    Motherboards don't always have enough headers to allow you to connect all the fans that are in modern PC cases, so what can you do?
    Fan splitters or hubs are a great way to add more fans and control them from a single motherboard header.
    A simple twin port split will allow two fans to be connected to a single fan header on the motherboard. These are a great way to connect AIO or radiator fans and have them in sync with each other as the rpm or pwm signal will be the same on both fans.
    A similar option is the four port version of this allowing up to four fans to be controlled from a single header or motherboard output, although be careful with powerful fans as you don't want to overload the motherboard fan header.
    The best option for larger numbers of fans is a fan hub such as the arctic 10 port fan hub. this uses the PWM or RPM signal from a motherboard fan header but powers the fan or fans from a SATA style power connector, so make sure you have a SATA power connector spare in you PC.
    These are frequently asked questions in the Discord chat and also on the videos we produce so don't be surprised if an expert or moderator from any of our social medias point you in this direction.

    Great video! Often times, not-so-experienced system builders compare motherboards' capabilities and their price points, but something like fan headers can be overlooked! And then, you're stuck with a motherboard that meets your needs but has only one case fan header. So this video helps out! Good advice here.

    Thank you Mike! A short and practical video. Due to high costs and incompatibility with my MOBO I had to buy a couple 3-pin fan splitters for my TT fans (I was thinking of Arctic F12 PWM but... surprise! it was 4-pin, a shame). It was about 2 years ago. I'm having in mind that HUB and some Arctic P12 PWM PST Value Pack (great CFM).

    I have an Eclipse P400 case with an older ASUS board and was easily able to split both CHA_FAN into 3 regular 120mm fans without issue. The CPU has it's own header to itself.
    I got a second case for my newer PC which is also a P400 but digital. The fans will be DRGB so they are powered by SATA and daisy chained for colors, but the PWM wiring remains the same setup.
    If you're worried you might be overloading or you want your CPU fan to serve more than one fan, i suggest splitting it and connecting it with the REAR exhaust fan so your CPU and rear exhaust both have the same speed as required.
    On my motherboard splitting the CPU in 2 allows for about 8 fans without destroying the board. I am weary of connecting 3 fans to CPU_FAN headers because those fans have more chance of running at 100% speed so avoid putting 3 fans on CPU.
    Modern boards also have CPU_OPT which gives you 3 more!

    Loved the video.....was actually hoping to see if you could educate us on how to install fans into the motherboard headers....where do I plug an aio cable( cpu header/ cpu optional)....some aio coolers come with multiple cables....which ones do I need to use

      This is maybe easier to fix or at least advise if we can ask more questions and get direct answers, so feel free to join our Discord chat and we can go over it in more detail discord.gg/gaeeDPw

    So if I connect 3 led to the hub and the hub to PSU do I need to connect the other cables of the fans?

    • @mikesunboxing
      @mikesunboxing  Před 8 měsíci

      not really necessary to connect them to the hub but will need connecting to something like a controller or motherboard or they won't spin

    Hi Mike,
    great video! One question, would you go with the "case fan hub" to avoid putting too much strain onto the motherboard? In my case I have 4 fan connections onboard and I need just two 2 more. That's not much, but I just want to take as much weight off the board possible. Thanks alot. Love your channel!

    thanks for the vid. i was looking for a solution to this problem with my motherboard and wanted a solution but not a sketchy one. the arctic case fan hub is a great solution for the problem as it draws power from the PSU and doesnt strain the motherboard.

    Where do I put that fan hub in my case?

    • @mikesunboxing
      @mikesunboxing  Před 3 lety

      it is up to you really based on the length of the psu cables and fan cables, that will pretty much dictate where it can be mounted

    No mention of amp restrictions from a single PWM (some mobo can’t support over 0.3amp). This will severely hinder the fan’s function. Additionally, no mention of harmonics conflicts with three to four fans plugged in to one header. If the three fans are stacked and all split to one header, you can get chopping/pulsating sounds from the fans. Using a SATA hub or going no more then 2 fans per pwm will get rid of that issue.

    I just bought my very own and first pc just this week and my motherboard only has 3 fan inputs 1 for the cpu and 2 for additional fans. And my moms friend is giving me his old case (my own case only has a single 120mm fan and 3 80mm fan slots so im really greatful for the given pc case. Also this video gave me a lot of insight, now i just need to buy that and i get more slots for more fans. Thanks!

    Thanks Mike, You are a genius! Making this clearer, one more question
    On a 6 fan hub like artic or deepcool, I could add the 3 way splitter to two of the slots of the hub potentially giving me 10 fans, would that be to much powered Sata draw for the hub to handle?

    • @mikesunboxing
      @mikesunboxing  Před 3 lety

      Yes you can! and it should be okay for the SATA

  • @manumonkey2712
    @manumonkey2712 Před 2 lety +1

    tell me if im wrong: the motherboard will take all the fans connected on the power supply of artic as if it was one fan right? I mean that if you want to raise the speed of one fan all the fans that are connected there will raise their speed as well right?

    • @mikesunboxing
      @mikesunboxing  Před 2 lety +1

      yes the box is a repeater so it takes a single signal from the motherboard header and sends that same signal to all the 10 ports regardless of what is plugged in to them
