After 1 hour surfing youtube, finally someone who explained this!!! Thank you
Sorry girl but you have been misleaded
Oh my goodness right. Your the best thanks man. Much love.
Perfect! Very simple video, but well-explained and easy to understand. Thank you for taking the time to make this! Much appreciated!
I’ve been working for GeekSquad HT for 2 years now and when I asked a co-worker who’s a 10 year vet with the company, he had zero comprehension of the bi-wire method!! Haha
This is the best breakdown on CZcams 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Have no fear TechnoDad is here!! I’m gonna start playing your video in every clients house!!
LOL! Thanks, man! I appreciate the support.
you do great job of explaining technical stuff. thx
I always thought bi-amping meant you had to use two physically seperate amp units, but this is the first video I've come across that explains how you can bi-amp with one power amplifier/receiver. And mine also happens to be a Denon. So thank you!
Yep- same as Cecilia - been trying to find very simple explaination and pros/cons -- this is the first vid I saw that made clear sense
This is awesome, thanks for giving all the info in the same video, I appreciate!
You're very welcome Matthieu. Thank you for watching!
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
You’re welcome Chris!
Thank you so much this video was extremely helpful!! I have a Denon x3500h that was meant a a different pair of speakers. I got rid of the old speakers and upgraded to rp 8000f and a rp 504c. I thought I needed a separate amp to power my speakers but I will just bi amp instead since I will only be doing a 5.1 channel system. Thanks again!
You're very welcome! I'm glad I could help.
Awesome video, most accurate statement of all time is that audio is subjective!. On the note of bi-amping though I found it is indeed VERY useful for certain speakers that are known as power hungry such as mid/high end polk speakers. Instead of purchasing that extra amp to give you another 100watts a channel to truly appreciate the speakers you can bi-amp your setup usually with your existing amp. More power on on low power speakers doesn't make sense for sure, if anything you'll accidentally blow them when that dumb friend or whatever cranks your system up to max and your heart sinks from the pops n fizzles. Just my 0.02
Great vid!
Thank you for explaining this and making is easy. I had my Klipsch floor standing speakers hooked up wrong for over a year. Now they sound incredible.
Oh wow! I'm glad you found the video then!!
Which option do you do? Bi-wire or bi-amp?
@@TechnoDad YOU need to revisit this video.. Bi amping involves using two amps. What you called bi-amping is actually Bi wiring. The best Bi amping i have seen is a tube power amp feeding the high frequency posts and a solid state amp feeding the low Frequency posts
@@MrAustrokiwi You are wrong. Technically speaking, yes it is still bi-amping with an AV receiver/integrated amplifier because they use separate amplifier channels and 2 separate amplifier channels are running to the speakers. So @Techno Dad is correct here.
BUT - yes bi-amping with separate good quality amplifiers or a pre processor and dedicated amplifier would likely be better because you have more power going to the speakers. Nearly all AV receivers are only rated for 2 channels and are pretty underpowered when you connect 7+ speakers.
@@stonecoldcustoms YOu are absolutely farcically wrong Are you the person who told this channel what Biamping was......Go read the manuals. I challenge you show me one amps manual that says biamping involves one amp and two sets of speaker posts on that amp. Every manual I have read calls it bi-wiring. Every one who know Hifi knows bi amping needs one separate preamp feeding into two separate amps... that's why its called bi amping... it is very different to biwiring that just involves to sets of wires ( manual that says it the way you do. Put up or shut up: In other words provide some proof.
here is a link to another manufacturer that calls it the way I do
www.qacoustics.co.uk/blog/2016/06/08/bi-wiring-speakers-exploration-benefits/
Thanks for the explanation! I'm upgrading to Polk S55 towers from Infinity References. I have a Pioneer Elite 9.2 receiver but after moving into a smaller home, I only run a 5.1 system.
You saved me lots of time and heartache. Not to mention, of all the videos regarding this subject…yours was the easiest to understand. Thank you!
You're very welcome! I'm glad you found my video.
Another great and simple presentation, very informative, thanks
No problem! Thanks for watching!!
