- Let's take a deep dive into the 2022 Asus Zephyrus G15 gaming laptop with the AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS and NVIDIA RTX 3070 Ti. While the exterior looks mostly the same as last year's, Asus made some very interesting changes this time around! We'll compare to last year's model as well as top of the line laptops from last year like the Lenovo Legion 7.
I hope you enjoyed the video! If you did, please like and subscribe to help the channel out, so I can continue making videos like these (and hopefully put them out quicker).

Just wanted to thank you for including a performance on battery section. It is nearly impossible to get this type of information from other reviews, and it is one of the main factors when I purchase a laptop. Your review has put this high on my purchase list
Just buy the X17, it's proper power and thin chassis.
This is one of the best gaming laptop review ever. You go the extra mile of configuring the different modes and exploring the best one to be used, which honestly I won't be able to figure out (if I have one). The 'from user's' perspective and additions of memes just add the extra value to the video, bravo!
Thanks so much!!
Going to pick this model up. I got the Intel 12th gen 12700h, but the damn battery is terrible. It can only manage 3 hours max with everything put on eco mode, silent mode and 20% brightness while doing youtube only and watching shows.
@@FunKaYxxD1sCO get the m16 i9 3070ti
Agree with the other comments - one of the best/most comprehensive reviews I've watched. Covering the OEM software is really useful as some have very limited functionality. Discussing undervolting and how power limits affect performance is valuable for gaming laptops and what would set similarly specced ones apart.
Thanks!
Completely underrated channel. This is the most complete laptop review I've ever seen. I'm thinking about buying one these second hand, and as someone who likes to tinker to extract maximum performance out of my machines, you've just made my life so much easier!
This is one of the best and most in depth reviews I've ever seen. Keep it up man
Dude you really went all out on this one ! A 55' video on the 2022 G15 🙏
Thank you! Yeah there was too much to cover this time 😂

Great video bro, just got my g15 today and you've been very helpful explaining all this info. Thanks!
Set the CPU options, fans as you did in the video and set GPU max temp limit to 79 and GPU remained 79 C while gaming CPU stayed between 80-90 C. Much better I think. Anyway can you do a tutorial on armoury crate for best possible settings and temps during gaming?
Great vid! You should do a full guide of everything you should do to a G15 to get the best performance
Such a helpful review and user guide! My G15 will be here on Tuesday :)
was searching everywhere for a good review on this laptop. thank you so much
Very detailed review. Nice to see you still loving your g15
Damn, dude. This was a hell of a review. Found a great deal on the 3080 version of this model and went for it based on your review. Thanks for being so thorough in this video!
Wow, I really enjoyed this review man. Excellent descriptions of each review topic, the chapters were super helpful, and I liked that you linked the relevant videos to each topic, even to other channels like Jarrod’s.
Thanks!
@@JoshCravesTech If you are still using this laptop, tell me how it is after a while, have there been any wear and tear or other defects? Some say that the G15 body is very flimsy, it feels like plastic, the paint falls off, the frame around the screen peels off due to exposure to temperatures, and the screen cover, when carried in a backpack, is easily deformed and has to be straightened. I also saw a lot of photos that the bottom of the G14 constantly cracks and pieces fall off... Are the G16 2023 and M16 2022 the same low quality?
Jarod's tests also show that the laptop is very soft.
how much different is this from l5pro ?
Looking forward to your review of the next gen man!
Awesome video. Its convincing me to get a g15 over other brands/models. Waiting a few more months to hear about the next gen video cards before pulling the trigger.
This is one of the best reviews I've ever seen. thank you for your work. :)
Thanks, i switched over from a Legion 5 Pro with a 6800H 3070 to this for the same price, this and your older legion vs Zephyrus g15 video really helped me get perspective.
That’s awesome!!
I have the 2022 3070ti version for 1.5months already, and at first I experienced high temp issue but I fix it by disabling the cpu boost for both Silent and Performance, for Turbo I let it as it is. Next Issue I encountered is I get a bluescreen on somegames(Apex Legends) when I update it to the latest the drivers using Nvidia GeForce, fix for this is to uninstall the driver and use MyAsus for updating Graphics Card driver instead.
Nice review Josh, Just picked this up for my work laptop but it will be on an elevated laptop stand and plugged into a 32" Gaming monitor the vast majority of the time. Replacing a 2020 MSI GE75. Appreciate the detail. Ended up getting it for $1350 from BBY on an open box but literally never turned on. Should be an excellent gaming laptop.
You got an awesome deal! Good stuff, enjoy!
Great review as usual, for me I will hold on to my 2021 model, maybe will consider upgrading next generation
I’ve never watched a 1 hr laptop review until now, love the way you talk about it, more like a regular person, unlike some other famous CZcamsrs that only tell you what they want you to hear
I really appreciate that, thanks for watching!
