Keep up the good work.
Coolest thing about the E53 AMG?
That straight six engine!
Gorgeous coupe Sweet spot in the AMG engine lineup, perfect for retired senior car enthusiast like me
I happen to own a C238 E400 (same body style, same gen) with the older Bi-turbo V6 with the Adaptive cruise.
Iâm reasonably big and strong but the door weight is sizable and uphill/downhill, my wife struggles a bit with the weight. I would not be surprised if the door weighed 175lbs.
When I got the car the adaptive cruise was set to obey the speed limit (plus 10mph). It would occasionally notice a lower speed limit sign and would inappropriately slow down.
This âfeatureâ can be disabled in the menus while retaining the good parts of adaptive cruise. In traffic at lower speeds, it can fully self-drive if its recognizing the road( there is an indicator thats green when its ok, yellow when its having trouble, off when itâs given up) You need to supervise, but itâs pretty reliable. Even when its disengaged, it can autobrake and/or steer ( if it detects room to steer) via the collision assistance feature, but this will activate the pre-collision system which will hard-tighten the seatbelts, close windows/sunroof, and will do even more if you get to an imminent collision.
I find the lane keep assist to work much better than other cars Iâve used. It does not beep, but provides haptic feedback if you hit lane limits without signaling.
Lastly, the US adaptive headlights are neutered due to outdated DOT regs. These can be recoded to function like the ones explained here. The hardware is exactly the same. This is something I need to do.
The older drivetrain turbo V6 is slower than the E53 but with a mild tune can reach an easy 400+ hp with a lot more torque than stock. The E450 and E43 are mechanically identical ( except exhaust on the e43) and use more boost than the E400 and the conservative aftermarket tunes have similar boost curves.
Mechanically, the E400 seems extremely reliable, I have a well maintained CPO and extended the mb warranty out to 3 years/unlimited miles for about $2,000, but Iâm in excess of 90,000 miles with no issues, nothing leaks, no check engine lights, no control arms, really nothing yet.
Henry, you are so good at this. Concise and useful information delivered in a very pleasant manner. Thank you, sir.
Thanks for the review Henry. You do great as usual!
Got a better idea of what the E53 is like than any other review I've seen, thank you!
The perfect car. Great combination of comfort, performance, technology and design
I always like the way your review cars here, thank you
Reasonable review, however, the E53 is two cars not one and beats any 63 hands down. Firstly itâs furiously fast in any weather, driven properly and will leave the old rear wheel drive cars for dust in any damp conditions. Secondly, the straight six makes it one of the quietest and smoothest coupeâs you will find anywhere, a true limousine âS Classâ quality ride, when in comfort mode. You will soon get tired of the engine noise and road rumble in a 63. Trust me. Mercedes have really hit the mark with this one, the new breed of AMG...two cars in one!
I am a simple guy, I see Henry Catchpole in the thumbnail i skip all other videos for it :))))
4:00 the burmester in the roof is the 3d burmester package which is also available for the e class coupe. You only have the surround burmester package which is the reason you dont have such a thing in the roof
As usual clear and concise
Thanks,for the review!
Such a Classy coupe!
Stunning and powerful!
Imagine if there was an E63 and E63s coupe v8. That would be awesome
Yup. Closest thing to this is the S63 coupe, which btw is a dream car.
They'll never make those as long as the amg gt coupe and sl exist
He's good very good down to earth and love his presentation
Nice review đ
Always a pleasure watching something from you guys! :)
About the Led Matrix dimming road signs and rain, it's a nice piece of tech...but not that new i believe, my 2017 Audi A4 with Led Matrix does it as well :)
Well the E Class has it since it came out in 2016.
Straight from carwow to this
Same. Just watched that Rolls-Royce review.
And me đ
I think the E53 is probably the one youâd rather take to cruise quickly and effortlessly across Europe, knowing itâll still provide some entertainment when going through the Alps. Shame they never put the 63 or 63s lumps into the E coupĂ©.
Spot on!! I have mine for almost the same time, and i agree with you! Not a full V8 AMG but, is not supuse to be!! It is a great all arounder was you Said!! The Doors?! Spot on gain!! đ Cheers from Portugal!
Probably the AMG that got the least amount of attention last year
It's not much faster than the e450
It is not a real AMG model. It is a normal model in the AMG trim with an AMG badge. Mercedes is doing what BMW had started.