This is the First time I Bi Wired speakers I did it with my Cambridge CXA80 to a pair of Polk RTi A5's and have to say I am amazed at the results. The separation between low and highs was notable and improved detail and sound staging that after listening to them single wired. I am keeping it bi Wired. I would say it's down to the excellent crossover in the polks
I just biwired my Polk 706c center speaker, and it definitely made difference! More clarity and contrast between high and low.
So many people says it won't make difference but it was like night and day for me.
Very very informative and honest. Thank you!
Hey dude, you made my day! Thank you so much :-)
Thanks. I’m buying a Klipsch Center speaker today. Now I can sound smart like I knew this all along,
Well done! Very well informed video, explained it perfectly
Great video and clarification, thanks for sharing!
No problem! Thanks for watching!
Got the info i needed. Thanks👍
It's important to know that your speakers with dual binding post have to be able to to be bi-amped.not all speakers are able to to do this.if they're not designed for this.you WILL damage them.some are only able to be bi-wired. Love the videos, lots of information.
Hey man thank you for letting me know the top binding post are for the high end and the bottom for the low. These speaker companies leave little things like that out of documentation, really helped me out.
You’re very welcome!
Hi there, thanks for another great video tut!
I have a question: my system is a simple 5.1 (Denon avr-x3600h and B&W604 speakers), I have done the bi-amp of my front speakers (with the Height1-amp), and I notice some difference(for worst) when playing stereo mode! My doubt is, when I play stereo (2 channel only) if the Height1-amp is outputting signal to my front speakers, or in this mode the speakers are only powered by the Front-amp?
Thank you in advance for your time,
Cheers,
Carlos
Thanks for the very clear video. It allowed me to understand bi-wiring. Thanks for taking the time to share that knowledge.
You're very welcome! I'm glad you liked the video.
Awesome video, very well explained. Thank you! I think bi-wire/bi-amp is more for audiophiles with a high end traditional stereo setup. As you stated, not really relevant for an AV setup where everything should be balanced. i.e. bi-wire/bi-amp was a big thing before we all started playing with AV amps. Speakers are just designed to accommodate both scenarios.
Straightforward and informative. Thanks. About to receive the identical Klispch towers and am going to give biamping a try.
Glad it was helpful! Enjoy!
Another question. I have denon avr x1300. I really like the highs when it comes to sound. Love to hear swords crossing or glass breaking, but it's not to the level I would like for it to be how can I turn up the treble so to speak.
You made it so simple. Very nicely done!
Thank you! Cheers!
Hello! Great content... thanks for all the videos and the useful information. Quick question on this topic... if I am not planning to bi-wire or bi-amp, then I should just connect the cables to either frequency of the speaker (high or low) but leaving the jumpers in place? Correct? Thanks!
Hi! Yes, you’re exactly correct!
Hey got a quick question can I add another center channel speaker on top of my center channel speaker by just going from one center spkr to the other? Will it effect the performance of those 2 speakers as apposed to just using 1.
For those receivers that don't have assignable channels you have to use y connectors from output to the corresponding input. Or for people that want to use separate amplifiers or different amplifiers to drive the upper and lower portions of the speaker it would be different.
Would you biamp SVSUltraTowers with an external amp like the Outlaw Model 7000X in a 5.1.2 set up?
HA i search for bi wiring tips and there ya are again... freakin funny dude. always got my back it seems. and thanks again for the help today man.
LOL! Glad I could help Jerry!!
Thank u so much looking forward for it
Great video. Very helpful.
You need to have 4 binding posts to the amplifier speaker terminal section to do the bi amp and the amplifier must be capable of doing that not only of a matter of power but also as to allow you to function it.
To understand that perfectly, have a look to official site of Accuphase amp, for example A 47, or other and check the bi- amp/bi- cable section in the manual. What you also will notice is that whichever function you choose, you will have to move a selector that sets the equipment accordingly.
I also want to make clear that i am not doing a commercial for this brand, but is the simpliest example for someone to understand it due to visualization.
