- Asus Zephyrus G15 vs Lenovo Legion 5 Pro. TDP isn't everything. Here we are again, this time the shorter version of my 45 minute review video on these two super-popular RTX 3070 laptops. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND with this video (which dives into my personal preferences) I'm talking about the Legion 5 Pro IN COMPARISON TO THE G15, not just on it's own. I KNOW IT SOUNDS LIKE I HATE THE LEGION 5 PRO. Trust me, it's a great laptop though, I don't hate it. On its own, it's awesome. I wouldn't regret purchasing it if I didn't have the G15 first. But I have preferences, I have opinions. I've extensively tested and used both of these machines and these are just my personal thoughts on them. Obviously my performance benchmarks, speaker tests, fan noise tests, and thermal tests are backed by data though so you can decide which is better there.

I know I’m a bit hard on the Legion here (it’s still an awesome laptop!) but keep in mind y’all that the title of the video is “Why I’m Returning The Legion 5 Pro”. A lot of these things are just my preference and you might think completely opposite to me, and that’s okay. This video comes from the perspective of me as a G15 owner who was expecting to be blown away by the performance of the L5P based on the insane amount of hype surrounding it. I have my preferences and to me it was a bit underwhelming for the loss of premium features and portability. I prefer the G15 after testing both so I’m keeping it. These are all just my observations after spending weeks using both laptops. Now stop hating, lol.
But it izzzzz! dude..soldered vs slower timings ram....if it was vice versa you would change your narrative. Come on dude soldered RAM!!??
@@AliXalted I literally say in the video that the 16gb soldered ram doesn’t bother me. I rendered a 45 minute video (with lots of effects and layers) in less than 5 minutes with the included 16gb of ram. There is no reason to need more than that, and games are obviously running just fine too.
So yes, I would take soldered ram over having to spend an extra $100-$200 to replace my laptop’s slow stock ram.
@@JoshCravesTech yeah, but if something happens with the soldered ram...well then your out of luck...just hope your warranty will last if something would happen.
@@AliXalted while the odds are slim, that’s a fair point. Never had a stick of ram go bad for me, but you never know
@Josh Cravey Had you ignored the part where you measure G15 noise farther from laptop?
Calling you out of bullshit is not hating.
at my location zephyrus g15 costs 2100 usd with rtx 3060 and legion 5 pro costs 1800 usd with rtx 3060. The choice was obvious and i went for the 5 pro. Pretty happy with the purchase.
Can you confirm if it can be upgraded upto 64GB of RAM and 2TB SSD
@@Sandeepan you can
Why is that? My zephyrus g15 with a 3070 only cost 1900 from best buy
@@GyudeJohnson we have got like 26% import taxes on electronics products here in india 😔😔

