This game honestly needed a remake. Very underrated imo, it's a 2D Mario centered around quirky puzzle solving and fancy maneuvers. Can't wait to play it.

@@NietoriThere was an E-reader feature of this game with new levels, however, due been an special promotion only 5 levels was offered of 1000 card pack copies was produced.
There's an total of 12 levels for those.

I never knew I wanted a remake of this game so bad. It looks very faithful.
I mean gameplay wise, yes, but they changed almost all of the visuals. Individual enemies and characters are pretty much the only things that remain, everything else from the environment to hazards look completely different.
@@hypotheticaltapeworm those changes do not make it unfaithful, considering its still a shot-for-shot remake.

@@hypotheticaltapeworm that's because it's not just a simple up-res: they rebuilt the game from the bottom up. They are remaking all of the assets anyways. But, it's still shot-by-shot remade: it's essentially the same game, with updated designs and graphics. It's pretty darn faithful.
@@harleyludy6596 Not visually is all I'm saying. They brought the levels and mechanics back, but the visual direction is that of another game entirely. This isn't like Ocarina of Time 3D, Link's Awakening (2019), or Paper Mario TTYD (2024) where the visuals adhere to the original, just taking advantage of superior hardware, this is like Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland, where the visuals are those those of another game entirely.
The game is faithful in recreating the gameplay, but not the visuals. Something can have remade visual assets without being an "up-res". You mean to tell me the completely changed level geometry, colors, and such are the function of it being something other than an up-res? Hello? All I'm saying is that the visuals aren't faithful, which isn't a complaint, it's just true. Look at the comparison, they reimagined everything about how the game looks. Almost everything has a new design and/or is a different color.
From shots to actual footage with the cutscenes , man where did the years go ?
You know that technology's come far when even the in-game footage in the remake looks better than the pre-rendered stuff in the original.

I wished they could’ve used the old animation where Mario throws the glass orb toward the screen… I’ll also miss Grant Kirkhope’s DK voice samples.
Grant Kirkhope is the best DK voice in my opinion I guess they ended up using their own DK sounds unfortunately

The fact they could've just put it on NSO but instead made a whole remake of it is actually a win

I would still prefer remake of donkey kong from original gameboy. That game was a lot more epic imo with same gameplay. The cutscenes where DK was running away with pauline and mario chasing him were awesome even though it was with simple gameboy graphics. Would look epic with modern graphics.

I would absolutely love if they bring back DK Jr while keeping the modern DK as well. But how will "fans" react to it since they haven't announced a new DKC game?
Let’s be honest, returning to this game makes a whole lot more sense then the last few games in the series.

Ya know, I've only ever known about the sequel on the DS with the wind-up Marios but had never seen the gameplay of the GBA original. It looks like a continuation of DK 94' on the GB which I played and like, so I'm definitely intetested.
I'm hopping the scrappted level editor for the original, been added from this game.
It's like original meets New Supe.
To me, it looks like the Super Mario 3D World style in Super Mario Maker 2.
@@SaltyToad00 I do see that because of the depth and the 3D assets but I felt Mario himself had closer to New Supe proportions and I felt that would have become a long winded comment haha
It's reusing assets directly from the 3d world theme but I heard people say it seems to be the Mario party superstars model for Mario of all models.
@@ImmortalAbsol Levels in the NSMB series are made out of flat 2D tiles. This remake uses fully 3D modeled levels.

The red, blue and yellow buttons looked a lot better in the original.

Also the switches in the original resembled more like p switches

@@PikaPhantom_ I mean yeah there's new stuff too but can't deny the amount of reuse. Especially with the walls and some of the ground. It's not a bad thing and it's pretty common for games to reuse stuff but usually they hide it better.
I played this game my senior year of hs back In 2004. I have memories of playing it during third period, total senioritis. Insane how time flies by.

On top of getting a remake of a game I never got to try, Mario RPG, they’re also remaking two of my favourite games ever, this and TTYD.

Probably will be, seems they kept the original lines stored somewhere, in HQ. You can hear one of them at least in the trailer.
This is actually one of my favorite 2D Platform/Puzzle Mario Games, a very underated Genre for a Mario game, i am very happy its getting remade for the Switch.

Mario actually grew taller in the remake. He was so short and stubby with a huge head in the original cutscenes!

Oh, wow. I had been assuming this was a remake of Donkey Kong from the GBC. I don't think I played the GBA version, which makes it more likely I'll pick this up on Switch.
Not for $50 though, LOL. This should be a $20 download. $30 with the Nintendo 1st party tax. Is there seriously more value here than Metroid Print Remastered? No, no there isn't.

Yeah i know a lot of DK voice was re-used from DK64 but they still re-using charles martinet voices

Even ghough this isn't what I had in mind for another Donkey Kong but it does look fun though.
Imo old games with good pixelart are timeless, heck the original Mario vs DK still looks good but the game artstyle went with a pseudo-3D look and those types of games tend to age more visually so this remake is really a great improvement.
Always thought the original MvsDK game was ugly. Prolly one of the reasons I never played it.

Its more existed the cutscenes is going to be full animated and not be one frame at the time like the GBA verision.

Cutscenes aside, I must admit the gameplay animations are a bit stiff, probably because they try to imitate the GBA ones, but I would have opted for a fluider option.

The GBA speaker was pretty low quality compared to whatever device you're using to watch this video, so the compressed audio wasn't as noticeable.