I bi amp my front left and right. Then i used a decibel meter to set each speaker level. In the end i turned down the left and right channels. I turned up the center channel just slightly. This way during movies my centered isnt overpowered, but when i wanna jam out to the music the fronts are nice and loud.
Hi! That's what I figured people did. It only makes sense to bump up the center channel to keep up with the mains.
I think the part ppl miss is that using the balance on a bi amp set up allows you to lower the volume of woof or tweet independently, you can do this without changing thier respective frequency. Its great to be able to drop your overall tweet volume if your getting tweet stress..lol..
Question, I have an old amplifier (technics SA-TX 50) with four front channels (a and b) is it possible to bi-amp this amplifier ? Using a for low and b for high ?
Great explanation! Subscribed!
Thanks! Glad you like it!
Nice presentation! Well put! However I`m a little bit unclear on what impedance I should select on my Sansui AU-X901. Bi-Amping is what I`m after. The amp supports 2 speaker systems and the speakers are 8 Ohms rated. The Impedance selector gives me 2 choices: 8-12 ohm or 16 Ohm when both speaker systems engaged. Is bi-amping influences in any way the Ohms in either amp or speakers?
Great video sir! I have a specific question and the manual for my new speakers is vague and general for multiple speakers. I bought a pair or Kilpsch R-625FA speakers. These have the Dolby Atmos speakers built in on the top. They have 2 sets of posts in the back. On each speaker, I connected one set of posts with wires to the "Front A" of my Sony receiver. But where should I plug in the other set to? for the top atmos built in speakers? The options on my receiver are either "surround" and "surround back/height" I'm a beginner so any help would be great. I learned about banna speakers and how to wire through your other videos but I'm kind of stuck on this and can't find answers. I hope this isn't a dumb question thank you for your time!
Great video man. You explained everything very well. Liked and subscribed!
Welcome, Gustavo! Thank you!
My Denon provides power to up to 11 channels and going to the 5.1 bi-amp configuration provides faster response from the two front speakers with less delay which is something one notices with action movies in particular. If I did not bi-amp the amount of power going to each channel does not increase, it is simply not going to be used. The Denon 4300H provides more than enough power to drive my two front tower speakers in b-amp mode as well as my two large surround speakers. Difference in audio quality with the Denon was dramatic.
In the past I needed to use a separate subwoofer and sub-amplifier and being able to bi-amp the front speakers and use only a good stereo receiver makes everything simpler and takes up less space in my listening room.
It is important to use good speaker wire (like Kimber and other braid ones) or it will function like an antenna and affect the higher frequency output from the tweeters. Most of the audio add-ons are pure hype but not the advantages of braided cable for the upper end.
Thanks, my new Polks are bi wire able. going to do it.. Thanks for the diagram... heard this improves sound quality and performance.
You're welcome! I hope it works out for you!
best vid about this topic, thank you very much, helped me a lot
Glad it helped!
Thank you for clearly explaining something that was confusing me! I am curious if bi-amp'ing specifically a center channel speaker would make dialog more clear at lower volumes? That's assuming one has a high end center channel with dual posts... But, increasing the wattage to a center channel with a better receiver would probably accomplish the same thing?
Well done. Thank you.
Great explanation and Thanks! I have a question, I have the klipsch f3 surround sound system with the Yamaha RX-V661 AV Receiver. I believe I can bi-amp with this setup but will this take away the sound of the rear surround? My guess is with the front mains having more power they will just sound louder, correct?
Hi Dale! Sorry for the late reply. Yes, you will get a little bit louder and the speaker should hit harder on those dynamic shifts.
Very discriptive and helpful. 😀
Thanks!