Man, I can't stress enough how helpful videos like these are. I especially like that you're touching on things that seemingly nobody talks about, but are really important when you're actually planning on buying and keeping the device.
Thank you! You get it. A lot of people just think more fps = better, but when you’re using a laptop daily for things other than just gaming then that argument falls apart really fast.
Thanks for a more realistic comparison pointing out the differences in resolution as this is most of the time ignored by other content creators. It makes a massive difference to the individual if they care for resolution or frames and therefore I like how you give pros and cons. Screens cannot be compared by any single measure. Overall great indepth review for your quick version
Thank you!! Truly appreciate it
I'm not so knowledgeable about all this but wouldn't the equivalent be 480p on a 720p device?
Lenovo is for very serious professionals asus is for sensitive kids
@@BlingJ. LMAO, I kinda agree because ROG is only for rich kids. But this review is very true because the fan sound on Legion 5 pro(even for the 7 gen) is super annoying, the speaker was annoying also (it's not bad but not normal), and QC is bad because my keyboard backlight doesn't work. But the price was amazing + the performance surpassed the G15 which was more expensive and that's a good deal for the full-time editor. But can't lie to the Screen that the g15 has more good. Legion 5 Pro is the beast tho.
I really appreciate the review of things like the actual feel and performance of the machines. I can get the specs online. This was very helful!
Exactly, I’m always more concerned with how the machine really is between gaming and just regular use. To me that’s the point of a laptop over desktop anyway. Thanks for watching!
I'm keeping my L5P because it was few hundred cheaper in EU (yeah, Asus prices are pretty high here). Also I need the webcam and don't really mind the laptop it being a bit bulky. Also I use the laptop screen when gaming so the mux switch is pretty essential. Also I just upgraded my RAM to 32GB with higher better while being full speed dual channel, can't do that on the Asus.
Nice! Yeah for the right price it’s still an amazing machine. Seems like it definitely fits your needs
@@JoshCravesTech Hello. I'm a business owner and need to be able to edit and store a lot of video on a machine. I also do website design so it needs to be lightning fast because doing live editing can slow things way down when dragging and dropping widgets. I also want to be able to game on it now and then with my nephews. Being a woman using it predominantly for business (editing, video, design) would I notice much of the difference in technicalities that you're talking about here in the comments with the other gentlemen? I'd become attached to the idea of a Legion 5 Pro, but I am very confused. Can't find it easily, and feel forced into the Legion 7. And a young man at the Office Store actually told me that ASUS are garbage "starter" computers. I presume that's maybe because that's what his store sold, and that there's much better models out there (and to be fair, he was a young kid.) Do you have any recommendations for me? I need Max memory and speed with excellent wifi and all of these models are really confusing. Thank you in advance if you can offer any assistance.
@@doppelrealestate For you, you couldn’t go wrong with either one honestly. I would recommend the G15 because I think the Legion would be overkill for you. Too bulky and heavy for your needs. G15 will absolutely shred in web design, maybe even better than the Legion because of the faster CPU. Also yes that guy was very wrong about Asus. The cheap, old laptops they made, sure, not the greatest. But this is a premium machine, this isn’t your average laptop.
Go for G15 if:
- You plan to travel around frequently with it because of lighter build and smaller charger
- You value a good keyboard, trackpad, and speakers
- You value color accuracy
- You value having silent fans when needed
Go with Legion if:
- You value an extra 5% of GPU performance without hooking up to an external screen (only noticeable in gaming, not web design)
- You plan to use 64gb of ram
- You need that extra inch of height on the screen
- You plan to use it in outside areas to use that extra brightness
- You keep it in one spot most of the time so all the cables can be routed to the back and you never have to move that giant charging brick (lol)
- You need a built-in webcam
Also the Legion 7 is really cool too. I’m testing a 7i and it’s better than the 5 Pro for gaming and the quality of the build, but it is a very loud machine. Fans are almost always running audibly even in quiet mode. And battery life is not good.
If you’re in the US, I’d bet the G15 will go on sale again soon. It was $300 off just a couple of weeks ago!
@@JoshCravesTech I can't thank you enough, Josh. Wow, what an absolutely extraordinary comparison that you gave me to review. I will definitely require a Webcam for client meetings and such, so it appears the Legion is going to be the way to go for me. Unfortunately, I really like some of the specs of the other one. Also, I don't want a loud machine. But, I cannot see not having a Webcam in case I have a client that I need to do video consultations with.
Josh, you have really provided me with such great knowledge, making it easier for me to narrow this down. I greatly appreciate the time you took to show me the differences. What a blessing. It will help speed up my search. Thank you kindly for all of your help. You're an absolute gem.
@@JoshCravesTech One last thing, Josh. When you provided the list of attributes of the Legion above, were you referring to the Legion 5, or 5 Pro? Would you recommend me just biting the bullet and eating the extra cost of the 7? I definitely need as much storage as possible. However, I'm unsure of the added benefits of having a 7 vs a 5 (or 5 Pro) so I'm studying the differences. Do you have a preference with which one to go for? (I imagine I'll have to keep it plugged in the entire time I'm using it if doing a website.)
I love the random images with white background
Insane comparison, please more comparisons!
Interesting review Josh. Well done. Like your way of presenting things.
Interesting comparison. It's definitely a preference thing at the end of the day. I just bought the Pro and I'm intent on sticking with the purchase. I'd be using it for gaming, academic work, running intense programs. I like the old school design and bulk makes it feel strong haha. Also using external keyboard and mouse, never like laptop keys and pad anyway. Maybe I'd reconsider for the G15 if it wasn't more expensive than the Legion, from my perspective it makes no sense on getting a smaller, slower machine for a greater price.
Yeah, both are still amazing laptops! The best out there. All comes down to subjective differences for sure.
Lenovo is for very serious professionals asus is for sensitive kids
For some reason all G15s I have available come with the 1080p screen and now I don't mind, gonna take extra fps without extra blurriness and use my external 1440p display when possible anyway. Thanks for the tests.
Amazing video man . Just the video I was looking for . Keep it up 💪😎🔥🔥🔥
Great video Josh. I was on the fence which one to pick up and this video really helped.
Thank you!
Great videos comparing these two! For the G15, does the external monitor need to be plugged in a specific way to get the dedicated effect? (DP, HDMI, etc.) And does the laptop screen need to be turned off as well?
Yes, for the performance boost you need to be hooked up through DisplayPort. Laptop screen can stay on though, doesn’t really make a difference.
@@JoshCravesTech can you close the laptop if its connected to a external screen or is that not recommended
@@xruud24 not recommended! The laptop won’t be able to cool itself properly with the lid closed.
@@JoshCravesTech ok
@@JoshCravesTech Will HDMI do the job? Or is it just Display Port?
Really concise summary - thank you
Wow thank you!!
Great content. Agree with everything except for the snapshot you showed on the temps. CPU clock for the Legion was at least running 800 mhz higher thus showing higher temps. Nice to see if there's any difference in terms of temps and if there's any performance gains if you underlock Legion's CPU by a bit.
@@Yusuf-tk2ge thank you so much! So the CPU clock speed thing can be a complex topic. On the practical side, those are the temps most people will see when using the machines. The 5900HS runs more efficiently and dynamically raises and lowers clock speed when needed depending on the task. And it does it well, with the liquid metal helping a good bit. Here’s a clip I have of it at higher clocks:
czcams.com/video/wnhSnV8HSZM/video.html
The Legion was arguably running at a higher CPU clock speed than it needed to be here. However, underclocking or disabling cpu boost could hurt performance overall because in a CPU-bound scenario such as when lots of players are in one area, you might see frame/stability drops.
So for me measuring in a more analytical standpoint there didn’t make as much sense but overall at high clock speeds both CPUs will definitely hit those upper 80s and possible lower to even mid 90s. This is just the case for most Ryzen processors but it’s not really a bad thing as they are designed to handle that long term. The point here was more disproving the crazy hype I was seeing on Reddit about Lenovo having “the best thermals” because it’s more so just average, which isn’t a bad thing though!
It's 2022 and I'm currently looking deeply at getting one of these. Does the G15 have a Mux switch yet and I'm also wanting a Web cam for some CZcams gaming streaming which I'm pretty excited about. Still trying to figure it all out. Excellent channel sir I will aspire to your quality level of editing.
@@juicybear7696 2022 G15 has a mux switch and webcam! It is not currently out yet in the US but it will be soon :)
This review is amazing!!! This is exactly the information I was looking for with the G15. Tyvm
Nice comparison! Keep at it 👏🏼
The G15 would be the perfect laptop for the price if it had a webcam and that RAM module wasn't baked into the motherboard. It definitely has its advantages, as you adeptly pointed out in this vid. The biggest advantage is its portability, which is basically what laptops are all about, even when it comes to gaming laptops. That being said, I'm ok with the compromised portability of the Legion 5 pro because I'm not toting it around in a backpack. As long as I can get it in a carrying bag and get it in the trunk of my car, I'm ok with it. For others, that better portability of the G15 is a must.
Agreed! That and a mux switch would make it perfect although I have a feeling Asus will do all of that for 2022. However the soldered ram doesn’t bother me. I’ve since upgraded to 24gb and seen only an increase in performance! But totally agree on the portability. For your situation and preferences the Legion makes sense for sure.
@@JoshCravesTech Asus already have M16 with camera. In principle, I do not understand why you comparing Legion Pro with g15, if on the screen it is an obvious analogue of m16.
@@PurpleDaemon_ The M16 is only available with an RTX 3060. And it’s Intel. Also it’s usually more expensive than both of these even with the lower tier GPU. A very different machine from the Legion 5 Pro despite the screen size being the same.
The G15 makes more sense to compare because both are arguably the most sought after laptops of the year. Both are Ryzen 5000 series, still in QHD range, and the RTX 3070 build is the most common spec for both.
I really hope Asus makes a G16 next year though! Or an M16 with 12th gen i7 and an RTX 3070ti or something.
@@JoshCravesTech you are wrong about gpu. For example GU603HR version have gtx 3070. I understand that m16 came only with Intel, but the legion can have the same Intel as well.
@@PurpleDaemon_ well at least in the US the M16 only has an RTX 3060. If it came with a 3070 I’d buy it in a heartbeat. But it’s still a lot more expensive for some reason than other laptops in its spec range. The G15 and L5P are usually about the same price here in the US
I started hating this review at first, but everything summed up nicely at the end making this quite an accurate and fair review... I just wish I had watched it before :(
Thank You very much! This is exactly what I needed to hear.
Ayo, Ngl this video is super detailed on both sides of the laptops and I am highly impressed with the descriptions and ( memes ) categories as well, What I love about this video is mainly what is our preferences between these laptops, Excellent video!
Hi, since the Zephyrus G15 has a similar ventilation placement to the Zephyrus M16, isn't it concerning that the hot air is blowing into the screen?
I was going to purchase the M16 because of its thin design and nice specs, but this aspect of the screen heating and its thermals is troubling me, so I'm thinking of going with the L5P.
No, it’s no issue with the ventilation hitting the bezel. I have only seen a few cases where the bezel glue was bad and the heat accelerated the issue, but that’s not on the ventilation, that’s a rare QC issue with bezel glue. People have been mining crypto on these and the M16 for months at full power/full fans with no issues so I wouldn’t worry about it :)
All this video made me do is decide the legion is definitely the better laptop.
Thank you for clearing my doubts soo much confusing between both I will go for g15 ❤️❤️❤️😢
Thanks for such a refreshing video. Informative, and to the point. I've subscribed to your channel.
Thanks!!
For me having a number pad I thought was going to be a deal breaker until a realize how little I use it. The G15 has an amazing trackpad and display. Also is is ultra portable for a gaming laptop. It is the best balance in terms of performance and battery life. I don’t know about the legion but the zephyrus is a good laptop overall and is one of the best laptops period
full size arrow keys are more important imo, especially for programming
Dude, it's literally the same size as the L5P. It's just one pound lighter, you will never under any circumstances notice it.
Also both need to be plugged in to do even mild gaming, so... what's that about "efficiency and battery life"? Oh right, nothing.
Zephyrus also has a hideously slow screen, response time is awful.
@@acumenium8157 g14 2021 has slower response,not g15
@@akshay5569 G15 is really slow too. All Zephyrus models have really slow response times. And asinine hot screens that won't last long.