@@zohawn4398 Its much faster, we test drove one for two days and my race logic recorded 4 seconds dead to 60, faster than my RS3!
@@geoffbullock8280 I test drive both. The 53 is maybe .2 or .3 seconds faster 0 to 60. Not worth the $30k price increase
@@zohawn4398 The thing is if you buy a few month old examples there is not a lot of difference in price mate.
Fine, Mercedes, I'll make a video after you lend me the AMG for nine months.
Sometimes manufacturer's will loan them a car for a week. However whenever they do these 6month to 1 year long term tests. They usually lease the cars!!!
the most beautiful coupe on the market in my opinion :-)
That E53 is stunning
Great videos as always. Iâm changing from a Cayenne, love the Merc, would you have this or an RS4?
I have the same car and those doors are a nightmare, my least favourite things about the car. I have the multibeam lights but I've never had the confidence to use them. Very accurate review! Keep up the great work Team Carfection!
but isn't that a 2-door coupe problem in general? or are you saying that this is a specific e-class problem that doesn't exist in other competing brands, or even in Mercedes' own lineup?
@@trippplefive coupes versions of sedans always are like this
This kind of highlights the problem with car reviewers and reviewing a car for only a day. When some people first used the touch pads on the steering wheel or the actual car system etc, people complain they don't like it or it isn't this or that or whatever. How can one possibly make a decision on what is "right" after just 1 day when the engineers who design it design it for the owner who will use it every single day for a few years. To every owner, their car is the most simple one to use because they're used to it. Even the most unseemingly unintuitive of interiors. My uncle has a Land Cruiser 200. It's a boat of a thing with buttons that feel like it was put in a paint ball gun and shot onto a blank dashboard and left there. I can't find a thing unless I search yet to him it's easy to use and operate.
The coupe looks the best.
5:49 . It has dim lights automatically. How can we describe this feature ? Brilliant !
Thanks for mentioning that the tech doesnât always work perfectly. Even Mercedes doesnât get it perfect yet.
U make me wanna buy this thing...
Doors; enormous and heavy? That's irrelevant for how little you have to interact with them once you're in the car, but you'll be glad they're enormous and heavy when you get T-boned by some idiot texting behind the wheel. I love Mercedes for what they're all about; Solid as a tank.
My uncle now owns this car. Currently in a voyage throughout scotland
I love This car and I love the convertible
It's nice, but I'll stick with my e63.
If I was doing more miles though it'd be one for myself to consider.
A decent performance car without the 15mpg that I average in my e63 estate.
lol shame
Seems like you're using it properly
Glad Henry confirms my issues with tsr, auto light dimming issues and other half baked ,barely works tech. Honda and amg both suffer the same so clearly not just a budget issue and more of a tech issue.
I wish they made an E500(or E580). The old E500 coupe with the 4.7l V8 sounded a lot better imo.
I agree! I had a chance to drive the W211 E500 and it was glorious!
The V8 and the traditional mercedes look go so well together!
New top gear, 1080p still. Carfection , 4K
Who is making a higher quality product? That tells you right there.
Getting laptimes in an E class? Hell yeah, best regards to the tyres!
Can you reveal what king od lenses do you have in yr glasses? I can see that this is some kind of driver focused ones.
Gotta say Mercedes Benz has up's their game big time. I think they're the leading German manufacturer at the moment in terms of design, tech, and possibly sales. BMW definitely lost a lot of ground and their quality isnt the same. AUDI, I like a lot but they don't bring the same feeling as the other two.
Note, not comparing to Porsche as they're kinda in a different league
If given the choice, would you opt for a used 2015 GTS or a brand new one of these? Used for everyday driving plus the occasional spirited Sunday breakfast drive with no track work at all.
Wish it was mine !!!
Daft question maybe, but what is your long term preferred petrol brand? Have you found any differences in MPG / performance in different ones?
E series coupe is very beautiful. Its only flaw is that it looks so much like S series coupe without being one.
I think it looks better than the S Coupe honestly. Comfort is something different ofc
It looks like the ugly brother of the S.
IMO the best looking coupe in the whole car industry is the BMW 8 series like the M850i or the M8 Competition. I know this is a Mercedes video but just throwing my 2 cents in.
@@tjk9263 Nah i prefer this merc, i like wide cars but the 8 series goes a bit to far in my opinion. Still a great car though.
How is that a flaw?
Interesting point of view after the first 'thrill' has had time to settle down.
