good recreation. Justin uses light overdrive on most of tools songs (if not more distorted on some) so i would recommend adding some before the effects or through the amps built in od.

Missing the light overdrive and brand new strings, a wal or something with humbuckers to get Justin's tone. Meanwhile to get Paul's tone something like a Rickenbacker with light overdrive and a heavy pick attack.

This particular song was actually recorded with a Stingray, likely an HH, so it's technically one of the more achievable Tool bass tones. Also, no chorus on this track either. Just flange. get a second GK amp and put a Turbo Rat (or any rat, in a pinch) and you're pretty much there. His wal tone isn't terribly far from this. I think his tone has a lot of mid cut as well, so the smiley EQ's might help. I got great results with parallell processing and lo/hi pass filters in my daw as well.

It’s difficult without a Wal but not impossible. You can get pretty damn close. Your gonna want fresh strings. He uses the 110 gauge from the power slinky pack for the drop D string and hybrid slinky’s on the rest, if your broke boil them but your gonna want a heavy gauge 110 to 45 if I recall correctly. Mids at max bass about 5 and treble 7 or 8. Ya don’t need a load of distortion just turn up your drive or gain a pedal board for using pre amps is ideal. 1.0 mil pick is also helpful. And since most of us are broke and can’t afford a Wal behs try grabbing a bass with a rosewood fretboard and Mahogany body with active pickups. Thank me later

I think he definitely uses filters to get his tone. I think the wal has a built-in filter and you can adjust. I could be wrong, but I thought I saw that with someone trying to mimic his tone once in a video.