Can all speakers in Yamaha 583 be, bi - amped. As there's not much power in the receiver, I need to know whether bi amping could make a difference. Thanks
I have a yamaha rx-a3020 (yeah it's old and out of date) and don't have the on screen options of your denon to tell what speakers to connect if I were to want to try to biamp my rear speakers what outputs should I connect to? right now they are in the surround position should I connect to surround back? I have spare wires so I'm curious to see if this helps my rear presence. Lastly will this be bad to do since my front and centre speakers don't have the bi connectivity?
very good advice ..THANKS
Great video! Question: I am thinking of buying a pair of Klipsch Reference R-26FA Dolby Atmos speakers. I have an old receiver with only right & left speaker outlets. These speakers have 2 speaker terminals: one for the main drivers and the other for the Dolby Atmos. Would I be able to run a speaker wire from the main driver terminal to the Dolby Atmos terminal and then to my reviver?
I'm telling you... the best straight forward explanation!! THANKS. (just one question : if I Bi-Amp, and the power go over and above the wattage the speaker is designed for (ex. speaker handles 300w, but by Bi-Amping , there will be a total of 350 W pushing the speaker! Is there a problem? Will it wreck the speaker?. ).
... and my logic view here: Bi_wire = should NOT have any changes at all. Why?? = on the amp output plugs, the wires are connected to each other (either via metal-to-metal, banana / hole / etc etc), so the electricity going through one wire should be the same to the other wire. So, whatever electricity arriving at the speaker will be exactly the same, no matter if it comes by one wire (with bridge between poles), or 2 wires (with no bridge between poles).
Thank you Marcio!! It’s better to overpower your speakers as opposed to under powering them. So if you’re over by 50 - 150 watts rms you should be fine. Having that extra headroom for dynamic shifts in your content is clutch. So in bi-wire the amp should see two speaker which means you are connecting in parallel. This would cause the amp to see half the ohm load. So we would take 8 ohm speakers down to 4 ohms and the amp puts out around double the power. That’s the idea. Not really sure if it works that well. I didn’t notice much difference when I bi-wired the speakers.
Hi Chana, just started inquiring about the extra terminals on my speakers. I am using a Denon X4300h and I am pre out my left and right channels out to my external old Denon AVR-5800.
Will bi amping with with pre-out settings? I like the the idea of bi-amping but I do not want to connect things that will make my gear go haywire. What do you recommend?
Nice presentation
Great Presentation it is one of the first explanations on bi-wiring speakers that didn’t make me feel like I missed out learning the English language. Very well done. Now here is my question I recently purchased a pair of B&W 705 S2 from Magnolia they had an Open Box of them and I talked them down because of a scratch to $1,000 +tax compared to $2,995.00 retail I got a good deal. Now I have them hooked up to a Sony DN-1000 receiver but with my current configuration I think I am doing something wrong, they just don’t sound as good as I know they should. Here is my set up. Sony DN1000 receiver. B&W 705 S2 front, B&W HTM72 S2, BIC venturi V52 surround back and a Pinnacle SUBcompact 6 subwoofer. The sub is 200 watts with terminals in back should I put the BIC surrounds back there ? I am at a loss. I know my receiver should be upgraded but the wife said HELL NO ... it has to wait. Any advice would be appreciated. I also have an Old Adcom GFA-535 amp would that help improve things ? Thanks again for your show it was informative to say the least.
Thanks
So I finally got my first set of Klipsch floorstanding speakers used (R-26Fs) of course with the jumper plate missing and the balance feels really off center heavy. It could be and probably is my receiver (a yamaha HTR-5740) since this wasn't exactly a well thought out purchase, but a quick one after my old receiver died. I don't know much about the receiver it's just what I could get in an hour with no more home theater stores near me, no idea if the A and B for left and right speakers have separate amps, but I gotta get it sorted.
I'm considering using this process for my Klipsch 620, just want to make sure I understand correctly, using my Yamaha M-60 which has 3 two channel speaker outputs, I can bi-amp from speaker A & B to the dual binding posts for the lower & higher frequencies? Thanks in advance!
hi there
I want to know if I can add a bookshelf atmos to 5.2 setup to create 7.2.2 without purchasing additional amp? I have a nr686 receiver.
Hello, I need a little help...I have Klipsch RP280f and center rp450....now I would like to try this biamp...is my av reciever strong enough to not damage the speakers...150 watts per channel, 90 whatts on 2 channel...yamaha rx a730....
