    I had the pleasure of seeing this live, and she was better than anyone can possibly imagine.

    I’m a HUGE fan of the way they split the track of Eva into younger and older. Something so simple but really adds another layer to the story.

      I think like you Akex..Personally..at first I was sad cause Evita was not treated as the woman who really helped from heart the poors and women. Afterwards I accepted all and thought that the people shoud read a neutral and real biography of her. EVITA was a great womam and the Musical had brought her name all around the World..and that is very positive! Hugs from Argentina

      It was always the original plan back in the original London run in the 70s to use 3, but they cast 3 women (young, peak career and dying) of such different heights they looked daft and so changed it to Elaine Paige playing the whole track and the other two (Susannah Fellows and I can’t remember the third) became her alternates.

      @@TheSpinDoctor That isn't entirely accurate; Hal Prince certainly considered the idea of casting three different performers as Eva, but the idea had been shelved by the time the show went into rehearsal. However, by default there was one evening during the original run when Eva was played by three people in a single performance - a severe bout of 'flu sweeping through the cast took out first Elaine Paige then her alternate Susannah Fellows, whose voices both failed, and the show was finished by understudy Michele Breeze.

    • @TheSpinDoctor
      @TheSpinDoctor Před rokem +2

      @@imnew5667 Yes, it was shelved as soon as they had cast the role, long before rehearsals started, specifically because after they had cast the 3 actresses, they found them far too different in height and general look and they looked absurd on stage together if meant to all be the same person (there were transition-scenes with duo/trio numbers planned). It has been written about extensively by Elaine Paige, Susannah Fellows and the 3rd Eva (who I’ve remembered was Michele Breeze) and was in the UK National press many times over the leading role being rug-pulled from 2/3 actresses (they were paid off, tbf) and then again in the first year of the show given that the original plan did actually still happen once purely by accident during flu-season and there was a press-release: Paige’s voice gave up in Act One and she left and Fellows went on until mid-Act-Two when hers failed her and Breeze finished the show. The transitions were obviously not in the originally intended places nor was it the intended order of the three actresses, but it was a three Eva show, as originally planned.

    The way this concept used the two Evas in "Another Suitcase" was absolutely ingenious.

      No new production of "Evita" will ever be as thrilling as Hal Prince's original, but "Evita" is a classic, and surely attempts to create new stagings have to be made.

    I loved the staging of this production but I didn't love Solea in this role, she really just isn't Eva Peron. Solea's rendition of the songs was beautiful but she came off as though she knew not one thing about the real Eva Peron and played her in a grotesquely sympathetic way that is interesting if you love the musicals but incredibly concerning if you know anything about the actual Eva Peron. I think Julie, Elaine, Patti, and Elena are the only actresses as of yet to embody this creature and actually know who this woman was and how she presented herself. Solea is an incredible performer and I look forward to seeing her in Almost Famous but this Disney princess Natalie Portman portrayal is nothing short of God awful and the praise it received was even stranger which is telling of the direction musical theatre is going in.

    This staging is rough… Also I think the cast could have been stronger too