Tldr from all these comments: G15 is the better laptop if you care about portability, battery life, taking it around. L5 pro is better if you are mainly using it plugged in AND you are going with either 32GB from factory or are going to upgrade your stock 1xR16 to 1xR8 ram ...
The way you will use your laptop is different than the way Josh will use his laptop. The L5 pro may be a better fit for you but that doesn't mean it's a better laptop for Josh, and vice versa. Even if his L5 Pro came with the better 1xR8 ram the perforance increase may not be enough to offset the other limitations ..

you broke my confusion. Nothing to say, great.❤️❤️❤️
Subscribed just bcoz of this comparison, especially the explaination regarding the dGPU and hybrid mode. Thank you so much for this perfectly timed video as I was gonna pull the trigger on L5P coz I was bombarded with so many positive reviews for L5P everywhere. I'll just wait for the new versions of G14s to release with a MUX switch. Will you do reviews/comparison video comparing the old vs new model?
Yo thank you so much! I will definitely be reviewing the new ones in comparison 😎
For most people, Legion 5 Pro offers the best feature set and the least amount of compromise (MUX Switch, both RAMs upgradeable, has a Webcam, superior customer support service and warranty, etc.). All these options gives the Legion 5 Pro better future proofing than the G15 because once your soldered RAM goes caput within your 1 year warranty, no matter how small of a chance that is, you're SOL. Meanwhile, Ultimate Legion support can extend up to 4 years and you can get Accidental Damage Support for only $20 and if you accidentally break your laptop, they'll replace the whole system at least once.
You also forgot to mention that the G15 uses liquid metal for the CPU and is the only reason why it's running much cooler. Somebody in reddit modified their Legion 5 Pro with liquid metal and got the same, if not, better than your CPU temps. Now repaste your G15 with regular thermal paste and see how much hotter it gets.
Yes, very true. Remember that compromise is subjective here though. I personally would not compromise to have those things at the cost of that trackpad, keyboard, weight, gigantic power brick, battery life, and iffy quiet mode. And while odds are slim that the soldered ram would be the one to die, that’s a fair point.
I can’t vouch for their support as I haven’t had to deal with either one but I do appreciate Lenovo’s affordable support options!
@@JoshCravesTech And packing external display because of no MUX - oh wait...
@@patrikgrulich2 the cool thing is I can still get 90-95% of the same performance on the go without the mux switch. And then when I’m at home I can get that full power and match or surpass the Legion 5 Pro in games. Sure I wish the G15 had a mux, but I’d take the portability and premium features any day.
If the soldered ram die, the laptop won't turn on? Or it will use the one in the ram slot? Also I agree with Josh, because it depends on your needs, I'd rather have a slimmer laptop that I can carry on easily for work or maybe some night with the boys playing some eSports game like dota 2. Then when I'm back in my home, pug it to my external monitor, my mouse and mechanical keyboard.
@@cesartocon3073 it will use the ram in the other slot if the soldered one dies. You can RMA it at that point. But yes I agree with you!
Love this review, because you highlighted the differences in the audio speakers. Since most reviewers say the Asus has the better sound quality, I'm now looking at the G15.
Thank you! You will love these speakers!
Who buys a laptop for the speakers lol
@@robertvan1 well here’s an example. A ton of people buy MacBooks over windows laptops for premium features like their keyboard, trackpad, and speakers. So… yeah a lot of people. And it’s nice too when the speakers are good enough to be heard over the fans when casually gaming

In the future, games will support upscaling a lot more often. So I do not agree on not comparing with identical resolutions. DLSS and/or FSR are already supported in many games and I believe future updates will bring that to many more games. In the future, native resolution will be much more irrelevant, which is why I opted for higher than 1080p resolution for a gaming laptop. I find it very logical to compare using same resolution.
Yeah they’re both QHD. I have a lot of benchmarks with both in 1440p in my new video. I agree though, QHD is the future. And maybe even good 4K in the next couple years

