic kill. It was used on the normal mode kill. That's why that guild went back and immediately got their kill.
LK25H took several weeks before it fell.
I'm suprised that I never see Lady Vashj in any of these "top bosses" videos - I for one think it's one of the best fights in the game and was very innovative for the time, not to mention part of one of the best expansions in my opinion.
I don't think i've talked to any raider in tbc that didn't love the Lady Vashj fight - so much was going on at once which was very new and innovative for the time, hunter\warlock tanks running around, splitting the raid up to quarters to get rid of the adds, passing around that thingy (forgot the name) and then having the final part of the fight where the amount of poison on the ground - if you were taking your time on killing the boss covered the whole room apart from like a little circle on the first kills.
Not saying that it should be number 1 on these lists - but i'm suprised that I never see it mentioned.

Technically in Halls of Reflection you run away from Arthas not actually fighting him but yeah that works

I think that Ilidan was a powerhungry maniac and nothing more. He worked for Kil'Jaden and killed loads of elves during the War of the Ancients. They've turned him like this to give him a nice redemption story which goes well with fans, but not so well with his particular character.
Gul'dan, the Mythic Phase with Illidan and the entirety of the Nighthold Raid was the best Raiding Experience ever for me and also my very first Cutting edge.

Mine would be when I first heard the Lich King talk, as I did not play the previous Warcraft games and didn't even know what the Lich King looked like. Also, why do we have spirits in WoW that can resurrect us, but the other heroes do not? Is there a lore reason for this or just video game stuff? Kevin5264 we got those spirits as a game mechanic in fact resurrection on the lore is so hard that only some powerfull characters can do it, only very very powerful characters

It is easy to forget anub. The character was great but people were upset that a popular villian like anub was an instance boss. So they put him in trial of the crusader, a raid very few people liked. He just kind of shows up. His fight really isn't notable. It is a shame for such a cool villian.

The fixed Kael'Thas encounter was a fucking masterpiece. Never-before-seen in WoW. It really set a precedent.

I think Nefarion of BWD is such a underrated boss. Yes it's another dragon, but one of my favorite fights in Cata, that has a lot of lore related to it. After grinding legendary cloak of mop, I just love this boss

DW boss fight is the most incredible in terms of mechanism design. You fight with each PART of DW in separate scenes instead of a giant dumb dragon as usual.

The list of things garrosh did wrong is actually larger than the list of things he did right. His biggest mistake was to say "only orcs are the Horde, so screw all the tauren trolls goblins belfs and forsaken."

You left out an important piece of info relating to The Skull; of Gul'dan: It is the reason Illidan has his current appearance. He absorbed the skull of the main universe Gul'dan when tasked with killing The Lich King, and it gave him his current look.

One more boss does this nowadays - killing you as a part of mechanic that leads to your victory: Argus. And well, if someone is supposed to be more powerful then Lich King, it would probably be a Titan... Titan who is behind the infinite power of the Legion nonetheless.
Though Argus killing you isn't actually supposed to show you that he was only messing with you up until that point. He did struggle apparently.

hem... Cairne, Theramore, trying to kill Vol'jin ? Dunno, things like that...
Theramore was an alliance stronghold that was giving military aid to them, wiping it out was a strategic choice that made sense. Additionally he gave enough time for innocent civilians to get evacuated.
Cairne was killed by Magatha poisoning Garrosh's weapon, while Garrosh was not in the slightest aware of this. He even later on told Magatha to go fuck herself for poisoning his blade in that fight.
Vol'Jin threatened to kill Garrosh before Garrosh planned on killing Vol'Jin, nuff said.
That sword plunge from Arthas seems to be the most realistic from any media I've ever seen even to this day it makes you feel the malice and slight fear of that blade.
Gul'Dan is also the reason that orcs are green, at a yearly festival held by orc clans back on Draenor to just hang out together and enjoy nature together, Gul'Dan released a disease called Red Pox, causing 70% of infected by it, and to cure it another named orc character made an elixir of Demon blood, and orcs that drank it became green, and those that didn't became Mag'har orcs
Garrosh was a horrible, monster of a person... But it's Thrall's fault he became who he was. He gave him the tools, the power, and the authority to move all these impossibly evil plans into action. If Thrall never told Garrosh about his father -- Much less left him in charge of the Horde -- none of this would have happened.
Matasanos I believe you missed my point. My point is that when Thrall first found Garrosh, he was a proud if not bullheaded orc warrior in Nagrand who had a deep hatred for his father for giving into the corruption and dooming all of his people. However, Thrall changed his mind by telling him stories of his father from beyond the portal; including how his father beat the corruption and freed every other orc from corruption at the cost of his own life. It was after that moment that Garrosh switched his gears entirely and began his beliefs that would ultimately be the basis for his xenophobia and desire to purge all "corruption" from his people; because Thrall neglected to mention the horrible things his father committed along the way in pursuit of his people's growth.
Thrall instilled a sense of superiority in Garrosh that day, and never helped shape a belief of solidarity into Garrosh once he joined the Horde beyond the portal. Garrosh put the orcs above all of the other races from the get-go, which served as one of the cornerstones of His Horde falling apart.

You're right. It does make him a good villain. I'm not denying that. In fact, what I say only emboldens the idea. However, I'm speaking more to how his actions rippled a terrible mark in Horde and Alliance history and how all of that stems from Thrall making a horrible choice while never trying to fix it.
The Iron Horde was beaten by random adventurers. They didn't even last a whole expansion before devolving into Gul'dan's original plan. The True Horde that I hope you're talking about so you don't look foolish lasted longer. But even then they were just being strung around by The Shadow Council and were ultimately built to fail in the Burning Legion's final goal; which they did until The Curse was removed and the members of the Horde still standing faught to carve out a new existence in a world they were woefully ill equipped to survive in in their crippled state.
The Horde's lasting strength outside of the Legion or the sort using them comes from their combined effort of the disenfranchised masses of the world; making from them an unbeatable fighting force that can dominate the planet if they were able to function as one unit. But that falls to poor leadership and dissent amongst the ones in charge.
OverlordFlinx Garrosh' horde wasn't only orcs. It had goblins, cat people, blood elves (Dalaran) AND ogres, it was pretty clear Garrosh was amenable to the horde including many races, as his true horde was an ideal, not a race. However the sneaky and petty race leaders of the trolls, tauren and blood elves conspired with their sworn enemy the alliance and back stabbed Garrosh, including unfairly blaming him of poisoning his own weapons (something that happened as Cairne was too incompetent to deal with the Grimtotem who had harassed his tribe since vanilla) and cracking a whinge when Garrosh nuked the 'neutral' Theramore whose rebel 'nuetral' forces had also invaded durotan since vanilla. 'Oh but Jaina was being a diplomat', yeah AND an incompetent ruler whose people openly and brazenly disobeyed her, going so far as having rebel armies and invading forces.
I haven't mentioned the undead because they're simply evil, fixated as they are on being Lich King 3.0 and using the plague to kill all the living races.
