    I love to see people reclaiming old equipment , I commend anyone how does so !
    What you called the fuel pump , is not , but rather the injection pump, & there is probably a full pump supplying it , & where the fuel line comes out of the tank there is usually a drain valve pet-cock , on old equipment always open it to see if there is water in the bottom of the tank !
    You said 2 fuel filters which is 1/2 right , one is called a water separator ,it has a plastic nut on the bottom so you can check for water there also , however with old abandoned equipment I would also take it off & then refill with diesel !
    On the fuel injector pump , where it bolts to the back of the timing cover , there is usually a chisel make on both , that is where it was factory set It is important that it be set correctly , as in gasoline if to far advanced will be hard to.crank over & when running you will hear a sharp pinging , but if it is late you will suffer poor power & also melt the edge of the piston bowl damaging the piston !!
    As for starting, use very little starting fluid , & then in very short bursts ,& if possible start cranking before spaying, you can blow a hole in a piston or blow a head gasket , I find a way to use WD40 spraying it directly into the intake manifold, ! On my tractor I have an auxiliary starter button mounted so that I can stand outside the tractor , I took a plug out of the intake manifold , installed a small ball valve , & a plug in the end of it to keep it clean so that if I run out of fuel I can remove the plug , open the valve , stick in the WD40 needle & spray constantly until it starts to run correctly. Much safer than either ! The injectors should be taken out & serviced , they must trip at the correct pressure & spray properly atomizing the fuel !
    Since you had water in the hydraulic oil you will have to totally drain it , & also all cylinders, crack the lines open BEFORE activating & with the line off activate the control slightly to see what comes out , try to drain as much out of each cyl so as not the contaminate your new oil !
    Old hydraulic lines the rubber inside can break down , so should be replaced , any good hydraulic shop will build new ones , also there is a big filter, needs to be changed , also one for the drive transmission & it also should be drained & changed ! The trans requires special oil !
    The dirt wipers on each cyl will be dried out & cracked ,which will allow dirt into the packing gland , causing it to go out , & this dirt can scratch the cylinder , the only way to replace it is to disassemble the cyl , so while you have it apart , go ahead & rebuild it ! You will probably need special tool to disassemble, clean the cyl end thoroughly & look for a small screw or bolt that keeps the gland from unscrewing. With the cyl disassembled, check the inside for damage , it may need honed !! There are lots of shops to help you !
    Good luck

    A grader is such a handy machine, 1001 uses! Grade, ditch, crown, scarafy, tow, dress banks, degrass(pull up lawns), plow snow, plow sand. We've welded or bolted profile plates on the blade for prepping for side walks, curbs, gutters, and drains. Still like to see a ROPS and a roof or cover.

    I'm quite proud of the time took to get going right and not killing it with ether as its good to help but not to keep one going on for long periods of time. It won't hurt it but seemingly they start liking ether if used very much. I like it if they have some glow plugs and it really helps when they have primers on them... take a few minutes and see how they bleed a injector so that they pick up their fuel faster..... nice job and I will be watching for more

    The filter is a sealed unit and 14 years isn’t really long enough to decay everything like if it were 30-40 years! I’ve seen videos on those and they’re usually a challenge! This machine looks really in good shape! But you’re doing a great job my friend, it’s nice to see someone rescuing these forgotten machines! 👌🏻👍🏻

      @kirk467 Před 3 lety

      @@rustbucketrevival well I wish you all the best my friend and I have a lot of mechanics channels! You should get some procedures from them because you really missed a lot of things to do before you turn the key brother!
      You probably never need to pull the fuel pump, just spray some PB blaster on the linkage and then the starter you did good just needed to hook up some jumper wires at the solenoid and stand back after cracking a fuel line to get the air out! I think that was 99% of the problem! Never stay next to the machine when trying to crank it with jumper wired button, could start in gear if you’re not sure if it’s in neutral! Plus the first fuel filter should’ve been changed, it catches 90% of the trash the other one is a secondary filter and could’ve stayed until you had another one! Drain the water from hyd. Oil and diesel fuel tanks! But all in all you didn’t a good job trying! I suggest you watch, Wesworks, he’s an amazing mechanic on gasoline and Diesel engines! And Vise Grip Garage, Derek is an amazing mechanic too and he’s a funny guy but awesome with mechanics! Watch them if you get into this more seriously my friend! I’d like to see you get into it more but it’s not for everyone! I’m a retired welder of 37 years and I loved and if you ever need any advice on welding, don’t hesitate to ask me buddy! I hope I helped you my friend, I’m glad you’re doing it and I hope you enjoy it! You stay safe and don’t feed those Diesel engines with too much throttle and starting fluid! lol 😂👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    I also think you have a couple of sticky injectors that are dumping raw fuel making starting very difficult due to low atomization of the fuel. Those mechanical injectors are pretty easy to take apart and clean, or you can be like me and dump a gallon of ATF in the fuel tank and have it do the work for you haha, anyways, great video, cheers mate!
