"I hate talking...you know, I'm talking now but...uh..."
SUCH WORDS OF WISDOM!
Aphelion819 hahahah
He probably wanted to add "...its because i have to." To that
This is your Adam on drugs.
Still funny five years later.
Talking sucks. Deep conversation with friends and family is nice. But actors bands and a lot of famous people always seem like they don’t want to be doing interviews.
this is the first time I’ve ever heard Adam speak
you mean hear a wookie speak yes?
I heard he hates talking.
I want a podcast with Adam & J Mascis.
talking with his mouth
And the award to the interview with the most awkward angles goes to...
That cover shot of Adam looking at the guitar, he would've felt like taking a bath after watching that

Big Jones fan but this wasn’t the brightest thing he’s ever said
He’s a guitarist how he talks means shit!!!
Well if I could be both when a guitarist likes the look the feel and sound of a guitar, it makes them want to give it their all. That's how it feels with my Gibson les paul standard.
Thats utter bs... Because Eddie VanHalen, David Gilmour, Gary Moore, name all recognizable guitarists: they would sound as theirselves with a cheap ass Squier guitar. IT IS about the guitarist... Not the guitar.
a good guitar makes you play better. it's that simple!
2:52 looking directly at you.
Having eye-contact with Adam is pretty scary, so I witnessed myself during the 2006 tour. I was standing second row and he suddenly just looked at me for a few secs. I completely froze.
Lmao
He's just a person like u man... A very talented one, but yeah
What Do u do for a living
Yeah had the same in 2019 when they played in Berlin. Looked right at me. I recorded it also
@@carlosdcf8268 has something more to do with the vibe he gives off than star power. Dude's just got an intimidating presence in person
"When people call us metal I fell like taking a bath." Love it.
"Its not the guitarist its the guitar"
Finally someone says it.
yeah I know multiple ppl that play and they all say "the more $ you drop into a guitar, the more they start to play themselves."
@joesl8 You are mistaken, the wood is everything unless you're playing ultra-gain music, in which case the amp rig is everything. That said, it's always gonna be your hands. If you're an intermediate guitar player with, say, an Epiphone Les Paul, you won't become markedly better by buying a Gibson. Those '70's Gibsons ain't nothin' to write home about as a group. I had a '70 Custom and it did sound great for rock/metal but the clean was just OK. A nice Historic RI is way better, but if all you play is gained-out music, you don't need an expensive Historic, a nice LP Traditional will do ya fine. The cleaner you play, the more the wood matters.
@@tyroneshuz what? the wood is just a piece of wood.. the pickup on an electic guitar is a series of permanent magnets with a coil wrapped around them.. if the strings which are ferromagnetic (they have to be) move through the magnets fields they induces a current and this av signal is going to the amp.. the wood does jackshit no matter if clean or distorted/gain/whatever effect..
for acoustic guitars or semi-acoustic ones okay.. shape, wood, volume, etc do matter ofc but for electric guitars and basses they don't.. otherwise we wouldn't use only em pickups for electric while we use piezo, microphones, magnetic and whatnot for acoustic.. and for em pickups the wood really doesn't matter.. they don't care about any resonance in the body of the guitar.. that's not how they work.. i mean you can try yourself and put a piezo pickup on a electric guitar and see how much sound you'll get from it.. that would be the easiest test to see if there is significant resonance from hitting the strings.. otherwise you can ofc also remove the hardware from a given guitar and put it into another one from different wood.. or a shovel for that matter as long as it has a neck the right size because different string length will ofc result in a different sound..
what really matters is the pickups and the other hardware inside the wood (like preamps and such), the amps and the strings..
Dunkelelf3 if that were true putting a PAF in an epi LP would give you a ‘59 LP. Pickups are like microphones. If there’s more signal going in, there’s more coming out. One of my students stripped the finish off his guitar, against my advice, around 1989 or ‘90. I knew this guitar very well. It came alive. Same pickups same height same strings same everything.
@@tyroneshuz dude microphones are used in acoustic guitars.. just google how an em-pickup works.. it's not hard to understand and exactly as mentioned before.. and for your example yes you can just change the entire hardware including pickups that another guitar uses and have close to the same sound as long as we are talking solid body guitars and em pickups and the exact same scale (string length)..
i mean sure the string frequency will also transfer to the body and neck and influence the sound slightly because it will influence the strings frequency again in return.. but i would say the difference would be rather miniscule and inaudible for like 99.9% of people..
what really makes the difference is the pickups (and other hardware), the string gauge and strings in general and ofc the amp..
just buy good pickups and you can make a cheap guitar sound good.. change a les pauls pickups for rubbish and it will sound like ass no matter what fancy woods it's made from..
after all electric guitars are made from solid wood to reduce resonance in the first place to have the oscilation where you want it - the string - and not the entire guitar.. so everything that's true for the choice of wood in acoustics doesn't apply for electrics.. woods are choosen for entirely different reasons here.. and yes the best choice is then very hard and dense/heavy wood because it allows for the least resonance and will give you good sustain because softer wood will dampen the oscilation.. but the body resonance does nothing to the pickups which are responsible for the sound..
and now another thing: if the wood would really have significant influence on the tone of an electric you would be able to hear a difference once you touch the body with your hand or put a weight on it or something.. but that is not the case.. do the same for an acoustic and you WILL hear it.. because yes here it does matter..
but for an electric the choice of wood is really for practical reasons and not for sound..
Adam Jones looks like he could play the part as the winter soldier.
Lol when I saw that movie I thought "Holy shit that guy looks like Adam Jones!"
Unfortunately I think the same when I see my aunt.