I have the Asus TUF 4800H/RTX2060 version. I would strongly recommend repasting if you intend to keep it. My paste was 100% dry on the cpu and gpu in so much that a paper towel wipe removed nothing at all. My idle temp was 70°C before repasting and adding thermal pads.
TUF series have a lot of heating issues.
I just add to subscribe your channel because of your honest review
God, finally the best review I have found on CZcams After 3 weeks
I'm with you on pretty much everything great comparison video. One thing I think is questionable is the CPU temperature comparison. I think there's probably another confounding variable that was missed because the temperature differences in this video seem to be outliers to other reviews. Either way good stuff.
Thanks so much! Yeah I’m not sure if driver updates changed something or what, because I couldn’t believe it myself, but every time I tested it was the same result.
Yea that part was hard to believe. But my legion 5 pro I recently got does run hot. Even on quiet mode, total war warhammer goes up to 90c just on the map in the prologue.
Yes the different clock speeds i guess
Yes the g15is only pushing 3.3ghz compared to the legions 4ghz. Its not an apples to apples comparison. The g15 is known for running hot as it should with its super thin chassis.
look at the cpu clock ... one of them on 4k other 3,2k :)
My G15 had 1RX16 memory soldered to the motherboard, same tRFC but slower when I compared aida64 with Jarrod's legion 5 pro video. I know that the difference in performance because of this is minimal but still all units should have the same ram since you can't upgrade the soldered one. Not including a webcam was not a good move from asus. If asus made the m16 with ryzen cpu and fully upgradable ram then that would've been the best laptop period. So I returned mine to get the legion 7. I really wanted to keep the g15 but the ram and the absence of a webcam didn't sit right with me.
I get that. Luckily my RAM was good. I don’t mind it being soldered (unless it was slow) also I never use a webcam but I also totally get that. Hopefully the next iteration from Asus (G16 hopefully) has those features (and a MUX switch for the love of god) cause it would be unstoppable
And I'm a college student so a Webcam would've made this laptop lit
i liked a lot about the L5P i've been testing but decided to return it today. So you're saying the G15 runs fairly silently in silent mode? and there's asus software that uses your phone as a webcam? thanks-- cool vid :)
What was your reasoning? Yes, the G15 has the best silent mode I’ve personally ever used in a gaming laptop. I even ran some demanding benchmarks to see what it would do and it stayed super quiet. And yes, I believe it’s called Asus Link for the phone/webcam software. Thanks for watching!
@@JoshCravesTech there’s a lot to like wit the L5P but for a mobile device I need it to be quiet when doing quiet things like writing, web research, and video calls. I’m fine trading silence for performance but when I messaged lenovo about quiet mode not being actually quiet they acted like it was a bizarre question. I’m going to try the G15. Maybe I wind up getting 2 laptops, a Mac air for writing and such and a beefy loud etc for gaming.
Great comparison Josh. There's a lot of reviewers not stressing how big the Legion PSU is or how noisy those fans are.
True! That was something I noticed being left out of a lot of reviews as well
@Josh Cravey Yeah it's frustrating, especially as this is where a lot of computing companies are cutting corners. Some PSUs for gaming laptops are close to 1KG. It's crazy.
i was really thinking in getting lenovo all the time but after alot of research and even with g15 having not mux switch, i decide to buy the g15 and dam i dont regret it i love it its perfect for anything, gaming, battery and all :) i got the 300hz 1080p one ( even i can try with amd virtual super resolution at 1440p )
What about the ventilation placement (the hot air blowing into the screen)?
I was considering the M16 because it's lightweight and seems good but the fan being too close to the screen is troubling me.
@@HydraStar01 at least in my case im not having issues at all with that, i have play alot of games with full turbo mode and till this day like i told u havent been a issue at all the hot air!

I believe that they handle wiping the drives, but if you feel safer doing it yourself then go for it!

Hello! I've already purchased L5p (the 3070 one) and it'll arrive in a few days. I've found this video just now. I'm a newbie to these kinda things so before the purchase was made I haven't looked at many in depth comparisons among the similar spec laptops. I actually went with a laptop because the desktop variants of the same hardware are a lot more expensive (prebuilt or not) and most importantly, non existent in these times. I know that the mobile versions of these CPUs and GPUs are considerably slower but I just wanted the best of the available options. So basically I've bought this just to play games and usual laptop stuff like browsing, content consumption and all. It'll just sit on my desk and I'll use it plugged in all the time just like any other non gaming laptop I've ever used. Most of the reviewers praised this laptop plenty and ofcourse mentioned few cons here and there just like they would for any other laptop. The very few "features" I've considered that made me choose L5p over the others are that it's got a good display (the reviewers think so anyway) and that it's got hdmi 2.1 and I've noticed that the other laptops don't. So I thought I could play some of my favourite older games on our lg oled at 4k and I was okay with lower settings and fps as long as they're playable (very amateur reasoning probably and now that I think about it Idk what kind of compatibility issues I'll have to deal with regarding hdmi 2.1). In the videos I've watched, I've noticed that the performance was pretty similar to other laptops with similar specs. I'm not a hard-core gamer and I'm more into open world single player titles and story mode titles so I'm okay with playable okay-ish framerate.
Sorry for making you read something this long and boring. I just wanted to let you know my perspective so as to ask your opinion on my purchase, whether it's a bad one or not and whether it's alright for my needs because it's too late for me to consider returning it for other options as I burned my brother's money for this and I prefer not to make him mad at me for changing my mind after the purchase😅. Plus the return/replace policy isn't so good where I live.
As you've noticed already English isn't my first language so I hope you've understood everything I've wanted to convey.
Hey! So based on your situation, the Legion is a perfect fit! It has HDMI 2.1 for your tv, and if you usually keep it on your desk anyway then that’s great. The Zephyrus is better for if you value portability and battery life but it doesn’t sound like that’s going to be as much of a concern based on what you’ve said so if I were you I’d go with the Legion.
@@JoshCravesTech Thanks! That's very reassuring :).

This is a good comparison, nothing too technical and upto point. Good work!
It's almost impossible to find a 3060 G15 anywhere and even more so sales of it when L5P has supplies, although longer wait, and sales.
I'm kinda forced into L5P bc I can buy it for $1300 (after tax) with all the sales while G15 is nowhere near that.
Yeah in your case I’d probably go with the L5P! It’s still a great laptop, you won’t be disappointed!

I purchased the G15 in India (RTX 3060) because of some of the reasons you mentioned. My unit had a poor fit for the display panel and overnight the panel stopped working. This was within 48 hours of delivery. Now, after 10 days, I'm still waiting for a technical check and return or replace. I have been scarred by ASUS now. I have been a Lenovo customer for 12 years. I hope my replaced unit doesn't have issues.
I’m so sorry to hear that! Do you know if maybe it was the shipping carrier that mishandled it? Defective panels do happen but it’s pretty rare. Backlight bleed or a dead pixel is usually the most common defect in laptop panels, even Lenovo isn’t safe from that. Hoping your replacement unit is perfect though!
@@JoshCravesTech the issue seems that there is a tiny but visible gap between panel and the bezel on one side. After one day of use the screen showed some weird lines from that side, then stopped working the next day. To me it seems to be QC issue.

