      I think we can all agree that society was objectively better 40 years ago. Was there racism, was there poverty, was their inequity? Yeah, but they weren't as weaponized (by corporations, and their puppets/politicians) as they are now, and we weren't nearly as divided, as we are now. The Collapse was already happening back then, but it was much more subtle and small, and there was still patriotism and a belief in ourselves, our nation, and a bright future, and that's what makes these old commercials so bittersweet to use oldies that grew up in the culture they depict. I miss it. I'm looking to get out of this USA in the next couple of years. I don't want to be around for The (planned) Collapse.

      @billschlafly4107 Před 3 lety +19

      When I was a kid I couldn't wrap my head around the phrase "and to the republic for which it stands". It's a shame kids are taught that the US of A is a democracy and not a republic. Perhaps it's too complicated for children. Democracy seems like a fair system but democracy without the rule of law is by definition mob rule. In any case, it's a shame it was cut out.

      Of course they did. Wasn't too many years before this that George Carlin recorded _FM & AM,_ where he joked about hidden sex in advertising. Hilarious routine about how cigarette ad slogans were obscene, but as always with Carlin, there was a lot of truth in it. All kidding aside, I'm 100% sure that company knows that one of the things on couples' minds when they're shopping for a new bed is, "How durable is it? Because we can get really vigorous." They figured out a subliminal way to tell them, "You can bounce up and down on this thing all you want and it'll hold up nicely." Without having to come right out and say what they're saying, y'know?

    WEll, since it's 1983 again I think I'll fire up the ol ColecoVision and play Star Wars on my 15" Zenith. The one with the bad color tube that makes purple look like brown.

      Shango066 may know how to fix that, or he'll make some sort of funny sarcastic comments about it.

    What happened to the Pledge of Allegiance... was the tape like that? Because the black screen that it cuts to doesn't really match the other black screens... you too? The video glitch when that commercial comes in seems to repeat it's pattern... and it faded from the darker pitch black...