What do you suggest about HZ how low I can go...now I have 60HZ....would be any diferents if I go to 40HZ? What is the best setup?
Techno Dad, Find your channel very informative...keep up the great work! Question: I own two Def Tech towers and a center channel speaker with built in subs, each of which have three binding posts...high, mid, low. I get bi-amping the high and mid terminals, but I'm confused on base management using the full range low level in for subs. I'm using Marantz SR8015 receiver. I would assume I could utilize the sub outs on the receiver, however, Def Tech states "If I'm using low-level "Left or Right Full Range Inputs" to drive the subs, that you use full range left and right channel low level signals to feed these inputs, NOT, REPEAT, not subwoofer output signals". Confused. Might you shed some light on this. Thank you.
Hey, Thanks for video. Wondering what would be the best receiver for a pair of rtia9's? they can supposedly handle 500 watt each.
Technodad, help me figure this out. If I decide to biamp my Klipsch RF82II, does that mean two cables would go to an unused amp on my A/V (let's use the height speaker connection as example) and then use the other 2 cable into it's respective connection( front left speaker to front left amp) from my speaker? And if so, can I connect 2 cables from my front speaker to an emotiva amp and the other 2 cables in my A/V receiver? I'm french so I'm not sure if all of this makes sense to you
U dont need to do this well said i believe its we need more folks like u on that Tee my amp goes to 11 explanation well done my Da
So I could use some help. I have a Marantz 7011. I have a 5.2.4 setup. My plan was to use the Bi-amp feature to power my fronts, and the same receiver for my center and surround R/L speakers and use a separate amp to power my four Atmos channels. I was not able to find the configuration that would allow me to do this. In the video you have a 9.1 Bi-amp option; my Marantz, doesn't as far as I can tell. So is my only option to Bi-amp the front speakers with a separate?
Question Techno Dad, I can't seem to figure out this bi amp and bi wire stuff, maybe I'm over thinking it, I mean it sounds easy and simple yet somehow I can't come to a concrete answer on it all. Nowadays higher end audio speakers come with 4 posts indicated as HL and LF, if I were to plug one of those posts say the LF into the receiver or amplifier as a regular connection it would mimic the connection as both HF and LF correct? Thanks Techno Dad!
Can i use speaker switch selector to pass thru the Bi-amp?. I'm using YAMAHA RX V581 7.2 Channel to Klipsch speakers.
great video thanks!
Hi TechnoDad, I have a Wharfedale Diamond 9.5 Floor Speakers. It has for terminals, which is the recommended connection, High Frequency or Low Frequency Terminals for Standard Connections. I don't want to Bi-Wire. Thanks!
I have a pair of Klipsch floor standing speakers. They have the ability to buy amp with 4 binding posts. I will definitely try the bi amping. Unfortunately because I don't have a AV receiver with a different channel changed to a bi amp output. I will have to use a surround Channel and set my amp 2 multi stereo get the same effect.
Hi! What AVR do you have?
Im buying a new receiver soon and im using a Klipsch RP-280f surround system(ill probably add two atmos speakers aswell) . Would you recommend to get a receiver with bi-amp capability ?
How do I adjust the settings in my Yamaha TSR-7850 to bi-amp? The wiring in itself is very clear as there are outputs just for that. Thanks!
What did I need to wire my Polk speaker signature s55 to the Sony receiver 5.2 4K ultra?
I recently bought a denon 4400 x and a outlaw 5000 also I am waiting for my Svs ultra tower was wondering if the outlaw have enough power can you help me out
Hi! That outlaw should be more than enough. Do you know the sensitivity of those speakers? How far are you sitting away from the speakers? I made a video about how mush power speakers need: czcams.com/video/53KBKYeJdPs/video.html
I have a 5.1 channel Yamaha RXV385B receiver and a pair of bi-amp able nf160 tower speakers. I noticed that you can select either 2, 3, 4, or 5 speakers in the receiver’s settings. When I selected 4 speaker mode and placed the receiver in "5 channel stereo" mode it sent the same signal to all four speakers so I was wondering if there would be any noticeable benefit of using the fronts and surround channels to bi-amp these speakers? I feel its a bit better sound quality. Please let me know your opinion
Great explanation bro.
