Tudor’s Quietest Release? Pelagos FXD “Darth Vader” Chrono (Cycling Edition)

- A Discussion around the Tudor Pelagos FXD Pro Cycling "Darth Vader". A model that arrived but has not received the attention it deserves. From a design standpoint, with so much attention put into the details as well as building on the FXD Platform, this is one of Tudor's best releases of the year. I'd even say it manages to hold its own next to the original Pelagos FXD as a completely different watch but still just as well done.

The inside rehaut is a velodrome! What a perfect design detail!! The composite case complements composite bike frames.
Velodrome! The word I was looking for and never found it. So many nuances to this gem 🔥
It’s a road team that they sponsor isn’t it? Not a track Team!!
@@alfieakaronaldog You are correct. Nevertheless, it is a nice nod to biking that might help sell the watch to cyclists who do race in velodromes. :-)
As a former amateur racing cyclist and a person that's been riding/racing bikes (Schwinn Sting Rays, to BMX, to MTB and finishing with Road and Gravel) my whole life, this is the FXD I'd been waiting for. Actually I had no idea it was coming, but the tachymeter tie in to cycling speeds is a little gem that IYKYK and will make it that much more special. Well Done Tudor, you've put another watch in my watch box and more importantly on my wrist. Extra cool points/kudos for stepping up to sponsor a cycling team! You know the beveling of the tachymeter scale reminds me of a small velodrome, just another little easter egg.
Does have the cycler charm, right? Also was big into BMX as a youngster (owned a 90’s Dyno GT & Interceptor - full chrome for days, loved them) Moved onto modified Gary Fishers (Sram, Schwalbe etc) and never really looked ahead since… seeing how far tech has come in the last decade is mind-blowing… such a brilliant touch of detail on that “tachy scale” also… the clincher? That bezel fully illuminates… didn’t know until this afternoon 🔥 Think we’ll both be eyeing a bargain when these become more available 😉🥃
The "Vader" FXD. So many nuanced details to this piece that have been overlooked by a lot of us. Goes to show that even for the pieces that Tudor knows aren't going to be the big hitters, they still manage to follow through with these excellent designs. What are your thoughts on this new Pelagos FXD? 🥃
When do we get the Dune Tudor?
Should be called the ‘Kylo Ren’ not Vader as it has red like when Kylo repaired his mask/helmet.
The ‘Velagos’?
Brilliant presentation! Thank you for sharing this information with us. Keep up the great work!
Always enjoy talking about the outliers and thank you Doc 😉🥃
Thank you for being the only CZcamsr to bring this gem to our attention..
Putting 3 tracks on the chapter ring scale makes it look like a velodrome.
I must’ve deleted a portion when I mentioned how it gives you that “track day” feel, nailed it with the velodrome comparison (bet you this is what they were going for) 🔥
They should have named it the FXD Pedalagos.
Perfect concept for this watch well dam done Sir ❤ , Dark Vadar 👌🏾🌌
Tudor is the most consistent watch brand in grear releases and updates. I think this one will be a great success, awesome look, great color scheme and very cool design. Thanks bro for the grrat video 👍🏽
They always manage to drop surprises out of nowhere, right? Great seeing you as always Abdul! Hope you’re enjoying the sun 😉🥃
@@ID-Guy Exactly, even after W&W, they come up with such a cool release. At last some sunshine here, but we will have cloudy and rainy weather for the next week 😅 Hope you are enjoying the late spring sun 😁👍🏽
The FXD line is probably my favorite of Tudor’s modern watches. I just like the pure rugged, overbuilt simplicity of their designs. They were made to be used, plain and simple. Thanks for another fantastic video at the start of my weekend! Very well done 🥃
My favourite too Alvin, no frills, nothing reflective and built to work. It’s always my go-to. Always a pleasure sharing these brother and have a super weekend yourself! 🥃
Loving that tachymeter scale. That is so well thought out.
Measuring speeds from 240 all the way down to 20 on a spiral graph over three rotations of the second hand.
Pure genius.
