I’m surprised that none of the flight attendants tried to contact the pilots, since they obviously landed way after they should have.
I was a FA for NWA hired in 2007. When I flew, I always set a timer once the pilots notified me of our flight time from wheels up to touchdown. Even if we were 15 minutes behind without word from the Flight Deck, I would ring them up and ask what's going on. To this cabin crew's defense, the pilots probably informed them of possible delays going into MSP, but I'm still shocked that they didn't check in after that long. NWA changed policy shortly after though.
I'll take it Northwest didn't have those map screens on the back of the seat to show the flight position. They did exist at the time, as I followed one on a flight to Chicago in 2004.
Maybe they were asleep too
Maybe they did, and that's what got the pilots into their senses.
At least the Air Traffic Controller didn't fell asleep too... 😐
I remember scuttlebutt around Wisconsin back in the day that F 16s DID launch out of Madison and were on the runway at Volk Field before ATC reestablished coms
Great video. I don’t think I ever flew on Northwest that wasn’t delayed over an hour or two, or cancelled
Glad their certificates were revoked!
I am wondering about passengers or flight attendants noticing that the flight was not going normally. I mean some must have been used to the time it takes to reach Minneapolis, at least l
I always liked the option to "fly Northwest to Florida.
At risk of severe Disorientation.
grreat documentary
On laptops? Asleep? Or both involved in something far more engrossing - and incriminating? I guess we'll never know!
Thats why flight recorders sjould be made to record for at keast a eight hour period thsnk god they evoked thrir licrnses as they were a dznger as pilots to other planes .
If black boxes recorded longer you would have heart light breathing and little grunts thst uou get in sleep .
Long story but for a number of werks about 19 month sgo i recordered my sleep on s very sensitive voice recorder
All i heard towards five in a morning was gentle snores no other sounds
Why font they hsve a sensitive voice recorder asa back up recorder in cockpit, this one was do srnsitive that i used that you could pick traffic noise up outside bedroom window
@@bunglejoy3645 Why put Digital Video Recorders all the the Flight Deck? Facing Forward and aft.
Mpc Flight muy increíble tus videos para seguir aprendiendo de la aviación gracia a ti saludos cordiales 🎉🕵️✈️ bendiciones 🙏🙌
This is literally one of those aircraft which dosnt have a yoke
So that was a contributing factor? Were the seats made by Tempur-Pedic?
Haha, you're right! Kinda funny that the title says fell asleep at the yoke when the Airbus has sidestick controllers.
This flight wasn't dangerous, but if I were a passenger, I'd be suing. Delays happen, but one of almost 2 hours is just incredible. Idk whether to believe the pilots were asleep, or using their laptops, but regardless, they REALLY messed up, almost having NORAD involved. Geez....
It was totally dangerous with no one awake at the controls. Issues can include turbulence, change in weather + low fuel & running into other flight paths once past destination.
'wasn't dangerous', with both pilots asleep at the wheel/absent for an hour? Are you kidding???!!
@@zeke1667 I meant it was never in any IMMEDIATE danger. The autopilot was sufficient to keep the plane in normal flight.
Also, I doubt the pilots were sleeping, because:
1) I haven't heard of any previous cases where BOTH pilots fell asleep on the job
2) The pilots' story as to what happened is even WORSE than falling asleep. Obviously, you shouldn't fall asleep when driving ANY vehicle, but considering how many people are squeezed between work and home, sufficient sleep is a luxury for many, and it would've been at least SOMEWHAT understandable, albeit still not acceptable.
Using laptops in flight? Uh... Yeah. No excuses there, especially since it was against company policy.
Fuel tanks are not filled to max. only enough to get to alternate airport, etc.. They could have run out of fuel.
@@AutismTakesOn Nowadays most pilots use tablets instead of the old brain bags. Presumably company-issued tablets with only the apps/data needed for the flight.
"The goast ship"
Asleep or "distracted"... they were flying a plane for over an hour with no one in control...
Ahhh, NWA...I knew (one of) the head stewardesses, from Boston, said she started around 1968/69, had moved here to Florida-Her gig was to Anchorage, then Tokyo-BEAUTIFUL smart woman! RIP Angie, we came THIS close >
A-320’s dont have “ Yokes” to fall asleep behind. Lol
Being a airbus at least the door didn't fall off.
😴 💤 sorry slept right through your video. 😂
"Dealing with some company issues." No, the company is dealing with two "issues" on the NW188 flight deck-when to fire them immediately - or upon arrival. Will they keep their pensions? Oh - the FAA pulled their tickets. Problem solved, at least with those two boneheads.
'This is Captain Somnolescent and F/O Comatose. We have landed in Dreamland. We are definitely not woke.'
Your title says the pilots fell asleep at the yoke? The yoke? In an A-320? That’s not starting strong.
Airbus have control stick

I kind of feel sorry for the pilots.
This would have been a good video, except for the fact you ruined the mystery by putting the reason in the title. I get it though, clickbait video titles are more important than anything else right?
These reconstructions are really great. So what if the title is not to your liking. Why don't you do something better ? Its hardly clickbait either. A lot of work has gone into these. He's ruined the mystery for you ? Get a life.
@@Culpano thanks for your opinion. Mine differs.
I guess everyone remembers that. I do remember well, I was ATCo in Portugal at that time. It made quite a fuss! 😂😂
Poor bastards.