Thanks!!
I have 2 amps with only 2 channels each. I think I know what to do from here for more power with my 2way speakers now. thanks
I have a High end Yamaha RX A3080 Definitive D9 Hooked up would I hear any difference bi-amp
hello! first of all thanx very much for the video!!! I have one Q... is the same biwiring using speakers a+b and HF and LF, for example in a yamaha n-r303 and in a monitor audio bronze 2 series?
THANKS!!
Hi! I think that would work.
Hey j just have questions so I bought yahama rx 685 sounds nice really nice but I have to turn it up to volume to 35or 40 equivalent to my Denon receiver AVR x1200w witch was 18 or 22 .is that normal .????
Will this work with my amp, the adcom gfa 7000
Thank you so much for your very informative video....
You're very welcome!
My home theater set up 9.1.6 my receiver denon avrx6500 11.2 channal but i used audio source amp210 for atmos 4celling speakers.for the rest of my klipsch speakers to get better sounding what kind of amplifire i have to buy.thank you
Well my dilemma is like this:
I just bought an expensive sound system with relatively cheap receiver, and my thought was to upgrade that onkyo tx-nr696 signal to the speakers through a rotel rb1080 (2x200W). But since they are hard to find here in sweden I instead came across an rmb-1077 (7x100W rotel amp). And since the thought was to drive my define df-8 fronts with the rotel rb1080 (2x200W). I will be using fronts, back surrounds and center, the sub goes from a pre out. So I have 7x100W channels to drive 5 speakers, which would let me bi-amp the fronts to give the fronts 200W kind of. I know it's not really comparable to actually have a 200W connected to the speaker and let the speaker divide how much the highs and lows need. But will that be worth the while? If I go with the rotel amp, I need to change receiver and the seller of rotel also sells the preamp onkyo pr-sc5509 which was their high-end receiver for like 10 years ago or something. It might lack some features like spotify and such, but it has 4k upscaling compared to the previous mentioned onkyo. I should also mention that the onkyo I have is completely new, so I have the option to send it back if I were to go for the latter decition.
So to sum it up.
Which choice to be made?
1. Keep Onkyo tx-nr696 and wait until i eventually find a rotel 1080 and only drive the fronts via that amp (that onkyo does not have preouts for all the channels, just the front and sub) and the rest via the onkyos outlets which with their false claim should be 175W per channel and onkyo sound. This unit does not have 4k upscaling or any picture options.
vs.
2. Buy Onkyo pr-sc5509 and the rotel rmb-1077 which would give me an older receiver, but I could get signals to all speakers from the famous rotels honest wattage outlets. And in that case I'd be using bi-amp to split 4 channels over the two fronts and thereby let the woofers have 100W and the mid/tweeter have 100W.
Option number 2 would be like 200$ more expensive. (Until I find the rotel 1080, then the option one would be like 500$ more expensive) So in the long run?!
Option 3 would be to just drive my system with onkyo tx-nr696 period and not do all the rotel trouble. But I got what is to be concidered high end speakers now. The dynavoice define df-8 and dc-6 etc...
On the same AV receiver using it only in stereo, what about using your pre amp out on your surround back and connect it to your pre amp in on your front speakers. Will that up the wattage to your speakers?
I have a question. I have klipsch kf28 which needs150w all the rest of my speakers require 90 and 80w. My reciever is a vsxlx302 which is 100w per chanel. Should i biamp to get the extra 50w thats needed and have an extra 50 w for the kf28s?
