More proof that people are slaves to their phones!!!!
I finally got to see them live a few months ago and the no phone rule was great. There was a noticeable difference in the atmosphere on the last song when they let us use phones. It really was better without the phones out. Absolutely made the concert experience better.
Never understood why people use phones at concerts and movies and just going out etc period. Life is so much more fun not starting at your phone.
@@vapingfastbreak5629 my brother was supposed to come tonight but his dogs dying so he asked for a video.
Agreed, saw them live last night in Birmingham, front row seats, was very special.
@@Stringer13ell damn bro...
That light show, the visuals ,the art with the music is the whole experience! why would you watch that through a phone, it's like someone preparing you a 5 star meal and you smother it all in tomatoe ketchup
You know what, he’s absolutely right and it makes total sense, while a phone is nice, it’s an unbelievable distraction and there is a real addiction to them.
I always love watching old concert footage, when a band goes into a big hit and zero phones pop up above the crowd. Moments like the venue blackouts during the old NIN tours are literally impossible now.
We did it last night at tool, everyone behaved, it was really good, it made the show way more enjoyable with the light show
I was there last night! It was phenomenal!!
Jury's still out about the support band. Tool covers at a Tool gig???
There has always been a row of people popping up cameras at concerts.
Phones existing doesn't make this a new phenomenon. That's like saying Facebook invented the internet.
Although, if the venue is dark, hopefully the screen of the phone recording the show is also dark (save for a bit of backlight bleed).
I completely agree with this. Maybe take a snippet but then enjoy the show and be present.
“Maybe take a snippet” is not agreeing with this. That snippet would get you kicked out, kinda hard to be present after that.
When I saw them in Colorado it was so funny to see people passing around blunts in front of security but as soon as someone takes out their phone they get kicked out, lol.
@@lotsapasta0858 Tool hit their heads not very long ago and unfortunately havent been the same since. Im glad i saw them live before they mounted their new high horse.
No texts, no calls, no camera. Be in the moment…need more of this, these days! 👍🏻
Just got from the show in Krakow and whole no-phone policy worked well. Such an amazing experience.
I wish an interviewer would ask them why they don't release some professionally shot Blu rays of their shows? I hear there's one coming out from the Lateralus tour but that's so few & far between! You'd think that with all this technology available, they would use it to their advantage! How about a VR experience? So many possibilities and we're talking like it's the dark ages.. Hopefully will be able to see them in Krakow in May!🤞
I’d be happy if it wasn’t $900 a ticket in some venues
IKR ! With that much money for tickets they are making a boat load ! I just saw Knotfest and because Ginjer couldn’t be there Slipknot played for 3 hours ! And I payed 52$ for 2 tickets ! I saw Tool in Mississauga in the early 2000’s I think it was ! Good enough for me ! Funny tickets were about the same price as KNOTFEST NOW !
I paid $380 for two tickets to Denver and didn't even get to go. Both of my vehicles decided to break down. Fuck me.
That doesn't have anything to do with the band
Resale be like:
@@commodore6430 yes sir officer sir !
I find it absolutely hilarious how they are talking about TOOLs no phone policy yet there’s bootleg videos of their shows (filmed from a phone) that’s playing in this video 😂
That's nonsense, how are we supposed to get in to the concert if tickets are on the phone nowadays? No phones lower the sale prices??
@@richardsalas4122 Because they scan the ticket on your phone, and then you just... Don't get your phone out again during the concert. Not exactly hard.
I know and understand but do you seriously think everyone is going to do it? I don't think so 🧐
And when those people don't do it they get kicked out. It's not the band or the venue's job to babysit adults
Just saw them live yesterday @ Amsterdam, and I loved the no video policy - felt like back in the early 2000s when we all went to gigs to actually enjoy the performance.
My parents ask why I don’t record anything. I always remind them to enjoy the moment, not everything needs to be saved.
Quit lying, no one ever asked u that lol. I get it, I dont use cameras either
@@trope5105 yeah, thought the same but I've got no proof of that either...
Haven't seen my daughter in 5 years. You can't imagine the regret I have that I didn't get more. I've gotten 2 since I last saw her. Court dates set for the 18th of May. The moment I see her we're taking a million pics after she is comfortable..
