  • This truck broke down for the customer 6 months ago and it was taken to another shop and they replaced the high pressure oil pump in this engine and it still won't start for them. They towed it to our shop and requested that we fix it.

Out of respect for the shop I don’t want to give that out. Some people like to use that to harass them and he doesn’t deserve it. He just isn’t very comfortable working on diesels.

I havent done much work on 6.0 powerstrokes but would priming the system through the ICP sensor hole before initial start up save some years of wear and tear on the starter?

its a 6.0, the starter is gonna have more miles than the engine regardless

the only way of priming is just by cranking on it, the starter spins, low pressure oil pump then supplies the hpop base oil pressure then the hpop creates the necessary pressure to fire the injectors, if that helps

The Ford procedure is to crank in 20 second intervals until it builds pressure. I have never attempted to fill the rails with oil, however with the design of it, it’s hard to get the air to remove other than just cranking it and pushing it through the injectors.
