Freightliner fld120 FIRST ATTEMPT TO START AFTER 17 YEARS

  • This truck has 397k.
Some friend I went to school with, bought the truck brand new and in 2003 they sold everything except for the truck and some items in the trailer and a little piece of land it sits on and they moved away. It was hard to get ahold of him because they moved accross the United States. So I bought a truck and the Forklift in one of the trailers. I don't know the reason for parking everything and moving away just to let it rot.

That is the SilverAero edition. Freightliner brought them out in the early 90's as a limited edition. That is some history right there. They were all equipped with a 70 inch flat top sleeper, 3406B Cat, 15 speed fuller and that light rosewood panel. We even had one here in South Africa. I was in love when I first saw it in 1993. And the unique sound of the 3406B was something I will never forget.

hi everyone, I write from Italy I wanted to ask you kindly what difference is there between cat detroit and cummins engines? Here in Europe, each brand also has its own motor (e.g. scania with scania engine, IVECO with IVECO engine, etc.). I understand that in the U.S. you can choose various combinations for the same brand (eg peterbilt) and that it works as well for pick ups (duramax engine or stock etc.). thank you.

I can't believe that in America, abandoned trucks are just standing in such decent condition. Come and take them, revive them... In Russia, this is generally impossible. Homeless people would have long taken it to scrap metal. Or hooligans would have just destroyed them out of malice. I was very pleased with what you are doing. It’s nice to see that there are still normal people somewhere...

1991 Silveraero special edition. Manufactured in 1990 and available with 4 colors of striping. Green, red, blue and black. I pre-ordered mine in April 90 and took delivery on August 17, 1990. Sold it in 2004 with 1.3 million miles on it and the .engine was never touched other than regular maintenance. Mine had the green stripes 3406B/e with a 15 over and people would actually chase me down on the highway to get pictures.

He had this exact rig when he was hauling for Swift back in the early 90's, I used to go with him on some trips. Word to the wise NEVER haul for Swift unless you are an owner-operator. Amazing how a manufacturer can go from rosewood dash beautiful leather classics to the Columbia and mass production . Rip freightliner

@@seriksson9721 Hard to say those times it acted like it was running away and then idling if it was only running off of the ether or not. certainly sounds like an issue with fuel delivery, though. And to me, judging by the way it would crank and then start to stumble and resist cranking it makes me think the injection pump may either be bad or not timed properly. Because it almost sounds like when you have too much initial timing or heat in a gas engine and try to stat it. it'll turn then pause and then turn again. By my defnition even if it runs off of the starting fluid it still started. Now the big questions is will it stay running on its own fuel and can they get it out of there under its own power?

So, I'm a trucker now, and I have a 2014 Peterbilt 367 day cab winch truck and I first drove a truck back when I was 14 years old when my buddy's dad in Allentown hauled 80k lbs of tin scrap from Allentown to Baltimore and I went on a run with him. God bless him, he let me drive his truck on the highway with an empty trailer and I've been wanting to get a CDL-A ever since. I was 31 when I got my current job and I first started pursuing my career as a truck driver, and my current company helped me to get my license. The truck that I have now has less than 50k miles on it, because my company bought it and only had one guy to drive it, so he didn't put hardly any miles on it. I've put 26k miles on it the past year and that's not alot either, but I also drive a 550 and a 750 with a gooseneck trailer for the smaller loads because my winch truck and 48' trailer is longer than all of the sand cans and most of the wellsites that I deliver to are very small and tight. Regardless, I love seeing older trucks like this revived and used because no truck deserves to sit and be deserted.

That rattling noise when the battery was low is what blows engines up with ether. It sounds like it lived through the close call but that is extremely dangerous when not cranking fast enough. Just telling folks dont do that.

The CDL school I go to has two of them. One is parked (needs a belt tensioner) and the other one is used for parallel parking. It seems like everyone even the instructors HATE that truck. I even told the one instructor it's not bad on e you get used to the clutch....he walks away. 🤣🤣

Sir just be careful starting these old diesel trucks around your young ones. Sometimes these old diesel engines that have been sitting around for years can run away from you if the rod is stuck in full power mode. And if they blow it will send shrapnel everywhere. Not trying to tell ya what to do. But their is some dangers to this. Great vid though I def subscribed.

It's kind of sad to think about it, if you never sell your vehicle, there will be a day you park it and never use it again. Just like as a kid, there was a day your parents picked you up for the very last time, and nobody realized just when that was. I hate having vehicles sit. Vehicles want to run. I once let a daily driver car sit for six months and it almost destroyed the piston rings. During its sit, all the trim became super faded and the clearcoat began to peel and the tires began to rot. I was shocked that six months did all that to a car that was in decent condition when I parked it. Now I have a truck that has been sitting for a few months because I have some of it apart to fix it and haven't gotten it back together yet. As soon as I'm able, I'm putting it back together and at least driving around my property until I get it on the road. I picked it from a scrapyard, got it running, turned out to be in better shape than I thought it would be, but it still needs a little work to make it dependable. I know it sat in the scrapyard for about a year.

Replace fuel filters and make sure there’s fuel pressure and no air in the lines. It sounds like it’s full of air and you should never start a diesel with starting fluid. The glow plugs could blow up the engine block.

Fill the filters with fresh fuel. Then pump it up with the hand pump!! Crank it up for a bit. Then stop and refill the filters again. Repeat process until the fuel in the filters does not go down. Those old cats don’t like either. If it is the early series of cats. You can spin a main bearing so fast!!