@@carrotcrow13 its si superficial to me though. I'm sorry bout ur s ok situation btw. But what are u remembering by taking pics. I dont get it. Let's take pictures of ourselves taking pictures, acting unnatural an put on fake smiles. I donno, its weird to me. Take a mental picture, they're much better
@@trope5105 I have severe depression and my memory is trash due to it. I can remember events but pictures help put the pieces back together more easily. When you have kids and leave like a 4 month gap (or more) it's drastic in your face difference. Plus family and kids like to get together and reminisce etc. I know my family does. I'm also a sentimental person though so 🤷♂️. My aunt has my baby pictures and for some reason that burns my fiancè's ass. Thank you btw for the kind words.
Thank you Adam. I work as a security guard for a theater in nyc and we have a strict no flash policy. But when the performer ask for no videos we strictly enforce it. But when the artist don't care we can't do anything to stop it unless you're using a pro camera. Such was the case the other night I had a woman in the balcony who started to shoot the show on her camera I told her no pro equipment so she takes out her phone and proceeded to record the whole show I couldn't stand it as a music fan but a live music fan at that. When I go to a show I never record more then 30 seconds to a minute at most.
These guys have spent their lives building an amazing and unstoppable force with pure dedication. The epitome of art itself. It’s not unreasonable to ask please pay attention. Tool is meant to be immersive. It’s not just music. It is a tool.
The tool is single use only if you’re not allowed to relive those moments.
@@hurmzz too bad for you for not showing up

Paying for their success and then being told how to enjoy the show. Wow.
Beautiful assessment.
Been to 5 Tool shows and I love the no phone rule!
5 ? You are so lucky!
I’ve been to no Tool show and also like it.
I love the no phone policy.
I do love to take pics or videos of the shows I go to as a little memento.
I do actually love immersing myself in the show more than looking at it through my phone and I respectfully didn't do that last night seeing them in Manchester until Maynard said its OK to do so for the last song.
So I did, and now I have a little token from the show.
Love Tool. Thanks guys, it was the best show I've seen. EVER!
Make an official live album/Blue-ray, a lot of people would stop bootleging the hell out of your shows, people tend to forget there are lots of countries Tool never toured before with Tool fans, and for most part of those people it's financially impossible to travel abroad to a Tool concert, bootlegs are what we have and I would prefer 10K times an official live release but if we won't I will cherish these bootlegs.
@Look good feel good Thank you! yeah..sadly I'm a Tool fan for over 20 years but they never came around these parts (Brazil) and it's really expensive for me to travel abroad so yeah...I'm still crossing my fingers for that official live release someday.
Thank you! How about release the rest of the Vic Firth Danny cam..
I agree 100% with this. I'm one of the lucky ones, but I'm sure there are fans in South America, Indonesia, China, Japan, Russia, etc, who never have (and never will) experienced Tool live. The opportunity to commit their incredible show to tape for these people and for fans to enjoy would be amazing. I understand about diluting the artform, but filming a live show is an artform in itself. Do something with it.
just seen them yesterday. the no phone policy is absolutely great, i hope every band will start implementing it. not seeing a single cell phone display in front of you, just soaking in the concert is something else
He does actually have a point.
The whole phone thing has gotten stupid in general.
Its too late to protest. It's got control of the world. You needed to speak up around 2011 or so.
As it is, I'm sorry but, either accept it or get the fuck offa Earth.
listening to this video about Tool banning phones at their shows while scrolling down a list of April 2022 uploads of Tool concerts recorded with phones
I never understood why people use there phones at shows, movies, out with friends. Like you have waaayyy more fun enjoying the moment than staring at your phone. A quick pic or vid here and there but I prefer no phones when I’m around people.
I see both sides of the argument. Phones can be distracting for others and can also take away from the experience the artist is trying to provide. On the flip side, people spent good money (very good money in tools case) to see these shows and if they choose to experience it through a phone that's their choice/loss.
Great comment but I'll side with loss 🤘
I can film while barely glancing at the phone every now and then.