If you're a frame chaser, you can flash a vBIOS on the G15 to get 140 watts to the GPU.
I'm a tweaker (of laptops, not meth), so I've done some stuff to my M16 to improve thermals and performance (modifications to the frame, audio and cooling systems), but I've found stock performance to be fine, so I haven't overclocked or flashed the vBIOS or anything.
Hi Josh, thank you kindly for your informative video without and advice or sponsorship by one of the companies.
I never owned a gaming laptop, only had a (gaming) pc till now.
I’ve spent days and multiple hours on reviews, fact sheets and opinions.
At first I was looking for a (gaming)notebook within the price range of EUR 1200-1600, then it started to go higher with every comparison.
I realized to spent at least EUR 1800 or 2000 to have a system which would satisfy me for at least 5 and 6 years.
I am not a gamer, would consider myself as an enjoyer, but when I buy something than it has to be the “perfect” choice.
I also got my attention on the Lenovo i5 pro, since is really hyped up and goes mainstream at the moment as I noticed it in every comment section on (vs) videos, but I love the unique design of Asus ROG Zeyphyrus series.
In terms of power I preferred the Lenovo, since it provides a higher average of FPS by 15% - before I’ve spotted your video.
Now I am very curious and really want to know your and others (FREE and NEUTRAL) opinions, since you don’t have any advantage about my decision.
Last and not least, there is also Aourus 15 X5 around with an Intel i7 12700H, RTX 3070ti purchasable for EUR 2000, which is the cheapest among of my favorites.
What would you recommend and why?
I am looking for your answers.
I think you're a bit biased here. I just bought the Legion 5 Gen 6 2021 model with RTX 3060 130W and Ryzen 5800H but it has 1080p. I was getting Zephyrus for the same price but here's why I skipped it.
1. 1080p and 1440p aren't really noticable on 15' screens. Real difference starts to show at 24'. Most of the content online still doesn't support 1440p. CZcams also has 1440 on very few videos. Your own video has 1080p max. Netflix has 1080p and 4K. Playing 1080p videos on 1440p screen doesn't look as good as 1080p on native resolution screen especially on 15' screen size.
2. Now, coming to the gaming. Competitive games demand frame rates so 1080p native is better. Story mode games are best experienced on bigger screens. On 15' 1080p and 1440p won't make much difference. 1440p instead will reduce frame rates and then add the fact that Zephyrus has 95W TGP and no MUX compared to Legion 5. To enjoy story modes the best, use an external monitor. Using external monitors, this "native" dilemma goes away and you're at the same resolution on both the laptops. 3060 130W shines here and having it is an advantage. Your tests were not exhaustive but play graphically intensive games like Metro Exodus and Cyberpunk at ultra settings on higher resolution monitors and compare 130W vs 90W on the same resolution. You'll see the differece. Even getting 10 more frames in Cyberpunk from 49 to 60 makes a huge difference.
3. Speakers: Not a big deal since laptop speakers aren't enough anyway for 5 people sitting in a room. I had JBL speakers in my previous laptop with great sound but they were still not enough when I had to show someone a video sitting 5 feet away from me. Bluetooth speakers to the rescue.
4. Battery life: Zephyrus has an advantage here. Legion 5 Gen 6 1080p is giving 6-7 hours but Zephyrus gives 10. That's the compromise. You don't game and switch to productivity every 5 minutes. So adjusting settings on Legion to get those 7 hours isn't as big a hassle as you show it to be. Barely takes 1 minute to open Vantage and windows control panel when you're finally setting up for gaming. But Zephyrus wins in battery department and portability hands down. Although, most youtubers in my region are showing that Zyphyrus is giving 5-6 hrs of CZcams browsing. Idk what's true.
Why I chose Legion 5 then? 1080p giving better frame rates in native resolution for gaming. In the near future, you won't be able to play many titles in 1440p easily. 1080p will come to the rescue then. An available MUX switch without a need of buying an external monitor. A dedicated camera without the need of carrrying one around all the time, it's a bigger hassle than setting up Legion on 60Hz and quiet mode for better battery life. You have an immediate call, where would you adjust the phone on the canteen table or a library with Zephyrus for the front camera? Better TGP GPU is going to be more future proof. An option to upgrade dual channel RAM. 10 years ago 4GB was enough. 5 years ago 8GB was enough. Now it's 16GB. Dual channel is the way to go. My Legion shipped with the faster 1xR8 RAM fortunetely. I think they've rectified this problem now.
I'm not saying Legion is better or Zephyrus is better. Both have their own pros and cons but the way you're thrashing Legion and praising Zephyrus seemed like a lot of exaggeration to me.
I mean I could say you’re biased towards Legion based on this comment, lol 😂 No offense though. We all have our preferences. Remember, the video is titled “Why I’m Returning the Legion 5 Pro”. It’s not a smear campaign, I still loved that laptop. It’s just that my preferences and observations, as well as my data led me to choosing the G15.
I get your reasoning though for the 1080p Legion 5. 1080p is not a bad choice. Especially for competitive games. I had a 1080p HP Omen 15 and it was awesome, but personally I did notice a boost in clarity and sharpness in 1440p with it next to my G15. Some people don’t notice it though, or it’s just not enough to justify. With QHD you can also scale things down and fill more of your screen without losing clarity. Also playing games at 1080p still looks surprisingly good for some reason on the G15.
Also, I tested the Legion more with it plugged into my external monitor. It didn’t really gain much of anything by going from 1600p to 1440p, sometimes even lost fps. I also tested a couple more games recently. And yes, Control is extremely GPU heavy like Cyberpunk and it was the same thing. Just slight differences, mostly from the mux switch and not nearly as much from the wattage. Check out this video to see: czcams.com/video/q4nje-k4Vww/video.html
Speakers aren’t a big deal to you but they are to me and many other consumers. It’s part of the reason why people praise MacBooks. I like to use my laptop for more than gaming. I watch CZcams videos on it, movies, etc. Having nice speakers is great so I don’t have to always worry about plugging headphones in.
The mux switch is nice, but as DLSS gets better and NVIDIA further optimizes performance in games and on their cards, I guarantee 1440p will still be very playable in the future on laptops like the Zephyrus and Legion both. Your RAM argument is valid though. Although most agree that 16GB has been plenty and still will be for some time to come (unless you’re doing 8k video editing or something), it won’t be that way forever. But we’ll probably all move on to better laptops by then anyway 😂
@@icybear5418 read my response to the comment. Again the video is titled, “Why I’m Returning the Legion 5 Pro”, I make it very clear what my personal preferences are. Your personal preferences could be completely opposite to mine and that’s okay. Trying to discredit my entire review because I’m “biased” is just kinda weird and childish to be honest. I just lay out the info as an independent reviewer, you’re free to take it as you please. All the data however is factual.
yep, he is exaggerating it. legion gaming laptops have many more reviews out there and most of them agree that legion have better overall specs, performance, and heat management than the competition in the same price range
asus gaming laptops have quality issues since 2020. just check fb groups and you'll verify that many have quality control problems and have returned their units many times
I am a legion 5 pro owner and when people ask me if I recommend it I typically tell them no. The truth is that when Lenovo added that "pro" tag it really stands for "workstation" or "desktop replacement". The legion 5 pro is a masterclass in knowing your use case. I have a desktop that has all the latest and greatest stuff inside and no reason for a gaming laptop when home. But when I travel for work 50-70% of the year (even during c19) I need a personal computer (not the company) that I can game on run a test server etc. So I upgraded my legion with 8tb of storage and 64gb of ram. When it's setup in my hotel it's always with an external keyboard and mouse (the built in ones drive me up the wall). So I have worked around the issues of the legion 5 pro. If I was only gaming on this laptop and not a portable server then yes the Asus g15 would be king. But based on what I carry with me the legion is kick ass.
You can put 8TB Storage in it? Is it SSD or HDD?
@@fadhil4008 two nvme slots with 4tb per nvme.
I use mine as a desktop. Always plugged in, connected to 2 monitors and I also upgraded my RAM to 64GB, but only added another 512GB of storage. I'm not storage heavy. I just game and normal use. I could get a desktop, but when I travel, it's nice to pack this bad boy up and not be bored during downtimes. I did think the secondary NVME port was limited per the specs, but now I might upgrade it even more.
Lenovo Legion Pro is reasonably priced in relation to its specifications, but the g15 in general, ASUS have become overpriced, unfortunately.
8Tb ssd nvm 64gb ram on a laptop…WOW!!
Great comparison video Josh. Quick question, you touched on portability, but how do the touchpad/trackpad on the G15 and Legion 5 Pro compare? There are times when I simply need to send an email to my boss or submit my timecard at home, so being able to quickly do that without having to power on the mouse etc would be nice. I know some laptops have absolute trash touchpads.
The G15’s trackpad is amazing. Like MacBook quality glass. The Legion’s is awful. I’m picky about trackpads. The Legion’s is plastic and creates friction with your finger. It’s usable, but not good.
I have the 5 pro but the 2022 version and the trackpad don't have nearly as much fricion as in the video, not as good as glass trackpad but not even close to terrible.
@@branislavkovac419 this is true. The 2022 model’s trackpad is not as bad. I think they may have downgraded it again for 2023 though going off of what I’ve seen so far.