I somehow lost a segment of the video where I brought up how it gives off that “track day” feel - great comment mentition Velodrome. It feels like that’s what they were going for… and it just looks so darn pretty. Once again, next to the OG FXD, designers had a field day with this 🔥
The ID Guy has become the new watch snob imop. But, he is definitely not a snob just very informative and just plain cool 😎.and whatever he has in his personal collection, I find myself also wanting. Keeps the vids coming I enjoy them
as always from you a fabulous vid….regards from Germany
As a Seiko fanboy it pains me to say it, but Tudor are killing it. The FXD is, for my money the best modern diver right now.
The FXD base is a very exciting to work off and branch into chronographs etc. . Seiko will very much need to up their game if they want to compete with the FXD.
What blows me away is the FXD still doesn’t get the coverage it deserves, it’s still that iykyk piece. Three years later and the majority still haven’t picked them up 😆 More for us… but man, I’d have a mini collection of them if I could and agree that the FXD base has given them so much to work with. Well said Conor! Here’s hoping Seiko delivers some bangers this year (always open for a new 6105 or Marinemaster) 🔥
In my opinion, the FXD line is the quintessential tool Watch. This model continues to prove that assertion.
I haven’t been able to go/do anything demanding without the FXD on over the last 3 years. It just gets better and better by the year (all the better with a few battle scars) love them! 🔥
@@ID-Guy Yes! A watch that earns “battle scars” is a watch full of memories. There is something sad about the idea of a watch sitting alone, in the dark, in a safe somewhere. To each their own I guess.
Bloody brilliant name...love it. I agree that the pelagos line doesn't get it's fair share of attention, and frankly, that's simply a crime. I've turned away from other brands and refocused my attention to the seemingly unknown or less popular Tudor models. Watch lovers must be a bit daft if they don't see the value. Anyway, thanks for allowing me to rant and share my view. Great job! Cheers.
Criminally under-appreciated and I still don’t get it either. I can’t go/do anything physical without the watch on nowadays. It always manages to show off in those moments. The beauty for both of us? (And I enjoy doing the same thing, pursuing the unloved and still brilliant watches) is that they’re so much easier to find 😉 Thanks as always Craig 🥃
thanks for your video 👍🏻😉✌🏼
My pleasure to share as always 🥃
I don’t often comment on videos, but this was great, really enjoyed it
It’s always my pleasure to share these Stephen and thank you for going out of your way! 🥃
I prefer the Pelagos line over the black bay. It definitely has more character and Professional feel.
100% man, still blows me away that the majority don’t look at these for all of those unique Tudor traits. Professional watch through and through 🥃
I think that the Pelagos FDX references are a breath of fresh air. They are singularly designed as tool watches to be used with practical one pass fabric straps. They seem to sit well on the wrist. The clarity of the display of information on the Darth Vader chronograph reference is exemplary. This watch would seem to connect with the user in a way that the Black Bay references do not. This type of connectivity is only experienced viscerally and not cerebrally. I have owned a Tudor Fastrider chronograph with a Valjoux 7750 in the past but I never was excited by either the Black Bay or pre-FDX Pelagos references. The FDX references are the first Tudor references which engage me in the way that my circa 1973 Heuer chronograph engages me. The MT 5813 movement with its Breitling Caliber B01 roots is certainly a selling point but it is the dial composition and the aesthetics that tip the scales for me. I know people are concerned about coated cases and every maker seems to respond that their coating is different and more durable than that of other makers. I don’t know any of the particulars of Tudor’s coated cases but I would be motivated to find out. As the owner of the Heuer, two Omega chronographs (Speedmaster Mark ll and Seamaster Bullhead) and a Bulgari Octo Velocissimo chronograph (powered by the El Primero), I have not been motivated to consider yet another chronograph but this Darth Vader reference is particularly appealing to me.
Summed it up perfectly brother. Since the day it arrived, the FXD has been my most worn watch, not so much by choice but by necessity. Workouts, travelling, any odd job, this watch is always my go-to. Taking it diving was the cherry on the cake, never experienced such a perfect watch for task. On top of that, it’s THE Tudor charm that comes through. All the details that defined their 70’s history with great modern touches too. The Vader feels like the polar opposite to the OG diver but in a good way. So, so tempting! Thank you for your feedback on this 🔥
I love the idea of the watch it looks stunning. I would have bought this (yes im going to try it on in my AD 😁) BUT I’ve been cycling at a decent amateur level for over 20 years. This is not a cyclists watch, it’s too big. You showed the prototype watch at 41mm.