It's more about everyone around you, rather than if can can film without looking at your phone. I'm so tired of going to shows and not being able to actually watch the show because my view is blocked by a dozen phon screens. I love this rule
@@Belladonna.Nightshade - That's why my personal policy is to turn my screen brightness all the way down and not hold the phone/camera over the height of my chin. This only works in elevated seating areas though where the seats in front of you are lower and the seats behind are higher. I would never block someone's view with my phone. But I'm one of million and get what you are saying.
Tool was the best show I’ve ever been to! Dying to go again!
I worked security for a venue and there is a lot of talent that doesn't allow phones or cameras. Can't say the name but one comedian I've worked with will stop his show and point people out to security to have them removed.
Absolutely Adam, I couldn't have said it better myself.
Tool put on one hell of a show, I personally loved seeing them live. So why ruin it for yourself and everyone around you with your goddam phone.
Bruh if you pay the money you should be able to take photos just don't be a dummy and turn flash off
Also the show I was at most the people who had vip tickets were taking photos so seems like a cash grab
@UCkNhllNeEaX2bx6whwHRBCw you sound like an unbearable narcissist
@@STEVES7EVE no, you are ruining it for the others. Also without flash.
I remember being around 17 years old seeing Tool for the first time in concert before cellphones were a thing. Lateralus just came out and they had the performers from the Schism video onstage with them. I still swear to this day Adam Jones was staring right at me connecting with my teenage sponge brain soaking in all that was TOOL at its LIVE finest. I truly believe the experience I was having, is exactly what Adam Jones wants everyone who listens or participates in a TOOL concert, to have. Because it was intense! I could hardly believe that a band I listened to everyday was right there. There they were. RIGHT THERE! On the stage, playing these songs LIVE, Right in front of me Unreal lol
I am in a wheelchair and I hate dealing with dweebs holding phones in the air. I am glad I grew up in a time when music, especially live music, was appreciated by so many and concerts were huge events. I would hate to be a musician and looking out to a sea of these dumbass screens everywhere. You can't immerse yourself if you're tied to your digital master.
I hate when people around me have their phones out the whole show. It's annoying, be in the moment and appreciate it for what it is.
Now if the band requests lights thats one thing. I respect them though for it. It's their show they put a lot of effort into it and are worth seeing to be in the moment
Definitely. I always leave my phone in the car. Makes the night so much more enjoyable. You have no choice but to appreciate it.
You can dislike it all you want, but he's absolutely right.
Based on the thumbnail of this vid I thought it was going to be an interview of Adam Jones directly vs a narrator reading an interview while playing clips of TOOL shows filmed with a phone...
I agree completely with the notion that people should put their phone away DURING the show. But the fact that security will threaten to eject you for taking a picture of the stage before the show has even started is taking it to an unnecessary extreme.
I agree, snap a picture and put the phone away
Adam is right. The man is a genius after all.
This is one of the best live bands you’ll ever see and hear. No phones just reminds you to absorb yourself in the whole experience, I couldn’t take my eyes off the stage. Jack White banned phones and released free pro images straight after the show for fans to use, that was a win win situation too.
I was in Budapest two nights ago and watch their concert. One guy was filming the concert, he got a warning, he puts the phone on it's pocket, and minutes later he does it again. Well, he got caught and was kicked from the concert.
I never need my phone at a concert. I dont get how people watch concerts thru their cell phones. Thats not living the experience
For real. Personally I just use mine to get photos . After that I just enjoy the show and chill out the rest of the time.
I think the no phone rule is great. I saw one of my favorite bands last week...through the phone screen of the girl in front of me because she only took I down from in front of my face when she texted someone else a video and to reply to texts.
aww...poor baby
Say something? Go stand in front of her? Throw her in the pit? So many options..
@@hurmzz It was a wild packed sold out metal show. We couldn't move more than 2 inches in any direction, you couldn't hear the person beside you talking. I felt a little bad for her because her entire view consisted of the back of the guy in front of her because she was so short. So I decided not to shove her out of the way...like I did this guy last night 😈
They like to keep an aura of mystique and mystery around their band and I think it’s a really big part of what makes them so popular.
I saw Tool 4 days ago, and the no phone rule was great. I did want a picture or two just for a personal memory, and was really pleased that for the last song Maynard announced we could use our phones. I got my shots and it was a great way of doing things.