also at 16" is 1440p actually noticeable for you in games (I currently play at 720P and am planning to upgrade rtx3070 but don't know if there's an actual difference as people claim) would you recommend taking the performance hit and going for a 1440P panel or get a high refresh 1080P panel
Thank you! Yeah, you will see a huge difference from 720p to 1440p. I would recommend 1440p just for the clarity of text being much sharper and increased detail with graphics. I wouldn’t say it’s “night and day” to go from 1080p to 1440p but it is a nice little bump up in sharpness and clarity. You can always drop it down to 1080p in your settings too, although it will look a little blurry, you can at least get the higher frames from doing so.
Hmm, I'm not sure what to say about this since it's kinda all over the place, but I do understand that you prefer Asus Zephyrus G15 due to it being more portable (lightweight and slightly smaller), better speakers, touchpad, software and battery life. In the end of the day, it's all up to you on what kind of trade-offs you're fine to live with, as long as you felt comfortable to use it daily. But I do have to wonder on what kind of tool you used to measure the FPS for games? Cause I personally use MSI Afterburner (+ Rivatuner) for precise FPS measurement (as it's done by a lot of PC reviewer), and I'm not sure how good is Nvidia's own FPS counter.
Also, having 40% more TDP doesn't mean 40% more performance, with that said, the Legion 5 Pro is still a great gaming laptop if you're not moving around a lot and don't have an external monitor. But I do recommend to get at least a laptop stand or cooling pad if you're using Legion 5 Pro on that one place (which I think you forgot to say about the G15, which is having ergonomic design which lifts the bottom of the laptop for airflow).
If you ask me what laptop I'm using, I got myself the ROG Strix G17 2021 since Legion 5 Pro isn't available at my country 6 months ago.
I used MSI Afterburner when I could. But for some reason Afterburner no longer works with Call of Duty and some other games (because of anti-cheat I think) so I used Nvidia overlay there. However, I recorded my averages and these are my actual and accurate results.
But I get you, my personal preference is that I like the portability and premium features of the G15. People don’t like that I have that opinion though.
Also I’ve literally shown that the 40% more wattage doesn’t do much of anything versus just the mux switch itself. This points out a potential issue with Lenovo or Nvidia (I’m not entirely sure as I’d need more laptops to test) that people obviously aren’t ready to talk about because they’d rather get angry and defensive.
@Josh Cravey I do forgot to say this, but the stock memory do kinda hinders a lot of the performance on the Legion 5 Pro, which most gaming laptops with dual sodimm slots (aside from HP) nowadays comes with the slow memory (I know that since my Strix G17 also comes with it).
@@takimara154 You are correct, however my Legion did not come with the slow stock ram it’s known to have. Both of the ram sticks in both machines have identical timing and densities, so ram is equal on all tests here.

My only regret was that I didn't get a better GPU. My Legion has the RTX 2060 (6GB GDDR6). No slouch, but still I'm missing out on FPS's and overall headroom. I did upgrade mine to 64GB RAM and that helped out a lot. Side by side you might notices some differences, likes and preferences, but regardless these are the only 2 brands I'd buy a gaming laptop from. If you don't try to compare them, you'll be happy with whichever you get. That said this comparison is not exact apples to apples to begin with because of the processor difference.

Considering these two as a desktop replacement, plugged into two monitors (via some kind of hub I think?) on my desk 90% of the time. I was sold on g15 until I saw the comment on cooling and needing to keep the laptop open because the vents are facing up. That seems cumbersome, more dust on screen, more likely to get damaged, etc. Am I just overthinking it and practically its no big deal?
Yeah I don’t think keeping it open is a big deal. The screen is unaffected by the hot air. I’ve never had a problem with dust on mine or anything like that either. A lot of people have theirs on a stand and it looks cool. But yeah with that setup you can’t go wrong with either laptop!
I recently bought the Zephyrus G15 to replace my 4 year old MSI GT72VR behemoth. While I did totally love that MSI laptop it was really a pain in the ass to travel with. I took it on two deployments and several short TDY trips. The weight and ancient design of it were just annoying to deal with. it weighed over 12 lbs in a backpack with all the accessories and was a total backbreaker. It had a terrible trackpad too. The Zephyrus is better in every way. It feels premium, looks premium and performs premium. It's less than half the total weight of the MSI system and outperforms it too (of course since it's 4 years newer, but still) I'm very happy with the Zephyrus G15

I was planning to buy the le5 pro, but after seeing this video, I've changed my mind. I really don't care too much about weight and appearance. Same with the keyboard + touchpad because I use a separate keyboard and mouse. In terms of price , it is quite similar in my country . The two most important things are performance and temperature. The Le5 pro is highly rated by reviewers in this regard, while the g15 is the exact opposite (lower performance, while higher temperatures). In fact, through your video, it's really impressive about g15
With a machine just for playing csgo and forza horizon 5 , which one should I choose for hardcore gaming ( max graphic and playing for 3-4 hours )
I will be very grateful if you reply
Depends, do you play on external screen? Legion will have a pretty good lead in fps in CSGO if you’re only playing on the laptop screen. On external monitor, the G15 performs about the same as the Legion. If you don’t care about touchpad/portability/design then either one will be great for you!
I really dont think the data shown here in this video is accurate. Especially when the tests were being made, I am kinda suspicious that the there was some kind of deliberate sabotage, like artificially blocking exhaust ports to raise temp leading to worse performance (exhausts and all are deliberately not in the video frame when displaying the comparisons) . keep in mind that for all tests, the legion has higher resolution, and a lower series processor, and inspite of that it edged out the G15 for most performance tests.
@@tirthanandi9623 You’re joking right? Look at my longer video of this comparison. I literally show side by side footage czcams.com/video/75b1Md44l4M/video.html
Claiming deliberate sabotage is ridiculous, I bought the Legion 5 Pro because I was genuinely curious as to how it would compare to the G15. I couldn’t find any numbers out there on the G15 in dGPU mode or the Legion in hybrid so I wanted to see how these two truly compared when on an even level. My results were surprising to me to find out that there is diminishing returns on wattage, which is why I made this video about it. I spent weeks using both laptops, with dozens of hours on each testing, getting averages, and retesting.
The Legion has slightly more pixels to push out but the difference is so small that even when dropping the Legion down to 1440p in games it barely does anything, if anything at all. Also most people will be playing in the 1600p resolution anyways so it makes more sense to test it that way. Check out my gaming comparison video to see me drop it down to 1440p more and see for yourself how it changes
@@tirthanandi9623 also you can compare my Legion’s gaming performance to literally anyone using the same settings and it performs about the same if not better than most others I’ve seen.