Cyclists try and keep their weight down especially racing, big legs wee arms.
I was so excited seeing this release but at 43mm it’s crazy. Also most cyclists don’t wear watches while cycling, use a Garmin/Wahoo head unit with HRM.
They are definitely popular with the Tudor pro team at the Giro as nobody is wearing them.
I love my Pelagos 39 but this 43mm chronograph is not a cyclists watch.
Just round the corner from W&W, then a curve ball. This seems almost to good, perfect symmetry with a great stealthy, tool vibe. Rugged but classy too. Sure it won’t appeal to many as there still lost in the Tudor sub! Suits me fine, rarer for us that appreciate it. Great delivery of a great watch!! 👍
This will undoubtedly be my next Tudor!
It’s so tempting… and seeing it next to the OG FXD… I’m looking at adding one too. What a killer looking piece 🔥
@@ID-Guy I'm a huge fan of the Pelagos line. I have a LHD. It's a bit chunky but I love it.
@@ID-Guy My AD has ordered one for me!
As a fan of the Black Shield model, I'm really impressed with this one! While I'd prefer a PVD coated stainless steel, I'm happy with it not being ceramic. The proportions, dial balance, and colors are all well-conceived and beautifully executed. Kudos to Tudor on this release.
Really does give off that “Fast-rider” Black Shield feel, right? Ah, dig it! Not everyone’s cup of tea but man they smashed it 🔥
Hmm how do I justify the purchase of yet another Tudor.....it's a damn good looking watch ❤
It is crazy to me that there are more Pelagos FXD models than there are non-FXD Pelagos models
Goes to show how unsuccessful the FXD has been 😆 And here many of us are waiting to see how the OG Pelagos evolves. Great point that never hit me until now!
Can't wait on your take on the new Bremont line up. Especially the new diver.....jeeeees luise! How can u copy the Chronomat 42 bracelet so blatantly and ask 4k for it? 😊
Oh my soul those Bremont’s… it was bad enough seeing the brand struggle to be fresh but then this new direction? I feel for the English brothers… you realise after chatting to them how much of their lives they’d dedicated into making the pieces (the resources spent on the movement manufacture alone) and all of that gets scrapped in the name of generic. Alas 🥃
I agree with you. Tudor really did something great with this watch and it excited me more than any of the W&W releases as well.
And kudos to you, ID_Guy. You coined an absolutely excellent nickname for this one! Spot on.
I was busy preparing another video for the week, had a few photos of this watch saved and one night thought “there’s something Vader about the colourway” - that then sparked the video I reckon 😆 Such a killer piece that nobody seems to be covering (all the better) 🔥
@@ID-Guy agreed. And very happy (but not surprised) that you covered this one in depth. You have a great eye for actually great watches over hype pieces. 🥃
If Tudor had an elapsed hours register as a third sub dial on their Chronographs I would be all over it.
Still these are really cool watches.
Great Video.
Bi-Compax dials are definitely quite niche (I’m also for Tri-Compax given the choice) Such a killer looking piece… that black date window just tips the scales even more 😉🔥
This is an epic release
We’re in the minority to appreciate it (all the better) Such a killer piece that crept out of nowhere 🔥
Look forward to this man. I'll watch this eve. Just on a little country outing in the sun just now. Hope you got my email. I'm totally in love with this Smiths...❤❤❤
I saw your W10! Love living vicariously through your pickups 😉 But a great grab-and-go “do-it-all”. Think I’ve owned about 5-6 W10’s over the years? Still regret letting go of my ‘69. It was perfect… love them! Is yours the Selita or ETA variant?? Enjoy it m’boy, more important, enjoy the sun! 🔥
@ID-Guy sellita. It was bought by a guy i know here in the borders two years ago, but it's in new condition...I got it for retail price, which is fair as they are sold out..I'd like to say I won't ever sell it because it's comfy, beautiful... let's hope that happens
I want a 39mm FXD! But seriously love this line and the new cycling is an awesome addition
The crown and pushers are made out of grade 5 titanium and pvd coated. 😄
I love the nickname!