Terrible. That's so lame.
@@kyusshead Tool has become very lame wanting to control people.
People are lame for using their phones instead of their eyes and ears.
I’ve seen Tool close to 10x and no phone zone is so refreshing. Focus on the show, no distractions. I rarely go back and watch videos I’ve recorded at shows anyways! Lol!
Stop living life through a camera lens. You miss out on the moment trying to capture the perfect pic for Insta!
Tool was awesome in January!Next month, Puscifer 🤘🏻
You paid to see a movie or a band perform, not mindlessly indulge in your screen (unless there’s emergency reasons). Someone said that watching concerts back in the older days on YouRube were much more entertaining and I agree.
My brother's wife and I got kicked out of the Tool show at the KFC Yum Center. I started to record Sober and the guy next to me said, put that up if you don't want to get kicked out. So I did. Well, my brother's wife was not so lucky later on in the show. She started to record the song just before intermission and she got the boot. I drove, so I had to do the right thing and leave too. She was irate. Security that escorted us out said there were signs everywhere throughout the venue, but neither of us saw any signs. I asked them to show me a couple on the way out and they could not point to one. Then he said they played it on the screen before the show. That is a far stretch from "signs posted everywhere". Hardcore Tool fans know this, but I am a rather casual fan of them. The head security guard said this was per "the band" not KFC YUM Center. My first and last Tool show. I just think fans should be able to enjoy the show however they see fit. They did pay the money and as long as the people around them are not disturbed, have at it. I think it's more about the money and mistique of Tool and not being plastered all over YT like every other band. I dig the band, but I don't need rules at a concert. We have laws for that. Just my 2 cents. But I respect their decision to request it, but to demand it enters a whole new ballgame.
I personally never film any more than a small snippet as a memento. But if I pay that much for a ticket, I feel it should be my choice. If spoiling the immersion for others is a problem, then doesn't the same problem apply for drinking, hollering, dancing, and all the other things that come with concerts?
I really feel like when I went to Rockville this last year, the crowd for Slipknot was kind of weak because most people were on their phones. I really feel like this is the way to go!
Yeah I saw slipknot a couple months ago and the crowd was super weak, phones being part of the reason
My favorite part of this video is that it’s all songs they weren’t supposed to film
Dude at work drove a couple hours to see tool, missed the first minute or two of the first song. Pulled his phone out immediately and got kicked out lol. he's still BEYOND pissed.
Though I love banning phones at shows , the banning phones cause another issue, rule breakers. When they get caught it causes ushers to approach them and that is a distraction too. My recent tool show was great but I was front row of my section, others Tool shows that I wasn't, the ushers continuously approaching people with phone out was more annoying than the actual phone .
Exactly. I didn’t even notice the guy next to me taking a picture, the whole row of people got a flashlight to their face and had to stand up and miss part of the show so the usher could tell him that wasn’t allowed.
they do let you record their last song of the set though. It’s really a different experience in atmosphere on that last song, it’s a pretty cool rule honestly.
I don’t mind the no phone rule. I personally like to record a bit of my favorite song from whatever band I’m seeing but I’ll follow whatever the band wants. I do want to point out that I’m one of those people who likes to go back months later and watch concert videos that I recorded 😂
I watch my videos all the time. I have a bad memory so I wouldn't remember much if I didn't record it. This isn't new to me with phones, I always brought a camcorder to events that allowed it.
For the price of the tickets they should give you a free phone when you leave.
I saw the show last week. Incredible and all the better for no phones!!
My phone cost the same as my Tool ticket...
I saw them last n Anaheim in January and being at a concert where there’s not a sea of phone screens was awesome. Their shows are so visual and it’s an overall experience and I think it’s great that they enforce the phone thing.
listen I think the whole phone thing is ridiculous. recording a whole show while you are paying to be there! but to ban them?
lol @ tool just seems a little pretentious
@@michaeldiamond76 it’s not like they take them at the door like some comedy shows, and the only time people get security on them for it is if they’re obviously recording. They’re not asking you to not have it on you, just not to record during the show AND they let people record as much as they want for one song. If being off your phone for 2 hours is a big deal, don’t go see them 🤷♂️
@@dalec4864 I'm not sure if you understand what I meant.. its not a big deal to me, I grew up in the 80s and 90s and this recording a whole show while you paid to see them live is idiotic. Why go if you can just watch it on YT lol.
