what a master class innings so pleasing to watch every stroke ! Just thinking how many fours could have went if the outfield is quick like the modern game..... Such versatile players >3
It was a very low intensity innings as they were chasing a paltry 179. Never any pressure, and he was able to take a lazy 104 balls to reach 76, which is nearly 20% lower than his career strike rate. This innings would rank very low down on any list from Richards in either form of the game.
Vic Richards certainly is one of the greatest batsmen cricket has ever seen. Well done to him for punishing any bowler who tried to sledge him. In one case, after he had missed several balls, the bowler informed him “It is red, round and weighs about 5 ounces, in case you were wondering”. The next ball Vic Richards hit for 6, going so high that it went over the stadium and into a river. He then told the bowler “You know exactly what it looks like, now go and find it”. The perfect response to a sledge! I look forward to seeing the Viv Richards museum when I visit Antigua in March next year.

pitches uncovered, boundaries not brought in and more importantly against a ball which had a much pronounced seam. The disconcerting bounce and swing of the those balls were much more vicious than the ones we have today, the pads were heavier and the protective equipment’s were very basic to say the least. Once again an innings where Viv Richards' flawless offside play and beautiful legside pull shot is visible. Slight lack in legside flick shot where his body stays planted to offside, does not pivot enough to leg, but lets his hand follow the ball.