I love the watch!
A bit pricy mind.
I think I’ll build a VK64 Seiko Mod homage for this 😉
If they made this just SLIGHTLY smaller I'd love it.
What a great watch and I want one! (I have just bought a standard black Pelagos, so...). It needs a folding clasp and not a pin buckle, especially as a tool for a cyckling team; apart from that it is spot on.
Wouldn’t it be brilliant if they made hybrid straps for these, right? Added deployant clasp… man, it would be so good 🔥
@@ID-Guy Yes please!!!!
I got my blue FXD as part of the watch exchange deal. That was the first time I saw it "live" and thought, "That's an interesting piece." A few months later, I simply can't start a day without putting it on my wrist. It is a very long honeymoon indeed.
Dear Mr IDGuy, looks like they hit it out of the park.
I have my Longines Heritage Chrono Diver already so I’m good. 😬
And speaking of Longines heritage! That’ll be my focus for the next video (was supposed to be this weeks) Best pieces on the market… you have great taste Dave 😉🥃
This is such a cool release. Out of all the Tudor lineup, I think the FXD platform is where Tudor finds their unique identity and steers clear from Rolex’s vintage releases. I’m not a fan of chronographs, but we don’t see a lot of chronographs designed specifically for cycling.
I’m an avid cyclist and so it fits a unique position in my collection that it actually wants me to have a Tudor back in the collection again.
Just the whole concept of a FXD or any fixed lugs is so appealing. Understand the size but puts me off as a daily, so do you think I should try it with a $200 AliExpress version.
I wouldn’t reccomend going down the $200 route personally (just because I think you’re missing out on what makes the OG’s great) better quality materials, full long-lasting lume on everything, water resistance and all the rest. I’ve found over the years that the FXD have become my go-to “work watch” - end up slapping it on if I’m cycling, going to the gym, BBQing (anything) And it ends up being my most worn watch every year because it shows itself best as a tool watch 😉🥃
V nice chronograph
They really know how to clean things up 🔥
One of the best examples of how text and rehaut on the dial makes for a great optical illusion. Next to the FXD original it looks much smaller!
Oooh I’m keen on this piece… and it seems like all those who’ve interacted with the watch in flesh are saying the same thing. An optical illusion that seems to fit so neatly (even though the specs are bigger than what we’d usually look at) 🔥
I’m inclined to favor watches with rotating bezels. That’s what I’ve would included in the design. Cheers ID Guy, you rock !
This only makes me want the Alinghi chrono more. Probably my next watch.
This or pelagos 39 with MN fabric strap for cyclists? Is the fixed lug more durable?
Nice to see Tudor giving their Pelagos line some more attention. I was starting to think they were gonna rename their company to the Black Bay Co.
I’m always rejoicing when they drop anything other than a BB, it’s such a cause for celebration! 😆
@@ID-Guy I knew you'd like the Claire De Rose! /s
I was excited about the first FXD chrono release until I saw the color way which I thought clashed and it was not for me. I was surprised how little fanfare that watch got compared to other Tudors that were more standard. I think this second Vader iteration cleans up so many of the initial growing pains of the Tudor Pelagos chrono.
That gives me huge IWC Top Gun vibes
Does right? IWC of the 80’s where everything, including the wearers were PVD coated 😉🥃
They just need to release the destro version of the FXD and it would be perfect
We need a Pelagos 39 in Blue! 😍
Oooh, now something tells me the P39 will be given a new colourway later in the year. Imagine a deep navy on that piece…
The Vader! This wouldve been a smash hit if it wasnt for the size. but otherwise its a killer. Hope you're well brother, speak soon.
Black on black AND look at that date window?! Man… if/when this comes up for a bargain I’ll be all over it. B09 / B01’s have proved their worth to me 😉 Definitely have another catch-up call soon m’boy 🥃
Got to try this on this week at a boutique and it is quite beautiful in the flesh. So much so that I would have bought it there and then if it had been for sale, but alas, it wasn't. Also tried on the new BB GNMT 39mm and that was surprisingly nice also, much more subtle on wrist, with the new colour way. I do think that Tudor will revisit RedBull in this range and I also think it will be around Formula 1. It makes perfect sense to do so. Cannot wait and perhaps you could do some photoshop magic around that idea?