Do you think I should pay the extra cash for the 5Pro version? Thanks a lot!!
I think the Legion 5 is a FHD 1080p screen while the 5 Pro is 1600p. So you’ll be at a lower resolution but because of that your fps will be much higher in games.

In France the legion's price is 1500€ and the zephyrus's price is 2300€ there is a big difference between price so it's normal for quality of materials isn't it?
Seems like its the Same in whole europe :)
Exactly, we are talking about quality and price and being judicious and fair, I think that the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro takes the points in favor for the price and quality, since we are practically talking almost twice the price of the Asus.
I think it's based on supply and demand from Asia to Europe. Most Asian gamers tend to buy ASUS products way more than Lenovo. I think it has something to do with Asia not exporting enough to Europe since America is a better market for gaming laptops so the ones that ASUS does send over to Europe tends to be much fewer. The reason I say this is because ASUS laptops are priced slightly cheaper in Asia especially when converting the exchange rates. Sucks for the rest of the world with lower stock but since every gaming thing is manufactured in Asia we sometimes get better prices and picks. I mean you can pick up a 3060, 3070, 3080, 3090 here no problem in Korea and it's not upselled in price like the rest of the planet right now.
What's the problem with L5P's materials? Aluminium top, aluminium botton, only the keyboard is plastic but it feels great! Super sturdy and premium built laptop! Everyone seems to be using SUPER MEGA PREMIUM BRUSHED STAINLESS STEEL 100% SILENT MECHANICAL keyboard on their $20 000 laptops, so L5P's keyboard feels cheap in comparison lmao smh you're ridiculous

