Sachin Tendulkar is not the greatest batsman of all time. You can't just ignore the feats of Don Bradman like it never happened. He averaged 99.94 runs in 52 test matches and 95.14 in 238 first class matches. Nobody ever came close to him. Not back then and not in the modern era.

Both England and Australia were severely weakened by the rebel cricket tours to South Africa and the resultant 4 year bans. Australia had a poor test team during the West Indies reign. Maybe the weakest in its entire history. India and Sri Lanka weren't good either in the 80's. Pakistan was okay, but not great. South Africa weren't even admitted back into test cricket until 1992. Sure, the Windies dominated, but it was a low period for test cricket.
Australia lost a couple of close, hard-fought test series in India in the late 90's & early 2000's. Some brilliant cricket. Those were EXCELLENT Indian teams playing at the top of their game... FAR superior to the mediocre Indian teams who were beaten by the West Indies in the 80's. (Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman, Sidhu, Ganguly, Kumble, Harbajan, Srinath...)
Sri Lanka had it's strongest ever test lineup in that same time period. (Ranatunga, Aravinda de Silva, Jayasuriya, Jayawardene, Kaluwitharana, Sangakkara, Chaminda Vaas and of course Muralitharan..)
The 80's West Indies batters faced Imran Khan (and Sarfraz), but they never faced a Pakistani bowling tandem like Wasim Akram & Waqar Younis... Nor the express pace of Shoaib Akhtar.
Australia also beat some very strong, well-balanced South African teams during their reign. Some fantastic cricket from both teams but it was the Aussies who always came out on top. Who did the Windies beat during the 80's who could compare to those South Africans?
Name one other really strong test team from the 1980's? There weren't any...
I think the greatness of those dominant West Indies teams has become a little bit mythological. They were carried by a supreme fast bowling attack which overwhelmed the mediocre batting line-ups of the 80's with relentless short-pitched deliveries. They had 4 or 5 great fast bowlers; but no good spinners to speak of... Murray and Dujon were good wicket keepers, but not as good as Healy or Gilly... They had great opening bat combo in Greenidge and Haynes; and one the all-time greats, Viv Richards batting at no.3. Then, to a lesser extent, Richie Richardson and Clive Lloyd who were very good, but not great. IMO, the Aussies had the better balanced team with greater talent in their lineup from top to bottom.
I also think from an aesthetic standpoint, the great Australian teams played a far more entertaining brand of cricket than the great West Indies teams from the 80's... They scored insanely heavily.. 300 runs per day. Hayden & Langer dominating (better than Greenidge & Haynes)... Ricky Ponting and the Waugh twins piling on the runs in quick time. Gilchrist smashing 4's and 6's. That was an awesome batting lineup. Better than West Indies.
I preferred to watch the Aussies bowling too.. The Windies had great fast bowlers, but it was boring to watch: incredibly slow over rates (60 overs per day) and one short-pitched ball after another. Tedious. They were killing the game. The ICC had to change the rules because of them. 2 bouncers per over and heavy fines for slow over rates. I much preferred to watch Warnie cast his magic spell over batsmen and see McGrath, Lee, Gillespie, attacking the off stump from the other end. It was better cricket. The only reason anyone would argue otherwise is because they hated the Australian cricket team and they were jealous of them winning everything.
I read above that everyone hated the Aussies because they were arrogant and snobbish... But that's just an outsider's perspective. People make superficial judgments from afar. No doubt some of the Aussie players had self-confidence bordering on arrogance just like many other great sportsmen. Yes, they had an image problem. People didn't like their aggressive way of playing cricket. They were tough competitors. They could be abrasive and cocky on the field, but they were nice guys off it. Certainly no more arrogant and snobby than the cricketing "royalty" from India and Pakistan. I've seen interviews with cricketers from the subcontinent who were laughably conceited, acting like they were princes or Hollywood movie stars. The Aussie cricketers were far more down to earth.
The great West Indies teams were not much different either. They just played in an era before the internet when nobody cared about personality of cricketers. Viv Richards, Gordon Greenidge and Curtly Ambrose were super arrogant, unpleasant and snobby. People didn't care about that. They just enjoyed watching the cricket. Back then, people didn't have things like CZcams and Twitter to express their babyish opinions.
Tendulkar one of the best batsman ever and yet he remained humbled. Can't recall seeing him losing his mind Also it was heartening to see crowd applauding all the boundaries of Tendulkar. Imagine, foreign batsmen hitting these boundaries in India. Crowd will go dead silent.
That's because Indians are everywhere but not all countries' citizens are in India. Hence we see support for India in other countries but minimal cheering for other countries when playing in India.
Most of those would be Indians ..

Tendulkar is one of the best ever all-round batsman! But the best ever Test batsman by a mile is Bradman - being English it pains me to admit that!! If they had ODI and T20 cricket in Bradman's day, I think he would have been amazing in those formats too as he had an incredible eye for the ball. But one thing we know is that he is the best of the best!
