      Whether it's the perceived unjust death of George Floyd or the perceived death of fair elections in this country, from time to time political parties will have an unresolved beef with our government. Whether you support a party that reacts by marching into the seat of authority and confronting that power directly where it lives or whether your party reacts by indiscriminate burning vulnerable, innocent, local communities is up to the individual. But one of them is inherently evil and one is inherently noble. IMHO.

It's pretty clear he doesn't like him at all, but I think the point he was trying to make was that the red voters, who are also Graham's voters, think he was a decent president, regardless of what he thinks, and that that is the reality. Now I don't agree with that but almost from a lawyerly perspective it makes sense, that slightly less than half of this country is filled with deluded wackos. And the way the US works is that these m0rons get a vote, so regardless of what he says as one politician, they will vote whomever they "think" is "best". It almost sounded to me like Graham wants democrats to do better so that less crazy red voters elect less crazy people like Trump. As someone who lives 7 miles from the TJ boarder... At no point in my life have I ever felt threatened by the "security" of our boarders. I see many people around the US, thousands of miles away from any Mexicans, with no clear understanding or point of reference, willing to throw tax dollars at a very small problem. A problem that has less of an impact on national security, or anything associated with the truly disturbing socio-economic position we're in.
    Do we have crime along the boarder? Yes, but no more than any metropolitan area in the US. So to bring this back to the conservative agenda regarding the border wall; this will do nothing other than displace families, threaten international trade with US businesses and our largest trade ally, but guess what's not gonna change? The drug trade. You know why? Because American citizens are the number one consumer of these drugs. And it's Americans doing most of the distribution. The most impactful way to mitigate crime associated with drug smuggling is to de-criminalize the drug. Not make it legal. But take it to a level in which this "war on drugs" is no longer a war on our citizens.
    As a product of my environment, I can't speak for everyone on the border, but consider my 32 years of perspective a bit more valid than some Governor in Florida who can't even pronounce guacamole.

After Jan 6th why are republicans even allowed to be elected much less allowed to be citizens. Republicans should be banned from the USA and never heard from ever again. No forgiveness. No unity with these anti-American terrorists! Never forget Jan 6th!!!

    The fact that he wanted the crowd to boo him just because it would "play well at home" shows you how bifurcated US Politics is. He doesn't want to be cheered for saying something people agree with. He wants to be booed, because that fuels the fire for culture wars which will play well for his base. That's absolutely pathetic.

    I"m looking at a lot of empathy literature, and having tough conversations with people on the other side. I think Al Franken NAILED this interview in this respect, giving Lindsey the space to say what he wanted without interjecting and overtalking. It's a VERY difficult skill to master, LISTENING when you don't like what the other person is saying.
    I respect both of these men for having a civil conversation-- Lindsey for coming onto the show, and Al for having the grace to let Lindsey speak his mind freely.
    Both were very reserved in this respect.

      I completely disagree. Its during these Daily Show visits that Graham allows himself to almost admit what a terrible person Trump is. You will notice how he goes right up to the line of calling Trump a pathological liar and otherwise horrible person. You don't do that when you trying to impress Trump. I also like how he mocks himself for his lack of success running against Trump.

    Lindsey was joking about the fact that getting along with Al would hurt him with his base and could hurt his career. I respect the attempts on both parts to reach across the aisle. The fact of the matter is that his base has no desire to coexist and he plays to that on a professional level. They think that LGBTQ+ rights and women's rights are persecution against them. It's hard to be civil and peaceful with someone who would throw you to rabid dogs without a moment's hesitation.

    • @claiminglight
      @claiminglight Před rokem

      Claiming that conservatives believe that equal rights are seen as a form of conservative persecution is a mischaracterization of their concerns. Do you really believe that conservatives stand against equal rights themselves? You're making them into an evil caricature-- which is one of the primary things conservatives point out when describing their view of liberal extremism.

    Jon Stewart did an amazing job ruthlessly grilling Nathan Dahm, and all he proved is that no amount of brute force logic and accountability will pierce the political line they've drawn. Nothing will stop their lying. Al knows this, he worked alongside these people for years, he brings a different approach - both approaches are valuable. Whether we like it or not, these people aren't going away, we have no choice but to suffer them.

    I loved Al Franken from way back.... like stuff from 20 years ago. And that's why I watched this. And I respect Lindsey Graham. I'm glad I
    watched all the way thru. And this refreshed in my mind why I respect both, in the positions they're in, even if I wish everything was totally different, and I would act differently in either position. Yet, They were respectfully sparring, yet honest and clear. Just what I would expect from both these two guys. Thank you!
    I believe we need more of this. It helps open dialogue and bridge gaps.
    There was a lack of vulnerability or real revelation. I don't expect it in such a venue, but it would be a nice surprise. Thank you Al Franken for hosting this. I'll watch the rest of your guest spots on the Daily Show. And thank you Lindsey Graham for appearing. That shows some true heart.
    Thank you!