The Strix is definitely one of the best bang-for-your-buck laptops out there! Performance is amazing, and it will definitely beat the Legion in games by quite a bit. It also benefits really well from giving it 32gb of dual rank ram, especially in e-sports games. I’d choose that one personally.
Which ram did you used on both ? speed and timings
Both have the same exact ram speed here. tRFC (ns) 350, tRFC 560, tRFC2 416, tRFC4 256
Legion 5 Pro owner here. I have the 3070 and you'll only love this thing for:
1. The majority of the ports are behind, which I prefer the most.
2. Quite silent even playing at ultra.
3. Doesn't have high thermals, so long as you use it where there's adequate ventilation.
4. FPS galore.
5. Aluminum body bodes well for build quality and heat management.
6. Keys feel and type okay for me.
7. Physical switch for the webcam, because spying is bad.
8. If I'm going 15.6" and above, I'd like a numpad with it. This won't be used purely just for gaming and not having a good numpad sucks for doing work.
You won't like this for:
1. Washed out HDR (like what you said)
2. Poor sound (idk but almost no bass or nothing at all)
3. Why lift at the gym when you can just bring this? Including the brick.
4. Again, that heavy ass brick.
5. You'll only enjoy using this when it's charging from the wall because most people would use it this way.
6. Subpar battery life outside the wall socket (I get 3 and a half hours max unplugged)
7. If you're into RGB, just get the 7.
8. Lenovo and their shady claims about this coming with an Intel AX210 or equivalent WLAN card, and bad RAM (shortages maybe?), I got this with a Realtek chip.
I got mine from the factory with 2 SKHynix 1TB SSD's and 32GB of RAM, so I'm not going to feel getting left behind by every new machine coming out after this, even by the 3080's.
Overall, for my use, I'm fine with it and don't see returning/selling mine. It's not like it will be the last laptop you'll buy in your life. But that G15 sure blows this thing out in the portability and unplugged use department. Great review!
Love this comment! Thanks for watching!
Hello, do you have any problems with realtek wlan card?
@@David-nz8rf No. If you don't have Wifi 6 then getting an Intel chip won't do you any better speed. I can still get 160Mbps from this.
I'd love to see a Zephyrus G15 Advantage Edition!
Possibly with a 6800M.
thats a ROG Strix not a Zeph
ROG Strix, not Zephyrus. I ordered one once before my L5P, and what a major disappointment it was, gave me a BSOD that lasted more than 15 minutes. And it wasn't worth repairing either.
lmao your wish is granted this year but its the g14
Could you please tell me if the Lenovo Vantage App, can you adjust the fan speed same as MSI or ASUS, or are you stuck with just a slight adjustment on the fan speeds, I have seen may complaints about this in the forums.
You are stuck with very slight fan speed adjustments, and laptops before 2023 don’t have this or it’s a very limited version. The Lenovo Manual fan curve is designed mostly for increasing fan speeds instead of decreasing fan speeds.
Nice video, personally i would still go for the legion 5 pro
also how did u know that your lenovo legion did not come with the slower ram? do laptops still retail with that?
Thanks! The ram is a bit of a lottery. The 32gb ones are always fine. The 16gb models almost always comes with 1rx16 though, but the timings can be fast or slow. A 1rx16 stick with fast timings offers about the same performance as a 1rx8 stick, especially at QHD where it doesn’t matter much. You can check the timings of your ram using ZenTimings
@@JoshCravesTech thanks ill try that when i get my legion 5 pro
Guys chill it's a "personal perspective" review. My l5p 3070 is slaying in gaming which is my primary usecase. Ofcourse using external keyboard/mouse. Thermals are acceptable also. Ram upgraded to 32 gig dual rank, running 2*2tb of xpg GAMMIX S70 ssd with that stock heatsink removed. The whole package is just perfect for my use case.
Thank you!! Finally someone with some sense! Lol, I cannot believe the defensiveness out here.
I’m glad you’re enjoying your machine, it is an awesome gaming laptop!
this video is going to get so much flack for doing this comparison, thanks this is exactly what i was looking for
How is L5P as a desktop? Does it overhe at often when playing games? I just wanna know before buying this because I plan to use it for a few years ...
It’s a good desktop replacement. It’s perfect for just keeping in one spot. It does not overheat in games, Ryzen CPUs are designed to handle playing games in the 90C-100C range with no problem so don’t worry if it gets there sometimes
Dude... I love this review and the humor very much. Reminds me of my best reviewer -Jared Buschs
Did you stay with the G15? And if so, could you do a long term review?
Thanks! Yes, I’ve stuck with the G15 and still loving it! It works just as good, if not better than when I made this video. I have an optimization guide out for it now and more G15 content coming soon! Also working on a comparison to the Legion 7i
@@JoshCravesTech Thanks man. As for the comparison, that'll be gold. Can't wait!
Well, it's almost 2k€ the 3060 G15 vs 1500€ for the legion 5 pro
Almost the opposite in the US depending on the deal you find. But yes if one were that much cheaper than the other then totally go for it because they’re both great!
this, here in norway, the g15 costs 3200 euros vs 1600 euros for the legion 5 pro
@@JavierReyes-ot3ps holy crap! :o that’s insane! Why is Asus so expensive there
@@JavierReyes-ot3ps Woah! Tha's a big difference
@@JoshCravesTech Here in Slovakia/Europe. I ordered the L5P (5600h,3060,16gb,500gb ssd, no os) for 1149€, Win 10 pro retail will be for like 15-30€. What do you guys think, is it a good deal?
great video! jarrod's game benchmarks lowers the resolution to 1080p, so not native resolution. that's one of my biggest concern for considering these two. I want to see performance at the native resolution. so thanks for showing that! i also prefer G15 but it costs about 15%-20% more from a 5 pro where I'm from. so yeah...
@@Daniel_Carracedo i think you're exaggerating. He is never biased. He just shows the laptop maximum capabilities i.e. optimus disabled and his chart is only applicable for 1080p gaming. That's the only thing I find lacking in his reviews as I dont see myself turning down the resolution to FHD if I have a QHD laptop. So Josh method of comparing native resolution here is what I prefer.
@@hudzryfox I mean I did a whole dedicated video with 13 games at all setting presets at both the native 2560x1600 and 1920x1200 resolution, what more do you want? I use 1080p for comparing because it's what I have data for on other machines, it makes no sense for me to test them all on random resolutions in the hope that one day the data will be of use.
@@JarrodsTech Yo!! I’m star struck, Jarrod is on my channel. The fact that you even went through the comments enough to find this 😂 I love it. But yeah you’re right, I got a lot of data and valuable info from your “tested in __ games” videos on each laptop which show native res and it’s awesome. I think what Ahmad is trying to get at here is it would be cool if in your overall review videos where you go over every aspect of the laptop, if you would also include a QHD comparison chart for the laptops that you’ve tested that are QHD (or QHD+), since you already have the data anyway from the game testing videos. Especially with QHD laptops becoming more common it would help a lot as a lot of people are not going to search for or just won’t find your native res testing videos for each laptop. But that’s just people being lazy.
The fuzzy part is whether to put QHD+ laptops in the same chart or to only put their 1440p testing results in there. Putting 1600p (L5P) against 1440p (G15) is more practical because that’s what people will be playing at and the difference isn’t that much, but 1440p vs 1440p is more analytically correct.
Also a personal request from me would be to have a hybrid vs hybrid and dGPU vs dGPU (which you show occasionally on SOTR) chart but that is a crap ton of work and you already do so much. That’s kinda why I started making these videos actually because I couldn’t find that info from any reviewer.
Just asking for people's opinions here, do you think the 3060 model of the G15 is worth considering? There's a massive price gap between the 3060 and 3070 model where I live for some reason. Though this might and will probably change as time goes by I'm not sure if I can wait that long so I'd like to know if it's still a good laptop overall
I just bought one and wondering the same thing, waiting for it to come in the mail...
@Josh Cravey i was gonna buy a laptop in best buy but here was a payement problem. Next week i find this laptop for less money since it was on sale, i really don’t understand laptops much but this one was a 3060 not a 3070. It was still all good tho. In robloxit ran 138+ fps with an unlocker since the luncher maxes at 60. In other games that in downloading soon like forza. I seen many videos and im amazed that it was running about 100+ I know really Greatful that payment problem happened since i got this absolute beast. I started seeing reviews yesterday and even tho there is many competition for other laptops. This laptop was having many better performance and is on bar with many laptops. I love your channel and I will see more of your reviews on other laptops or maybe this one. Thank you for making this amazing, well detailed review.
Really appreciate that!! :) glad it’s going well for you!
In my country lenovo legion 5 pro with ryzen 5 costs 1500 dollars and zephyrus About 600 more. So comparing them as for their specs and price with zephyrus only having 80 - 100 w power limit of gpu. I think that you lost youre money, and a lot of them for laptop with little better cpu but a lot worse gpu which will effect youre fps count.
Just ordered my g15 yesterday after a lot of consideration and research, for me the portability, better design and the battery life are more important than getting 5-10 more frames. Soldered ram is not something you wanna see in a laptop at this price range but you have to compromise somewhere and 16 gigs is plenty for me for the foreseeable future. I intend to keep this device for a long time say 4-5 years and when we start seeing more thin and light gaming laptops in the market (probably soon) the legion 5 pro will quickly start looking dated. I mean I would be embarrassed to carry around that huge thing with me when there are other options out there. I would have gone for the M 16 but it is way too expensive in my region in comparison to these two. Great video, thanks.
Thank you! I feel the same way 😆
It’s cool , but no web cam is the reason why I can’t take it (((
@@user-Nikitamagnifica I can understand that. The good thing though is the G15 has the Asus Link software which utilizes your phone as a webcam. It works really well!
@@JoshCravesTech its a костыль . Hope asus will make model with the Same specs but also with web cam
@@user-Nikitamagnifica I have a good feeling there will be a G16 in the near future that will be the AMD version of their M16.
Not sure if you’re still replying to these, but I’ve always wanted the g15, I’ve been recommended the legion but I’ve had some pretty bad experiences with the zephyrous laptops. Specifically the amount of heat they produce, we had to return 2 of them because of the same heating issue that straight up ate the battery and throttled the graphics. But this was with the g14, and just today we visited a Best Buy and I could literally feel both of the zephyrous laptops on display heating the hell out. did you have any of these issues on your g15? If so what did you do to fix them? Ty
Wow, that’s crazy. I’ve actually never heard of that happening. Never had heat issues with mine. There is a commonly done thing where some people will disable turbo boost to reduce CPU temperatures by about 10-20 degrees with basically no loss in performance. However, Ryzen 5000 CPUs can easily handle temps in the 90s and these GPUs can handle temps in the 80s without throttling or overheating. I wouldn’t worry about it personally! They have great cooling for the small chassis
Thank you for the video! I’m disabled and I live on a budget at this point I have no income at all but recently I bought an Asus TUF gaming laptop I’ll tell you what it runs pretty good for a cheaper laptop! Especially when I hook it to an external monitor or my TV it’s blazing fast I think it’s just got like it the Nvidia GeForce and an I five but it runs pretty good when you hook it to an external monitor it blew my mind! When I save up one of these days once my disability goes through I’m going to get the one you just mentioned I’m going to try! And I will give this one to my daughter which, she pretty much can have it all the time anyway now lol but it’s nice when you You have something to call your own. Thank you so much for your video!
