If you were an 80’s or 90’s kid, chances are you have some old VHS tapes lying around. And I’d be willing to bet there are some clam-shell Disney movies in the box in the closet that you haven’t gone through in years. I had heard years ago of certain versions of classic Disney movies selling for crazy amounts of money but didn’t really look into it. As part of my CZcams journey, I decided I would do a video on the top selling VHS tapes . When I started researching I was surprised to see that there were a ton of Disney movies ‘selling’ for $10,000 or more. I put ‘selling’ in quotation marks because after doing just a bit of digging, those sales didn’t seem legit. I'll dive into why. And then I'll go through the top 15 seemingly legit VHS sales on Ebay in the last few months. I will tell you the top genres for VHS in the last few months are: Kids (Disney), wrestling, and horror.

I have a black diamond Alice in Wonderland New and Sealed. Been listed for $15 for a year and a half. Disney movies are not worth anything. Seriously.
Be patient and hold. The price will go up when they make a new movie of Alice In wonderland or you sell it to a fan of it
It's all relative. You buy a vhs for a nickel from Goodwill and sell it for $3-$5, solid profit margins. Nice way to make some extra cash every month. You won't get rich doing it but you can make something.
Sunday White Rabbit and Justininthelou, The ONLY WAY these VHS Tapes Sell for SOOOO HIGH is because they are Professionally Graded and Inspected by True Professionals. I bought an Original SEALED, NEVER OPENED Black Diamond Disney's FANTASIA. I then for fun thought I should pay a little extra to a Professional Grading Company to inspect and grade it to see what they would ask me for it on the spot. I kid you NOT, they Offerred me $15,000 CASH Money in hand right on the spot. ..... Of course, I accepted That Offer and this was just a few years ago. I see Professionally Graded and Inspected VHS Tapes selling for a Huge Nice amount of money to going up to, believe it or not, 6 FIGURES depending on the VHS tapes condition, Rarity, Rarity Fan Attraction, If there's a Rarity on the Name of the vhs tapes maybe cult following, etc.

It seems like everything comes around at some point. I've purchased VHS tapes at Goodwill for a dime and sold them for $3-$5. Not a ton of money, but the profit is amazing if you can scale.

We have a thrift store that will let you fill up a brown paper grocery bag of any VHS for 1 dollar. You can get over 40 VHS in 1 bag. All DISNEY or you can mix em up.
Oh wow! That's a great deal. Even if you can sell them for a dollar a piece on Ebay, that's huge profit.
The black diamond Disney tapes might be more about payment for nefarious purposes than market manipulation.

Common sense should tell anyone that Goodwill is not going to have 10 copies of a VHS that shows on ebay sold comps for thousands of dollars

Thanks for the info. As with so many, I never knew old videos had any value. About that "Cars" video, especially the two sales and how you thought it was shady. If a collector snatched up six copies of it when they were released, maybe he put three out at $3,500 and they sold so quickly, that he doubled the price for the second three...? I could see that happening.

All of the disney vhs (excluding cars) are bogus sales, they're not real. I have the same beauty and the beast listed sealed for $10 and hasn't sold

Yeah all the thrift stores in my area have TONS of VHS tapes and a lot of them are these supposedly “worth money” ones… funny thing is, that nobody ever buys them. They sit there on the shelves collecting dust.
Why? Because it isn’t true.
Some VHS tapes are worth $ but that’s when they are sealed and 1st editions.
This Black Diamond Disney thing, was just a sham; it was to make everyone think they were rare, to try and boost the market.
Trust me, if these were worth it, they’d be hard to find!
I find that a friend of mine does really well selling his Wrestling movies. I never find any of those around myself usually. For Disney stuff I don't seem to get much for them .. but i've not found any sealed ones yet. When it comes to horror it's the B-movie types and rarer and obscure ones that seem to do really well ... but they are usually hard to find too. The popular movies that had many sequels that are harder to find like Halloween are the exception on that.

#9 if you look close says was relisted by seller after this ended so fishy. Disney other than cars and some very rare are b.s. The odd selling price can happen when seller does bulk percentage discounts on prices ending in $.99. Example: 20% off 10.99 is 8.79. Betamax was b4 vhs and needs a special machine. Hope this helps.
Watermark is on the wrapping, like "WB", "MGM" and are all over the wrap. The sticker is called a "hype" sticker, or advert, or promo sticker.

