Page is emulating seven layers of different guitar tracks on this one, and he pulls it off!!!
Keep in mind that Jimmy overdubbed 6 guitar tracks on the studio version of this song. Here he's doing his best to summarize those 6 tracks into a live performance with only one guitar. Pretty awesome.
Page had a lot to pull off on this one. In an interview, he said, "[‘Achilles’] was testy, to say the least, to try and replicate, or at least to get a mean average of all the guitar parts on the record.” He's referring to the 6 guitar parts he played during the studio version.
Also, this was their first concert since Plant's son died in 1977. I believe they said they felt a bit "rusty". They sounded great to me! Loved it!
It was raining a bit that night. You can't see it on the shirts of the other guys because theirs were dark in color, but if you look closely, you can see Plant was wet from the rain as well. But Page always works up a sweat regardless. lol

They certainly were, all that long pent up energy they had, not playing a concert in quite awhile.
it's hard to play live because there's so many guitar parts overdubbed on album.Other musicians even commented on hearing the song on the album and saying how will Jimmy play it live.

It IS a pun (at start u said that) Robert broke his ankle really badly in a car wreck just before writing this. But it's also meant to be an epic to the Trojan Wars in its way. I think it's one of the great moments of wordplay in rock, lol! Plant was quite literary.

During this era of Zep, Page was in the throws of a heavy heroin addiction causing him to look very gaunt, especially in his face and also I'm sure contributing to his excessive sweating during this performance.