I also think the band is being a tad pretentious. reminds me of the foo fighters, snake bite only fans policy at their shows backfired real bad . They were only selling at a less than 40 percent clip so the tour was "sacrificed" for the dummies, who love their bread and circus reality. best of luck
@@michaeldiamond76 I think I understand fine, I just think we disagree. I don’t think it’s pretentious of a movie theater to post signs saying not to have your phone out in a dark theater while numerous other people are in there trying to enjoy the experience and I don’t think it’s pretentious of a library to require you to be quiet to be in there. Again, if it’s a big deal to you, it’s not for you anyways, stay home :)
Accurate. Saw them in the Summer of 2017, in Sacramento, they are incredible live😀👍🏻
I don't disagree at all and never recorded the 3 awesome shows Ive seen of theirs. It's too good to not fully take in, In the moment.
Phones kill the whole experience. Especially people that stand the entire show filming. What's the point, you might as well stay home and watch it on the screen. Kudos to Tool for doing this.
Its a no brainer. I was at their show a week ago, fully immersed. When M.J.K. said that we could film the next song, i tried to get some footage, but just couldn't, i wanted to experience every moment of the concert, and you can't do that as a camerman.
Would be awesome if the band filmed their shows and then put out another live album, or Video album. I would love that
@Art Antipop yea, but you gotta also feel it, right?
I totally agree with the phone policy. I saw the the band 3X on this current tour and the no phone policy was fully enforced at 2 of of the 3 shows. I saw Tool years ago during the Lateralus tour and NO ONE had a phone in those days, and guess what? It was fn awesome. I miss those days. Everyone's eyes were glued to the stage, focused and in the zone, mesmerized by the awesomeness that is Tool. Adam is 100% correct. Put the fn phone away and be in the moment.
I remember more shows when I don't stair at my god damn phone. That memory stays in your mind forever.
Theyre so right sometimes theres people with tablets recording its like they're holding a book infront of them
Bro screaming at the beginning about blew my ear drums damn lol
Saw them in Manchester a couple days ago. So good. They're the tightest band ever honestly
Went to a tool show. No problem following the rule. I liked it.
I'm sure it was...but fuck their communist rules!!
All the Lefties want to do is control your life. I'm no 🐑
How did they enforce it? Did you put it in a locker or check it in with your ticket?
@@bigamericanshark you can have your phone just don’t record unless its the last song
Security kicks you out after a warning or 2
I absolutely adore Adam Jones but he should go through the lyrics of The Pot before adding to this subject.
Some ppl can’t let their ego go with this policy. Enjoy the damn show.
I saw Tool this year and it was awesome
im glad they dont allow it. it forced me to focus on the show and live in the moment without fidgeting with my phone and im glad they ban phones
I'm going to see them tomorrow and I can tell you that this rule that they have isn't gonna work out that much as Tool wish it could
Oh it works pretty well. It’s very easy to see A backlit phone screen when 95% of the audience is respecting the rule and it’s dark. It’s quite funny to watch people get a strobe flashlight to the face by security when they try it and it singles your out as the a hole who can’t just watch the show.
@@lotsapasta0858 totally. You’re free not to go if you can’t follow a reasonable and simple rule and you’re free to have thousands of angry fans jump on you the second the phone comes out. Tool doesn’t even need security to enforce it, the 95% of people who are happy about the policy will and do enforce it for them, I saw it multiple times at the show I was at. It’s not an infringement of freedom to ask for courtesy.
Venues need to start banning cell phone use in the 2020s.
Not a big concert goer prolly only been to two concerts in 15 years and they were both tool…honestly I didn’t even think to pull out my phone the last time I was enjoying it so much
I support banning phones everywhere!.X
My brother and I had No Problem not using our phones. We were like 'Cool, concert 90s style! 😎
I agree with the policy overall, but I also hold the same sentiment that it's only natural to want to capture some moments that blow you away and you want to relive them later. I also know that it's impossible to find a balance with that, so no phones overall makes sense.