I went into the different configurations of setting up speakers I did the standard wire after coming off of a buy wire because it was causing me listeners fatigue very unenjoyable experience. Then I did something I’ve never done before which was Bi amp The front and speakers and not only did it alleviate the listeners fatigue that the high frequency was causing my ears I did switch out my speakers by the way but it actually made the soundstage and overall presentation a whole lot best way to put it would be three-dimensional instead of just flat. Has an amazing sound stage and all the voices seem to now exist as if they were on stage in your room or in my room for that matter very awesome experience. The best way to show my opinion of how much the improvement is would have to be the baseline of it being painful or this pleasurable to my ears to this change would be about 45 to 60% of an increase the reason I give that type of number is because obviously based on the listening content how old was recorded and so on all that fun stuff you tell anywhere from a mediocre difference which is still respectable to amazingly unbelievable change which is awesome. Thank you for the videos.
Hello mate , I really like your true answers Regarding bi wire or bi amp , I have Yamaha rx v 1700 , please let me know how could I do bi amp on that and right now I m playing 4 tower speakers on two channel ( using 2 front channel) and j want to hook all of them with my amp , please let me know how I can hook 4 towers on my amp , I know so many questions but please let me know
Thanx
This is a great explanation and explained properly but unfortunately I have 4 wharfedale diamond 220 and 230 speakers so my amp only allows 4 speakers into one input each so I wouldn’t be able to bi amp without it sounding the same cause so many wires in one input but I’ve done it before and did hear a difference
Awesome video!!
Thank you!
I build my own SET amplifiers and I have 3-way speakers. What works for me is I drive two 245 output tubes with one 6sn7 mu-follower and the input impedance of the 245s, the Miller effect of the grid to cathode capacitive reactance is far more that the output impedance of the 6sn7. The two 245s drive the tweeters and mid-ranges separately. For the woofers I let the 245 that drives the mid-range also drive the input interstage transformer through a 100K pot to the grounded grid of a big 833A SET that drives the woofers through a Hammond 1642SE output transformer. The 833A runs at 1000 volts so that according to the tube data curves the grid can be at zero bias ground potential via the secondary of the 5k interstage transformer. The only challenge for this very simple 833A stage is the necessity of connecting power supply filter capacitors in series to handle the 1000 volts and the chokes I use cannot isolate 1000 volts so they have to be mounted in a Plexiglas cage for safety. The cathode heaters of the 833A draw 10 amps at 10 volts of very pure DC which requires a 10 volt 20 amp transformer, a bridge rectifier rated at 50 amps with heat sinks on an aluminum chassis even though it will only carry 10 amps, a 0.1 ohm dropping resistor rated at 100 watts so that it runs cool even though it will only dissipate 10 watts and pre-charged 4.5 farad digital car audio capacitors as filters with a relay cutoff when the system is not running. I have to turn down the volume of the woofers to balance the 833A power to that of the 245 driven mid-range speakers. This modification gave the extra bass that the system was missing when trying to power the woofers with a 245.
You could definitely get more out of this rig by submerging the power supplies in liquid nitrogen...
great video, I have a Denon 6500 receiver, I have 2 702S2 B&w speakers, what is the best way to bi-amp for stereo only to that receiver? thanks!!
Hi! What kind of Atmos setup are you running? 7.2.4? If you have two channels you are not using, you can bi-amp your mains with whatever pair you are not using (surround back, height 2).
Also back in the day. Dual mains (Advents) with two power amps one to left side one for the right pair. We would have some epic listening parties.
Toby Hines wasn't the plan (and I should know having had double large Advents) to wire them in series and drop the impedance to get that kick ass bass? It's been a while but I can remember shaking the windows so hard I thought they would break. Then some prick stole my speakers but I did get them back miraculously enough.
Good video. I have a question. I’m making some DML speakers. Each channel has two panels. One for high frequency and one for low frequency. I’m using a BK Pro 10M preamp and a generic theater amp for stereo. I need separate speaker wires going to each panel (total of 4, two per channel).
What’s the best way to hook this up?
Thanks,
Paul

Hi, I have a ? I have marantz sr7013 avr I also have an old 2 channel amp so if I wanted to biamp my 2 front paradigm studio 60 tower speakers do I just run a single rca cable to my left & right pre out on my avr to the left & right channel of my amp & then just run my speaker wire from the amp to the 2 front upper posts of my speakers? Because when I do that I don't really hear a difference. Thanks!!