Dam thats one sexy watch!!!!
Sleek, right? Ah, I love the details 🔥
It's good to see Tudor releasing designs that are not mere homages to Rolex back catalogue. It's a watch I could almost imagine buying, but then I remember all of the other brands without the baggage of Tudor. As for the snowflake…if lego did a Rolex…
The all blacks Tudor chrono is still the nicest
Black Tudor
Black FXD will be my next watch, saving my pennies.
Great choice! I've been weighing up my options (like a mad man) and thought about pulling the trigger on a Black variant too... given all the options from Tudor, I'd still be going after the FXD any day of the week 🥃
I want this, trying to order it
Give it another few weeks (maybe around June / July) and these will be stocked I’m sure. By the end of the year we’ll be finding them on the grey market for decent discounts 😉
I think this Tudor FXD for the Tudor Pro Cycling team is purely purpose driven. I imagine being on their team and for them to focus on their race first but as well as keep track of time and pace.
That said, the PVD case is pure purpose for them instead of a stainless steel case which would reflect the sun in their eyes as they race. One less distraction to worry about but still keeping legibility.
How do you count 1/100s? If anything, you'd struggle to read how many 1/4s have elapsed with the tip of the chrono seconds hand being so far away from the indices on the bezel. Don't know what the solution would have been... Just a longer hand would have been one, yet not ideal as it would make stuff under it, on the tachy less readable. However, I find the 3x tachy taking up too much space. I don't think many owners will find it useful, more so than the reading elapsed seconds.
What I like most about the FXD is the snowflake hour, which will obscure the sub dials so I’m going to call fail. It does give me hope though
And those FXD hands are big… far bigger than the standard snowflakes on BB’s, very good point made here Ed. We’d think it’s obvious, but more times than not, I don’t notice the obvious 🤣🥃
@@ID-Guy well this is a turnaround as it’s usually you showing me the obvious I’d missed 😂 . Great content by the way. All the best
Tudor's Pelagos line is its standout. It is the one style that separates Tudor from its big brother. Tudor is doing more with the Pelagos line, which is fine by me. As to this watch, your perspective regarding the subtle design details is making me take interest in it. When I saw the release video, it did not draw me in. I will look forward to the day when I can see and try it on in all its PVD glory.
Great point about how their promo video didn’t have enough in it to “hook us” - I was the same, almost, almost didn’t feature it. But the FXD always ends up winning (somehow) Still a pity that the majority doesn’t appreciate it BUT more for us 😉 Hope you’re well sir!
@@ID-Guy I am doing well, and thanks for asking! The Pelagos 39 has been on my wrist every day since I acquired it. Swapped out the bracelet for a leather strap, and it has quite a different vibe now.
Great video. Tudor 📢📢 Just take my 💰💵💳 Tudor is setting itself apart from the pack
Just when we think they’re resting on their laurels… they keep being creative and injecting fresh details to these “unloved” pieces 🔥 Ah, dig it!
Does anyone know the price of this watch?
Coming from an Omega fanboy, oh wow this model looks great! But, is it just me? but this model feels less cycling team and more special forces or air force model?
A 1/4 tachy scale would have been interesting. The normal tachy scale formula is 3600/t. They could have used a 900/t scale, put a marker color matched with on the minute counter, indicating that the speeds on the tachy are to be read when the minute hand is between 4 and 6. Then the tachy scale could be from 90 (10 seconds, after the 4th minute) down to 10 (30s after the 5th minute).
thank f i've set my eyes dead on the white speedy to scratch my chrono itch.. this is hot
It’s terrible, right? Tudor drops this stealthy number and Omega gives us the inverse… it’s the worst having to choose between polar opposites 😆 Also hope you manage to grab a White Dial speedy at retail (and avoid the grey market bs like the plague) 🥃
@@ID-Guy i'm patient enough to let the hype die first, also for Omega it's hard not to go grey since they often offer more discount (post-hype of course), got the NTTD Seamaster this way last year
This is a cool looking watch no doubt, but for me it’s just another example of Tudor confusing model line up… a chrono for road cyclists, with a reduced WR, doesn’t say the WR on the dial, doesn’t say Pelagos on the dial, why is it even in the Pelagos lineup?