Respect for the sheer work on this review, best bar none. You ve got a new sub ! The tips, undervolting hint, and most important the igpu video out on a specific USB c ... A piece of info that no one gives or test....
The most indepth review of this laptop out there. Excellent work. I've had this laptop for about a month now and aside from the bug it had with turbo mode I've had a great experience, it is the perfect laptop. (For anyone having thr turbo mode bug just use manual, performance or silent until they fix it)
Agreed! Thanks for watching! 👍
Amazing review. The most complete. It's also clearly visible that the author spent really much time with machine being described. Not like the rest of reviewers who owns the laptop for a week or two and acting like experts.
Thanks much for the quality & detail of this review. It helped a ton with making a decision
Dang, great review! Thanks very much!
Love the editing 😂 great video 👍😎
Amazing review! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Josh. I run A g15 3080. I learnt so much from your video. Many thanks dude
Amazing overview of G15! I wonder is there any stability issues from switching the boot drive to another drive which I assumed u did.

@@JoshCravesTech Hello.
1. If you carefully press the keys along the edges, will there be idle presses?
2. And did I understand correctly that in general the G16 feels like a tightly assembled device and does not give the feeling of easily deformed cheap plastic? For example, L5pro feels strong.
3. Do the G15/M16 2022 and G16 2023 cases feel the same in terms of the quality of the case? Thank you.
@@e0236 pressing on the outer edges of the keys? Im not sure, but I very rarely make typing mistakes on Zephyrus laptops which is usually a good sign that the keys are picking up each press as they should.
2. Yes, it feels VERY premium. The Legion 5 Pro is heavier and feels more cheap to me than the Zephyrus.
3. And yes the 2022 G15 and 2023 G14 feel like the same quality chassis. Very sturdy for how light they are!
Just bought it G15, R7-6800H, RAM 32GB, 1T, RTX 3080 ...what an amazing machine..it is not even the gaming laptop, it is a real big boy's toy, what an amazing performace and quality + a lot of options to personalize and set up in your unique way. Let me share some comments. I was almost decided to purchase Legion 5 Pro , but fortunatelly I have changed my mind.
Pro : Super screen, fan noise at 0 when idle, full control of fans !!!! amazing, lot of other laptops do have any control on fans speed,s and noise level. If we are talking about noise : no noise when browsing, working, writing, watching films, etc.... When playing you have full control on performance/noise level, you can set your own preferences. The laptop is not hot as expected as it is very thin and premum build (super look and feel aka Macbook quality feeling). I see Asus have made a good job on it.
Cons : Sorry I do not see at that moment any improtant
For summary :
SCREEN - awsome, very bright, great colors+you can personalise them, fast response, 15'6 is really enough
Noise : no noise in idle (even where fans are turninga bit), even in stress is very acceptable, (all gaming laptops are loud, but or this one I was positively suprised)
HOT : When working , browising, you feel a bit of heet of the keyboard, but really acceptable (I expected much worse caus of very strong processor and GPU) , when playing hotter, but like any other gaming laptop ,
GPU : wow, what a performance, not very high teperatures + you can control it manually, but you can still be fine with AMD one, you can even play older games using it
TOUCHPAD : the best i ever seen ,
QUALITY : very premium build,, not expected that , in the coffe shop you are a king with it, everyboddy is interested in, cause most of coffe laptops are Macs
SOUND : Very nice quality, not like in headphones, but very clear and quite loud if you want
OVERAL : it is not a laptop for HARD players (go for Legion Pro), but it is real portable media/fun/games center with full of interesting features and super reserve of power and performance, (like 250HP car in the city, you know what you have , but you do not show that) you can spend hours on your personal settings if you want . you are buying in reality two laptops : 1) for normal user/creator and in the same time 2) you have huge gaming possibility with this machine if you want
Thanks to Josh for the reviews and tests, I really share his point of view. Good work Josh !
...still discovering all other functions of this outstanding machine.....
PS : 3DMark Time Spy Score :
Overal : 11.405 (Excellent)
CPU : 10.412
GPU : 11.601
Model : Asus Zephyrus G15
GPU : RTX 3080
CPU : R7 6800H
RAM : 16 (on board) + 16 = 32
HD : WD 1T
Price paid (in Poland) : 1.600$ (american dollars) or 1.500 euro

Man,first of all the work you put in making this video is so huge..a 55 min video🤯.
Can you also make a video about asus Zephyrus M16 .Awesome man....keep it up⁶
Thank you! I don’t have an M16 but will consider it!
Such an informative review 😘
IF ANYBODY COULD HELP ME OUT I’D APPRECIATE IT. I just got my first ever gaming laptop(rog m16), pretty good specs I’d say but since I’ve had it for a week now, when I go into Nvidia GeForce experience and try to download an update it says it has for me, it keeps saying “driver download failed”… what’s going on here? I’m not the most computer savvy guy so I need some help lol
Hey Josh, will you be uploading an updated optimization guide for the 2022 Zephyrus G15?