Adam is the most underrated guitarist in music.
Adam “feel how heavy it is?”
Interviewer “mmmm yeah”
Adam “yeah it’s just...it’s beef.” 🥩
Vaughn Santiago Nothing better than a slab of wood with heavy sustain. I never understood those toothpick-thin “shred” guitars
@@svfutbol20 Especially for people like me that just like things to be heavy. They just feel so solid and high quality, when it has some heft to it.
For those that don't get the '94 thing at the end.
The interview was made in '94 and when people walk up to him to talk about guitars, they think that it's some really expensive, vintage, limited edition or something. When he says that it's a '94 (in 1994), they walk away, because a brand-new guitar doesn't have the same "value" as a vintage one and is therefore, uninteresting.
Funny because all silverburst have skyrocketed in value since his signature model came out! Cannot find anything under $6,000. His signature models that sold from the store new for $10,000 are at least $22,000.
When I think of Tool I always think of Adam, many people go with Maynard, and don't get me wrong, Maynard is talented and amazing, but Adam is like more involved with Tool, in writing, editing, art, etc.. F**king talented genius.
If i am not mistaken .. adam started the whole thing anyway ..
He is half vampire half alien
Adam is both a super practical and super technical player at the same time
Underrated guitar player.
I don't think his underrated his pritty well known and respected for his guitar playing.
God I love this video, I don't know how many times I've seen it. Adam just oozes of integrity, self control, insights and overall control of his surroudings. This video just lays it down to you how awsome a person can be and yet be humble in some kind of way.
im glad they signed that record deal
I'm in love with his hair and if I can grow it like that, I will. Such a legend of a guy. How can anyone say he's arrogant? You get shoved in an interview, you tell people what you think. It's clear he wasn't all that comfortable with it.
And now in 2019 the knocked Taylor Swift off the charts...lol

I think he should write a book. He seems like a person I could listen to talk all day
The whole 94 thing is a joke. This video was shot in 1994, so much like today if someone saw him after a show and he didn't want to talk about guitars and having vintage guitars and someone walked up to him and tried to start that conversation and asked what year is your guitar, he would say 2015 edition. The joke is, it's a brand new guitar hence there is nothing special about it. Like an aged wine or whisky vs something that was just made.
Jeff Lomeli Pretty funny.
+Tele Vision It's a '79, most likely.
Jeff Lomeli funny, i had a 92 LP and havent ever found one as good. weird.

Your right, but too late now, lawyers and greed got it sown up.at least as far as getting your art exposed to more people and you getting the large cut. that's why "making it" in the traditional sense shouldn't be anyones goal.just do what you love ,don't listen to music journalists or industry insiders.King's X are phenomenal, and a few folks know who they are, but they have had zero commercial(earning money..hey,we all have to eat)success, but they still write and perform some stellar songs and are down to earth.

It's make sense that Paul was a guitar player. Because I've been playing both parts of Tool on my guitar for years. Cuz until i started playing bass, i couldn't tell the difference between the guitar and the bass in Tool.

"they say its the guitarist not the gutair, bullshit its the guitar". Adam jones is a badass
What an amazing artist. Adam Jones is truly one of a kind; he describes his guitar play as "visual" and "from the gut". Able to hit you hard where it hurts, then into throes of musical ecstacy, and indeed into the transcendental....it's like nothing else I've ever heard. Brilliant, authentic, and his work has withstood the test of time.

The amp head next to the Marshall Super-Bass is one of the original Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifiers. It is the Blackface version which was common in the early 90's. It is now seen as the best sounding dual rec.

I curse Adam Jones for making me like this heavyweight back-breaking monster.
It sounds terrific, though.

I wish. However, I did buy the Epi Custom Pro Silverburst. It's between 13-14 Lbs (Jone's is 20 Lbs) - I had never played a guitar so heavy. But it's worth it because it produces a very beefy sound, and the sustain - like Jones says - is the best there is. I wouldn't mind owning a guitar as heavy as the actual LP. Cheers.
***** I just put mine on a scale. It's actually 9 pounds. However, this is what Amazon is claiming it to be: www.amazon.com/Epiphone-Les-Paul-Custom-Pro/dp/B007AGR79O/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1483586376&sr=8-9&keywords=epiphone+les+paul
The scale I used is very tiny. It's not a proper tool for measuring guitars. Lol.
*****
I know they do. The Gibson LP Custom Pro is listed as a "20Lb guitar" on Amazon. It might actually be 17 Lb, considering that mine is listed as weighing 13 Lb and not 9. Still, I have noticed his back is a little hunched. Just look at any recent live performance and you'll see.
***** You're right. Most LPs are not heavier than 12 Lbs. I was misled terribly. Pardon my inexperience with the imperial units. Lel!

Permanently tweaked, yes a 1974 Black Beauty did that to me, as my Dad noted to a Dr, his one shoulder is 2 inches lower than the other. Great interview, nothing like a old Les Paul to have that sustain, hit a note & you can stand still & let it ring out while you take a break. Insane money being spent on Adam's signature model now.