I think the last time they omitted Pelagos from the dial was with the very first ETA model? 2-liner? Fascinating, just got me thinking 😆 But I agree, it’s more FXD than Pelagos. Isn’t a dive watch, but is using that fixed lug platform as the foundation. Hey, at least it’s not another Black Bay hahaha! I’m rejoicing! 🔥
I won't say what brand I work for but I can say the most cases we see come in damaged (not just scratched but broken lugs and cracked mid cases) include ceramic and carbon cases. If you are worried about wear and tear then stick with titanium and steel. IMO
Pelageese
I’m not a NATO strap person - but if there was ever a watch that might chg that, it’s, this. Just the right amt of red.
Tudor is just on top of their game the last few yrs.
New friend here sending may full suppor nkuwan
I love the stealth look, but my personally I am not a fan of date complications..... to be fair the balck date window is more discreet.
I never thought ID be the one saying this but it’s too busy. I liked the cyclists’ edition better, and I’d buy the Red Bull fxd no chrono
And smooth move on the Vader FXD
Tudor seems allergic to releasing a Pelagos at Watches & Wonders/Baselworld. The last time a Pelagos model was introduced at a big fair instead of as a standalone release was 2015 or 2016 (I can’t quite tell where the LHD was released)
Nice video but don’t care for this Tudor release at all. Need that new monochrome though. I also like the black Pelagos FXD on the green nato with red strap. That release seems to have gone under radar for most.
The social media hype machine for Tudor is staggering. I think Rolex are deploying Tudor hyper aggresive marketing as their plan B to make sure their new forced artificial scarcity of Rolex sports watches doesn't bite them if there is drop off in luxury. And wouldn't you know it...we have a now astonishing drop in Rolex resale combined with an unexpectedly steep drop in luxury sales in 2024. So pushing Tudor (at still very overpriced MSRPs) provides a less risky hedge. I'm blown away at how people think $4,500 for a three hand movement is now a "bargain" while Longines sell COSC with complications for $3k and they have actually have century of legi inhouse heritage unlike Tudor or Rolex. But to be fair I take my hat off to Tudor for supporting pro cycling which has been a spotty history since since the Festina debacle.
Personally I think the Pelagos is a far more interesting dial than the boring as watching paint dry Black Bay which from inception is really just an Rolex Submariner homage at a discount. Meanwhile when someone else does an homage of the Rolex Sub it's quickly dismissed. At least the Pelagos can stand as its own watch.
Looks amazing. Bit large so not my cup of tea in that aspect.
I think the bikes are all made out of carbon fiber so the case material makes sense. Also hard core cyclist tend to be very picky about the weight of things so theres that.
You’re spot-on, roadbikes are predominately carbon based today (I should’ve woken up to that) There’s some method to the madness 😉🥃
@@ID-Guy All true. But 43mm? That's not a size for pro cyclists...lol.
Peh’- Lah-gos …after the town in Greece. I am fascinated how this wrong pronunciation has spread across the watch CZcamsr universe. Thank you Adrian!
I’ve always thought that “Peylagoes” or “Pelaaaahgos” was the incorrect way of saying it. Still confuses me to this day 😆🥃
More importantly-your videos offer a unique insight and perspective that most others don’t offer. Many thanks! 🙏🏼
Why a 45 elapsed minutes counter?
I believe the plural is “Pelagi” lol
Ok everybody, go outside and find a rock -or boulder-of your choice, but wouldn't this in either a panda or reverse panda have been even more incredibly awesome?
I would like to see this in steel. Carbon gets scratched and dinged too easily.
I dont have a chronograph in my collection and as an amateur cyclists, this is a pretty compelling options, but alas, it is 43mm which is too bug for my wee cyclists arms and wrists.
A good cycling tachy scale would be 60 to 10. I know that would take some watchmaking innovation to pull off but that's a watchmaker's problem. Also, many races are multiple hours long..
cause we all now in his time off dark vader likes to ride a bike
42mm is too big for me, wish 39mm gets more love 😢

This should be turned into a bumper sticker 😉
@@ID-GuyMerch ;)
Not sure about this one. It looks like a nice fxd bred with a tag monza 2016 le. The fxd mn has lost something from this tampering imo. What next the fxd f1? Silly move.
