Uncletaco supreme that's because they see the stuff sell at auctions and there is a misconception that everything bought at auctions is cheaper than if it were bought for a fixed price so they add a couple extra hundred dollars

Yup! I see people post the beanie baby Valentino with 13 errors for around $250 and cite that they go for 30k on eBay... But when you go to the listing search results and filter them by Sold Items, the highest price ever paid for one is only $150 most sold for under $25

An item is actually only worth what a person is really willing to pay for it.
Even if the item has an ACTUAL collector's price listed on an official website, it"s only gonna be worth what others are willing to pay.
I had to explain this once to an ex after the whole Beanie Baby craze died down and everyone was unloading their collection at rock bottom, garage sale prices. He thought Cash Cow and saw dollar signs. I saw a sucker.

Things that can make u rich in March 2020:
    Hand sanitizer
    Clorox wipes
    Toilet paper
Edit: holy SHI- thats a lot of likes
Edit edit: yeast is rarer, I went to like 3 grocery stores and yeast was at none. One of the workers said they’ve seen yeast less than toilet paper. Yeast is rare.

When I was in school, the geek of the class spent all night queuing in London to get a Harry Potter book. Oh how the class laughed!! His nickname became 'Book-ie O'Hare' (His last name was O'Hare). Anyway I saw him about 7 years ago in a bar and asked him about his Harry Potter first edition book.
    His reply:
'I put it up for auction a few years ago and got 29k for it. Me and my wife used the money to put a deposit on our first home'.

I'm standing in the queue of a McDonald's in south London and a homeless man walks in and offers the mother and daughter in front of me an old copy of a Harry Potter book, he didn't even ask for money. She refuses in the rudest way embarrassing the poor man so I offer to take it and give him some change. He says "that's the problem with people, they judge books by their covers (referring to himself) and never want to read anything." Turns out it was an early addition and could have some value in the future 😊

We bought 2 things that go with Minecraft Earth last Christmas. Since they decided they'd shut down the app this year, I've decided to keep the 2 items, still in their packaging, as collection pieces, since only so many got sold, and those who bought any were told they could be refunded by giving back what they bought. So I already know in the future these might be worth more than they were at Target, and they weren't exactly that cheap as a toy for an mobile AR app.
Oh, the old classic movies on VHS are valuable too and my dad and step mom had 2 totes full of vhs tapes. My jaw dropped! I'm hoping we can get one of those vhs to dvd things, so we can more easily watch the movies. Soooo many classics were in those totes. It brought joy cuz all of the ones I had years ago got stolen from our storage. Some aren't easily replacable cuz I had recorded (tv with built in vhs player) Steve Irwin's funeral. That was a vhs tape I wanted to keep for as long as possible and put on dvd.
And I keep certain valuable things as a last resort kinda thing. I roughly know the worth of the items, they'd help put a roof back over us for about 2 months, would be longer if rent prices would stop increasing since folks job incomes aren't!

  • @christophermichael.w.7577

I've always been very fascinated by the idea of VALUE and what people consider valuable.I saw that same exact Harry Potter book being given away at a church last summer and I didn't take it,but I don't beat myself up over crap like that anymore.

Saw an OXFAM shop and in I whent , going through the jackets I noticed a black full lenth leather PARKA type overcoat with a hood and huge pockets , when I looked it said £50 ,a lot in a secondhand shop ! I put it down and walked off to go back to get the car , as soon as I sat in the car something inside said go and buy that coat so I drove the car back into town and walked in and paid £50 .....Got home and put it on , stunning looking coat ! Opened it up and inside was a POLO Purple label , I Emailed Ralph Lorren that day and they replied the next day , it was a genuine coat and valued at £28,000 ........I still have it now 10 years later ! ....KEEP LOOKING IN THOSE SHOPS PEOPLE !

Back in the late 70s, I'd go up to the local links (golf courses on the coast, in my case they were full of gorse bushes) and scramble under the bushes and take my haul of lost balls to the course's shop. The more worn (but still useable for practice) ones got me 6p each (not today's equivalent, but what I got then; around 9-10¢ I guess. Pretty close) and the newer ones got at least twice that. Doesn't sound like much for a few hours' work, but as a kid, earning about a quid on a Saturday went a long way towards buying what I wanted! It was good exercise, too :)

I used to buy stuff at garage sales and thrift stores to resell on Ebay. I bought a Case XX grapefruit knife for .25 cents at a thrift store. I sold it for $160 dollars. It was the original knife used to make Freddie Kruger's glove and "Fred Heads" will pay handsomely to get enough to make an original glove like Freddy's. At one thrift store I was interested in a set of chess pieces. I play chess and I knew it was a premium set. But, two of the pieces were missing. But, the set was only $1.00 so I bought it. I sold the wooden box they were in for $50. It was a nice hardwood box with dovetail corners and the maker's name branded on it. Then I sold the individual pieces on Ebay for between $5.00 to $25.00 dollars each, depending on which piece it was. Pawns were $5.00 dollars and the King or Queen fetched $25.00 each. I've bought "Milkglass" pieces at yard sales that sold for a dollar and sold them for $10 dollars or more. I would deal in things that I personally knew about, but I researched other things as I found them. I passed on a deal for a Remington ax at a yard sale because I had never heard of one. After getting home I researched it and found it was worth a lot more than the $2.00 the guy was selling it for (it had a broken handle). I rushed back, but someone had already bought it. Win a few, lose a few. Good luck finding your own "treasures."