Also, I closed my eBay account I had for 3 yrs. due to a very unfair review and opened a new one a couple of months ago.. should I wait sometime before I list my tapes? Thanks for the words and the sub G! My advice would be to go ahead and list them. Can't hurt. And to get a real look at the value, I would filter the listings by sold and search for the VHS that you have. From there you will get a much clearer picture of how much they are going for. And you can see if they are selling more with Buy It Now or with auction. For auction sales, pay attention to how long they were in auction and how many bidders they had. The more bidders, the more desirable the VHS. A lot of these 'sales' in the video are more than likely fraud of some sort and not a good gauge as to actual value. I go into that more in a couple other similar videos I created. This was the first one I made like this so I was still learning myself.

None of those Disney movies are legit sales. It’s all money laundering. They aren’t trying to set market value. I have several Disney black diamond that are still sealed and they have been listed on eBay as Buy it Now for $15-20 and they haven’t sold in the 5 months they’ve been listed. I usually end up lowering the price of accept offers in the $8-10 range.

eBay should not be used as a reference to determine a value for an exhibit, as this platform can be used by anyone to present things as more valuable than they actually are.

I've never had much luck slinging vhs tapes.
Some people reseal tapes and pass off as new unopened/ unplayed.
even laserdisk could be remade if we want to. vhs beta would self destruct in some years. we have to record to vhs to get quality back. harry potter vhs are now deadly analoge.

Game sellers do the same thing by making a fake market value for games. They would drive up with game prices with these bits and PriceCharting uses these sold as references for the value of the games. I guess they are doing it for these Disney VHS as well.
I'm from Alaska I have no idea how I would get VHS tapes sent down to the lower 48 I have lots of Disney movies even the black diamond majority of the tapes are not sealed so thanks for the video I could mail tape's down to the lower 48 but what about getting paid I would need to get paid 1,st before mailing any VHS 📼 tape/tapes I'm not a scammer I'm sure not going to scam no one anymore I don't play games thanks any free advice or info of people who buy VHS tapes John

Potentially. I would look at the one's you have and do a search of the sold listings on Ebay to see what the average sale price is going for to get a realistic price. Or, you could shoot for the moon and just post them for the high end and see if you get a sale.
No it’s not. Last year, I sold over 500 vhs and I’m lucky if I get $10 for the black diamond Disney. They usually sit for months after they have been listed with little interest.

Betamax movies did not have better resolution than VHS movies. People have forgotten that Betamax effectively killed the standard play equivalent for their line of VCRs in 1979. The standard recording speed and standard quality for home videos was the beta. 2 recording speed. It wasn’t quite as bad as VHS long play but wasn’t quite as good as VHS standard play (the speed pre recorded home video used for VHS).

I would check Ebay's sold listings for ones that are in similar condition. Look at a few of them to kind of get a good gauge on what they would reasonably sell for.

I bought all the Disney movies when I had my son, he never liked them. I have the set unopened, I even got the recalled copy of The Little Mermaid. I just wish they was worth anything. All of mine are black diamonds but I have never thought to do anything with them....just waiting on grandbabies. Son is 23 but don't ever want kids but I do have a spouled grandcat. Oh Well

The Black diamond Disney movies sell for less than five dollars on eBay and near mint condition. Almost every single one. Anything above $20 is likely fraudulent and people should stop posting it.

Original releases of iconic sf or horror is understandable - esp if sealed. But mass produced Disney is a total scam.
Also many people today who didn't grow up in the VHS rental era won't know that rental store video tapes were far better quality prints and tape stock than the sell-thru versions. Hence they are more desirable and more valuable.

Those Disney sales are not legit. There are literally hundreds of used black diamond copies available for next to nothing, why would a buyer ignore them all, just to turn around and spend thousands on another used copy that is no different? I love how the seller is asking $4300 and is still greedy enough to ask for that $9 shipping fee, lol. Horror & wrestling ARE big sellers in VHS format. But Disney black diamond versions are not pulling in anywhere near those prices.

None of those "Black Diamond" sales are legit. The only Disney movie in this list that's actually valuable on VHS is "Cars", because it was a very limited release, only obtainable through the Disney Movie Club. The Black Diamond thing is a complete myth.

Search for your vhs on ebay. Filter to the sold listings. And then look at a few that have sold to get an average price.

I am literally in tears right now, my life took a left turn during covid and I am currently homeless, as i watched this video i sadly remembered i had almost all those exact videos except the Aphrodite one, i had over 10000 vhs at one point, but someone in my family whos had a drug addiction sold all my vhs years ago, damn thats a tough vid to watch,
So sorry to hear about your current situation. Looking back instead of forward, no good. If it helps, most of this video is untrue. Look at the sold listings, not so me pie in the sky price someone is asking. There are a dozen or so VHS that go for crazy money like Halloween new and sealed, but most used tapes go for around $10 with free shipping.

They're not worth anything. Those eBay listings are fakes and /or money laundering schemes. "Beauty and the Beast" is worth about $5-$10. Don't beat yourself up over something that isn't real!
