  • I've been used to a spartan-like design from most of my Convoy lights... so I was surprised to find this one on the Convoy website, tucked away at the back!
    The M21F has a variety of modern functions including step/smooth ramping, stainless steel tactical bezel, USB-C charging, momentary/tactical mode, battery charge indicator/voltage indicator, and lockout. It's also a formidable thrower with the CULPM1.TG emitter. In fact, it throws further than the M21B with the same LED.

    Video Notes:
    Convoy M21F
    General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality:
    • Finally, a Convoy light with a charging port! Okay, so there are a few other Convoy models with onboard charging, but it's great to see them incorporating this feature, as it makes it so much more convenient to carry around on trips. It's a few millimeters longer than the M21B. 5mm wider bezel. I really like the design of the M21F - there's a more 'premium' feel to it. Things like the stainless steel bezel (smooth finish), and better quality knurling. It just looks more modern than other models like the M21B.
    Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel, and reflector
    • Smooth, and high-quality anodizing. I like the numerous cutouts on the head, body, tail cap, and around the button - these increase the surface area for heat dissipation and look good too. The button sits flush on the surface of the light, but it's quite firm - so it won't turn on in your pocket. I like that blue accent around the switch too.
    • Runs off 21700 cell
    • USB port cover is watertight and sits flush too. The switch glows red when charging.
    • Mine comes with a CULPM1.TG which produces between 1500-2000 lumens. A black gasket sits around the LED, keeping it perfectly centered. Smooth reflector to maximize the range of this emitter.
    UI - modes
    • Modes demo
    • Tactical mode
    Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
    • Ceiling bounce test, CRI, CCT, candela
    • 793m range on 100% which is an extra 60m compared to the M21B
    • Intense hotspot with circular spill. Can be used as a walking light on lower modes.
    • Pocketable but only just - the head is 40mm in diameter.
    Considerations
    • Gets hot in 100% mode, though it does step down. I just reduce the mode to one step lower if I have the light on for a long time and it's fine.
    • No tail switch. However, there is a tactical function as I demonstrated before.
    Verdict
    The M21F is a great step for Convoy, it combines some modern and advanced features not present on other Convoy models whilst still maintaining a low price point. It's suited for mid to long-range purposes. This light would be good for those of you who might be looking at something like the M21B, but want some of those extra features and more attention to detail with the design.

    People take flashlight technology for granted, its an amazing extension of the sensors receptors, its like a super powerz its fun, were visual creatures, i really feel people that arent into flashlights are living in a kind if paper bag as far as the human experience. Staying in their sanctioned playpen at night, Fumbling for things in the dark all their life, stumbling out of bed stubbing their toe, stepping on the cat, losing stuff on night walks when something falls into the darkness, and their intoxicating viewing nature when it would otherwise not be viewable, finding that pleasing tint that seems to align with our personal physiology, there a comfort in good color rendition while in the forest. The best things in life are often taken for granted or demonized. Thanks enjoy the vids

    Hey Darren, another nice torch i really like the grey colour of that one. I got my NexTorch TA30C Max today, 1 week from order to delivery, that's some snappy service right there. Probably wouldn't of known about this brand if it wasn't for your channel.
    Keep up the good work, take care = )

      Hi Bruce! Yeah, it's different from the usual black and scuffs/scratches show up less. How are you finding your TA30C Max? Thanks mate, I've been trying to release new videos each week. Have some other lights arriving soon for next months reviews including the Wuben X1/X2 and Wurkkos TS10.

    Wonder in this M21F , how much more lux would a SFT40 put over a XPH70.3 ? And how many more lumens for the XPG70.3 ?

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  Před rokem +1

      SFT40 would throw a bit further but not more than 100 metres IMO. The reflector is still smaller. Assuming it's an XHP70.3 HI. XHP70.3 would produce around 3000 lumens max, SFT40 2000 MAX.

  • @uzumkristian5258
    @uzumkristian5258 Před rokem +1

    How about the xhp70.3 version of it? Is it better? (I'm new to flashlights so i don't know what's best for what application yet)

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  Před rokem +2

      The XHP 70.3 HI produces much more light, probably double and a bit. But less throw. Though it is still going to be a good long range light due to the HI version being a de-domed LED. The normal 70.3 is similar but less range.

    • @uzumkristian5258

      @DarrenYeoYT  Před rokem +1

      @@uzumkristian5258 I can't say for sure but de-domed LEDs like the 70.3 HI are made for higher range. The normal 70.3 will be floody.

    It is a nice light with features that would be nice on the M21B but I personally still prefer the look of the M21B, at least with the mao finish. It would be nice to have onboard charging on the M21B and either a side switch or at least ramping capability on the tail switch. I would like to see a beam comparison between them both with culpm1, if the M21F offers an actual increase in throw I'd definitely be more interested.

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  Před rokem +1

      Hi Thomas, I made a comparison video of the M21F and M21B with the same culpm1.tg - the M21F throws about 60m further. Decent considering it is driven at 6A, compared to 8A in my M21B. I'll post the video next week. Yeah the M21B design could do with a revamp/modernisation.

  • @jonskitch8082
    @jonskitch8082 Před rokem +1

    I don't think it has a tactical switch. I prefer Mantaray 8.2 with either CULPM1 or SFT, a better and cleaner beam. It does not run hot on the turbo so it runs longer. Possibly 2nd best torch pound for pound after L21b.

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  Před rokem +1

      The M21F? It has a mode on it which allows for a 'tactical mode' - hold down the button to access momentary turbo. There is a short delay between button press and activation though. The PM1 is an overall better emitter than the NM1 of you're wanting the lumen boost. However NM1 for max throw and less heat.
