This is coming from someone who hated octopath 1 and I have 100 hours in the sequel. Btw all 8 characters do fight in the finally. And it’s a proper final not a glorified side quest
I agree that the writing in the sequel has improved very substantially. The environmental music is more interesting as well. I argue that virtually all the battle music in the original is better in some capacity, but generally there's more melodic development, more clarity, more contrast. OT2 music is far more muddled by comparison. More layers isn't necessarily better, if they don't work together.