Good lord!!! Im honestly not much of a coupe based off a sedan type of guy. They always just look massive and it seems pointless to lose the practicality of having 4 doors. This car however!!!đđđ Its just perfect!!!
Old design of the grill look better than the new ones..
Wish they'd made an E63S Coupe. This E53 version seems lame, looks great however.
Yep e63s coupe would be insane but would take all the buyers from the s63 coupe away.
@@timonxDlol good point
@@timonxDlol didn't realize they dont have a e63 coupe... that's too bad.
I think the market is still there. S63 is supposed to be more of a cruiser vs. The e63 that's more 'driver oriented'
Just look at the sedans
timonxDlol S63 buyers should have gotten an S65 anyways.
@@JJFLD Almost no one will pay like 100k extra for no plus in performance.
Alan Sugar might describe that dash as a "mug's eyeful".
Oh man, and I just go around in my 2001 Ford Explorer haha
(In mint condition btw)
You donât want a AMG v8 as your daily drive the fuel bill would kill you thatâs probably why so many are for sale this is a serious contender for my daily drive đ
I like the old model rear passenger side pillow less Windows
4:29 the 2009 e class had this, is it still a novelty ?
Mercedes cars have always been about the cabin experience for the driver, whereas BMW has been about the handling experience.
I own one e53 coupe, but itâs turbine dead after 10 months and 24k kilometers.((
Did you fix it under warranty?or you paid it on your own?How much did it cost?
Nice car but...
You remind me of a mates dad telling his sons school mates after picking them up about the car , needed to show itâs performance etc as you drove it like you owned a focus.
7:11, sounded very crashy over those bumps
Camera equipment.
My e class coupe plagued with constant creaks and rattles due to poor build quality...loose interior clips everywhere.
@@davids76 It's a real shame. We've had a couple through the dealer now and some have been ok but others have had terrible rattles and creaks. Not good enough for such an expensive car really. Hope you can get yours sorted.
4:35 man you can switch that off.
The blank space for (bi) next to the turbo badge is taunting
Me watching this video: bro just floor it
Nice, but itâs no Rover 800 Vitesse Fastback. Jurassic Park...
AMG E53 or AMG E63 S? Which one is the best value for money?
Not fussed about the car, just came to see Henry....
whats that song in the intro?
I'm only watching this because I was driving a nice merce in a dream and I went the check the back and it had the logo and said e53
Isnât this more of an AMG Line than an actual AMG. Mercedes seem to be putting a little too many of these out there which dilutes the brand.
Modern car test= infotainment 80% all the rest 20%
What about the fuel economy on this?
I think its criminal to not be able touch the screens that are that large! aren't they touch screen in the G-wagon and GLE?
So, an $80,000+ Mercedes and the cruise control doesn't even work... that's progress folks!
Henry is the S class coupe worth the extra money over the E 53
Maybe a used S coupe if you want the size of the S?
Yes. The Amg s coupe is one of the better cars made. Check Harris' video.
Def go cert pre-owned
the only other company i can see Henry Catchpole working for is Apple
Heavy doors? hahahah.. Grow some muscles dude. That car is perfection!
As a guy who likes to do all the driving yourself, don't you find it annoying having to switch all the Mercedes safety systems off everytime you start the car? Just because they are so intrusive and jerk the wheel and apply the brakes too early and so on? I found them very annoying in an A-class even though they make the car more safe for the average driver. Just having to switch them all off through the infotainment was a pain in the ass.
đ€ soo the 70's called, they want their sideburns back bro
Its an AMG but you dont show us a rev hear/closeup or a tunnel sound? Nice review but you have to understand car enthousiasts love that.
i can say that is a well balanced Car, the Burmester is way better then the Bose from Audi. The Sign assitant can be switched off that i have done first. the Multibeem is way better the VW/Audi. In my Touareg i have always the problem with that. Other Car thinks every time i am blending them. yes the Doors are massive and it is a problem to open it for tiny persons like my wife. but hey just be a gentleman. so overall i dont regred that buy. and the engine is brillant. yes it is not so brutal like the e63 or the c63 but that push from 0-60 is very close to that c63..
Living with a car also involves service costs and mpg i guess.
Are they coming with an e63 coupe?
HĂ„kon Vilvang no
Car is perfect just the steering wheel is on the wrong side
Is that matrix headlight system why I'm being blinded by so many late-model Mercedes lately? If so, that tech doesn't work, from my perspective as oncoming traffic...