There are many parts of the world where Tool has either not performed or not in ages. Watching live recordings is the only way for many people to experience some of Tool's stage magic. But other than that I do think that no phone policy is a good thing.
Saw them yesterday and there was no segment for fans to take photos. You take out your phone, your ass gets kicked out. Kinda sad cause I was like 30 feet from Maynard. Would have been nice to have a photo to remember the show. They come to Europe like every 10-15 years.
Kinda ironic that you read his comments (that you agree with) with cell phone footage in the background.
I hate it when people use a phone in a silly movie. During a concert it is just as distracting. And i guarantee some idiots don’t use flash correctly when they try to sneak a photo.
Well said Adam
I've just seen tool in Manchester, best gig I've ever been to. Incredible!!!!
I absolutely like it and I've seen several people removed from the venue. I think it's a perfect rule that really every band should implement. If you cant stay off your phone for 2h you have serious issues and shouldn't be at a Tool show anyways.
Love the rule. Wish they had one against boring progressions too and make an interesting album, though... EE-OOOH!
What's worse is most people are such slaves to their phones that they wouldn't be able to go an hour and a half without. We're talking extreme withdrawal from phone junkies. I can go without for a while because like alot of people too grew up without before existence and wasn't invented until already young adults
I wish phone video usage was banned at all live shows. Adam is absolutely spot on when he says people focus on filming it and then never watch it any way. I've done it, we've all done it. Maybe I'd have a look back at it once but that's it. It genuinely does ruin the experience for others having you in front of them with your camera in front of their face.
Not like I’d ever pay money to watch tool. But that’s such a slap in the face to the people who literally want to take a quick picture. It’s not ruining anything for anyone. Not everyone is addicted to social media and just want something for memory’s sake. Especially if someone lives in an area which bands don’t come to and have to take time off to travel for a concert.
Sounds like u have nothing to worry about then
They have a section at the end of the show to take a video or photo. It’s so good not seeing all the phones. People are actually engaging in the show. You should go and see them and then make your opinion
@@ianrobertson3398 I’m good lol. I’ve tried and I’m just not into them. Their opinions on this matter helped as well
Love Adam's opinion on this.
Damn straight. Went to their Rochester show luved the no phone policy. People tend to be disrespectful and tend to stick the goddamn phone in your face while they are recording.
It should be tht way. Many of survived without phones and just lighters. It was perfect
It's the same polite policy as a movie theatre, or a live play theatre, or a book reading, or you name it.
I would be totally ok with it. I respect Tool.
I would not be ok with it if it was for a performance I did not respect. But then I wouldn't be going to that performance.
I’m totally OK with this it actually gets annoying at shows when you’re trying to watch the show and all you see is hundreds of screens being held up. It definitely takes away from the enjoyment of seeing the show live
My man got kicked out of the tool show for using his phone
I've been to the Paris Bercy Show and this no phone rule was the best idea.
When Maynard told the crowd they can use their phone for the last song ; it was the worst moment of the live show. All those f...ckers chained to their phone... I wished their phone would explode in their hand.
With social media getting out of hand I agree
ive seen Tool twice. The no phones thing is wonderful. I didnt pay hundreds of dollars to watch the show thru Joe Slackjaw's iPhone screen.
If you've got a problem with not using a phone while seeing tool live, you've got a big problem that drugs won't fix.
Keep it in your pocket while your phone is audio recording
I saw slipknot and Manson and I was gonna record some of it and after about the first 20 seconds of angel with scabbed wings I had to put my phone in my pocket and raise hell, had a blast 🤘
They let ppl take their phones out at the end of the show and you see why they don’t want it, it’s a sea of ppl with their phones up and glows and flashes all over the place. I couldn’t believe how many ppl just recorded the last song and stared into their phones
I get it but for people like me who will forget the vast majority of it because of things like a brain injury it would be nice for me to be able to look back at a few pics or videos taken at that show to help me retain the memory. I’ve forgotten just about everything but stinkfist from the last tour. Sucks to be me I guess, I get it though.
Great decision.