This is the only Tudor I would consider buying. All other Tudors are boring. Never understood their success.
The FXD range gives such a unique (Tudor) touch to their designs, where the majority of their pieces lack that dash of character 🥃
It's obvious why they use their trademark hour hand on this FDX but it does not belong on a chronograph. It obscures too much.
Next…….🥱
Stunning piece totally ruined by the kids 'my first watch' hands.
Looks like a Swatch collab
At least it’s Carbon and not Plastic 😆 The Pla-lagos FXD…
@@ID-Guy I definitely see potential for a Swatch chrono Fifty Fathoms version. Maybe you could mock up a design?
@@oysterman962it’s interesting how the FF hasn’t managed to hit as hard as the MoonSwatch. Almost feels like the name just doesn’t have the same pull factor OR folks just really want an Omega Speedmaster. Would the Swatch FF chrono be waterproof / resistant? Could be insanely fun to put some mock-ups together 🥃
@@ID-Guy Interesting topic of discussion. I think it's all in the marketing. FF didn't get the same marketing budget, exposure or traction as the Omega branding. The Speedy is also iconic, now in popular culture because of space related movies and heavily promoted as the one watch collection timepiece, especially by Mr Hodinkee himself! I was at the very first launch of the MoonSwatch and it was like nothing I ever experienced before in the retail environment. Parents and children were lined up. In my city I heard there was more than 3000 people. The colour and designs offered something for everyone and it was a novelty never attempted before. Unfortunately the silly Moonshine releases was in part to blame for the decline in interest and by the time they launched the FF the watch buying public was fed up with the boutique only exclusive releases. I think Swatch overstepped the line. Timing was the key factor.
The only other watch imo that would be a guaranteed sellout in the Swatch arsenal is the Bond Seamaster in bio-ceramic. No doubt this will be forthcoming as they already have the exclusive licensing. It's a cash cow.
I doubt the FF will return in any other Swatch format unless there is an overhaul of the brand. It's a niche market. Although a waterproof chrono version would be very cool for watch enthusiasts. If they advertised as a limited edition I think it will sell but as a general release nobody is in a rush to buy.
Don't understand how the tachymeter is cycling specific. It starts at 240. How is that useful? 240km would be ridiculous. 240m wouldn't match anything in cycling. Never seen a 240m-to-go marker. On the other hand the tachy stops at 20. Why? Pro cyclists will ride slower than 20kph on a steep enough hill. Many steep hill finishes are pivotal for road cycling. Most of us will average between 10 and 20 on most iconic climbs. I get it it would have required some actual clever watchmaking but a 240 to 20 tachy can't be a cycling specific one. Just one that gives the design and marketing departments some opportunities.
I like it but as a (now retired) regional standard athlete who trained to heart rate techniques, picked up from cyclist and triathlete friends, I have to say that no way would this watch satisfy the needs of even a good amateur cyclist never mind a pro. Those guys measure many stats while on the bike (pros are wired up so their team can monitor them at all times) that only a smart device could cope with. I'm sure the team will wear them for publicity's sake but they will not be used as their main training/racing tool. All that doesn't stop it being a cool looking chrono though.
On the money, I’ve only seen them wear these pieces on the podiums so far (never during a race) And judging how they need to know their BPM, SpO2, Cadence especially, these watches are so anachronistic. Amazing how they manage to segway pieces into all these sectors (same with diving) even though the professionals wouldn’t use them 😆🥃
None of that is measured on a watch. It’s HR strap on the chest, power meter on the crankset, all talking to a cycling computer fixed to the bike itself.
@@Pete22222 My point exactly. A watch is anachronistic compared to the info collected and available for the cyclist (and his team) on smart device displays
What am I missing about Tudor? Everyone raves about them and I just don’t see it.
The Palagos and FXD lines have really been messed up with all these silly new Releases IMO.
A plastic watch, great!!
The snowflake hands don't make sense on the chronographs.
Think that hour hand is going to obscure the entire subdial 🤣
Get rid of Beckham; that's my only complaint with this brand.
You're cool with lady gaga though right
@@llcharl1e lol, hell yeah, of course 🤫