Couldn't it be that people don't know how to operate it? (just asking because i remember when i first tried the automatic highbeam low beam switching thingy in my e class years ago, i didn't grasp that it only works while the lightswitch is on "auto", if the lightswitch is on "on" the high-low is "manual mode". So i may have bilnded a few people waiting for the system to switch to low beam. Maybe that's also the case for those who blind you)
The system got better its pretty good now. I have it on Auto and noone ever complains. Except the occasional lorry driver. Somehow it doesnt lower the brightness for them sometimes.
"Pit lane limiter " F1 tech always arrives on the road eventually
They must do four door E Coupe
giray altunok CLS
Cars have become laptops
ozmaniac49 hahah those are too expensive
Cabriolet is the best version of this car
I've just recevied an S350 coupe from a customer instead of cash and I must say that it is a bit pointless. Back seats are super comfortable but what type of rich person will do all these things just to reach thr backseats. They are only suitable for kids and kids doesn't need that much space anyway. I don't understand the purpose.
You want S class and you want a coupe. I reckon there si nothing to be misunderstood.
@@omg.itsjohn Indeed there is not. However, it is my opinion. If the backseats are big and comfortable, it must be for adults but why would a rich person do all the process to get to the back and than wait for his/her chauffeur to get out. Don't get me wrong it is an amazing car but it really doesn't suit me.
Hey
Andy Choo hellođđ
Hey
How ya DO n?
Never been this early in my life
Who's responsible for the running cost of the car?
Mercedes offcourse.
They provide the car to reviewers for this kind of long term purpose. It's like leasing a car but with only thing you have to pay for is the fuel. Service, maintenance, insurance is all covered by the company. It's sort of like advertisement for that car by the reviewers.
@Harry Monkfish it's paid but it's actually not, it's kinda both and a bit confusing but let me explain.
Mercedes provide car with insurance, maintenance etc covered and reviewer have to only deal with fuel costs.
For Mercedes it's (the youtubers video) sort of like an add for their car so it's a publicity. But it is not said as paid promotion as in this case the reviewer (carfection) gets to tell their own honest opinion about the car both good and bad.
If it is paid promotion then they (reviewer) can't tell bad aspects but only positives and have to specify that it is infact paid promotion.
@Harry Monkfish yeah it sure is cheap advertising compared to traditional methods and yes one can never trust anyone on internet about any topic. It is dishonest as the company told you to tell good things about their product but becau it's carfection and it's Henry ai sort of trust him even though I know it's not fully the truth.
@The Talentless Mr. Kipling That's interesting I didn't know Mercedes invested money in carwow. I carwow and most things on youtube as entertainment not impartial information providers. I wouldn't base my decision on buying a new car on anything a car program says.
No exhaust note?
You may aswell hadâve just done a video with a 220DâŠ
Did he just complain about heavy doors on an expensive car? lol
Rayaan Shaikh especially the fact that itâs a coupe. Luxury coupes have long and heavier doors in general lol
Yeah!! lol
For me the huge digital tv dash is fugly much like the early ipad+chewing gum combo early merc screens had.
You can do a good digital dash e.g. Audi but also Ford or even Opel.
Completely ruins the interior for me.
I really hate the ergonomics of current Mercs. They and the design of all the on-screen menus and elements ruin these cars for me. Interior materials also leave a lot to be desired.
i support that. My favorite in ergonomics is the W212 system with the push pull turn knob and the up-down-left-right arrow buttons on the steering wheel. (also featured in the other Mercedes in that time period like the W204 C-class) No touch thingy in them, and the manu structure was more intuitive than in newer models to my taste. (And i like the real dials better than the all-screen stuff)
nirfz right on the money in all the points across.
I still say
If you can't afford the 63 take the 53
Shawn Paradox: But would that be âyourâ money or metaphorically speaking money? It makes a huge difference.
And in my honest opinion, you're still wrong. You're talking about 2 very different cars, i think that's a pretty, pretty cheap answer.
10:30 mins and we didnt get your real world MPG?
How can you review a coupe car without actually sitting at the back and showing how easy it is to sit at the back âŠ
People actually drive AMG's without an exhaust mod/cat delete? lol
There are places on this planet where you either do that or don't drive it anymore.
nirfz yes I know. Itâs kinda of a joke lol
Most important dude where is the sound????