Great review😎 I love this laptop
Hi Josh, I just bought this piece of hardware as well here in Europe with the 240hz panel, and I wanted to ask you some questions: Did you find the chassis hot while playing? For me, it can hit 55-60°C just below the screen bezel and almost burn my fingers. I have also noticed after playing for several hours, the screen has some dead pixels that roll back after a while.
Besides this, I have no other complaints about this incredible laptop, which will be very useful for my engineering studies.
Good video, btw. I really appreciate all the work you're doing on this Zephyrus lineup, as you were the one who sold me the G15 with your video from last year. Thank you for this!
The area above the function keys is not meant to be touched! That is by design. If the regular keys are uncomfortably hot then that’s a different story, that shouldn’t happen. Also the screen getting dead pixels is a bit strange, but if they go away that’s good lol. I’ve never had that happen on mine.
It is such a great laptop overall though, just make sure to act on anything that you feel might be a defect before your warranty expires!
What only 5 k subs ! Wtf amazing review 👍
Thank you!
great review! im still a bit confused with the AATU, you could do an extra video on that. by the way i flashed my 3070Ti just to test it out and it worked well in gamed that didnt max out the GPU. with the 150watts bios and i think there are others out there aswell ;)
AATU is definitely confusing, but it’s nice. I will definitely make a dedicated video on it. Is there a new version of nvflash? Haven’t seen anyone do it on a Ti GPU yet. I haven’t tried yet though either.
@@JoshCravesTech i tried it. it works but i havent been testing it too long. youre limited to 200 watts so it made the system stutter when i got into the limits. maybe it works with a different powersupply or limiting the CPU
You made me very happy with my 2021 model, if only for the battery life. I hope whatever needs to get sorted happens quick.
Yeah, if battery is the biggest concern then the 2021 model is the one to keep!
@@JoshCravesTech It's strange to me because the new processor’s supposed to be more efficient right? Is it just not optimized or something?
@@kirtmanwaring3629 yes, it is more efficient. But for some reason the wattage used doing basic tasks is a little higher and it’s hard to find a source. Could even be a random driver like the Radeon driver or Wi-Fi card. There’s also the Gen4 SSD which uses a little more power. I don’t think anyone has fully figured it out yet.
Great review mate. Should I get this one or the Msi gp66 leopard I7 11800 rtx 3080?
Very different device! You're not going to get good battery life from the GP66 firstly. It's also chunkier, bigger power brick, worse display, louder fans, but will perform 10-20% better in games. In my opinion, unless it's super cheap I wouldn't even consider it.
Thanks for the effort, please make sure you decrease the blur in the video for more clarity.
Thanks!
Great review Josh! But how about the display, specifically with a low nits? What if you want to work on cafe or a building with lots of windows?
It’s plenty bright for most uses. Even with the sun coming in my windows I haven’t really had any major issues seeing what’s on the screen.
Nice. I've got a 2021 model and will need a hella good excuse to upgrade lol so I'm waiting for the 4000 series laptop GPUs to upgrade.
I love the minimalist design
were you able to run external display with USB-C on battery on Eco-mode?? for me it always says it need to be in optimised mode even i connect to the port that is connected to iGPU, battery life for me also 6-7 hrs in casual work
just found this by chance, going to try my luck at an open box g15 with the 3060 at best buy for only $640. 🤞 great video!
That’s super cheap! Very cool, thanks for watching!
Great video. I'm getting better battery life after updating my AMD drivers from AMD, an extra 2 hours but YMMV. And I pulled off the metal plates that are attached to the intake grills. They were blocking intake by ~20%. Obviously this isn't advised but it did lower my temps a bit and the whistle fan noise is better
What is Ymmv
@@babitasaha6655 your mileage may vary
@@ItsNotAProblem alright
How much battery do you get just watching video streaming. CZcams, Amazon ect.
@@FunKaYxxD1sCO 97.83 hours. Watching CZcams nearly triples the gigawatts/hour to 262.343434 battery/plonk-units per ohm. This is due to custom cortisol-saturation and dopamine response negative-feedback loops built into the engagement algorithms of limits on speech by Alphabet companies, but helps the laptop top out at over 5,342 teraflops per battery-hour-micrometer-quantic. Hope this helps.
It was one of the most honest and valuable reviews I have seen in a while.
Thanks so much!
Seriously amazing video
Thank you!!
Awesome video! hmm, do the PD type-c charging in this laptop directly supply to the board or will only charging the battery?
Oh gosh, I don’t remember but I think it’s direct to the board but it will discharge the battery a bit if you’re using more wattage than what you’re supplying
@@JoshCravesTech Thanks for the reply! I just brought one for myself. xD
Cheers Josh! I just saw this same laptop for $1199 at Best Buy with the R9 + RTX 3060 configuration. I think it's a very good price, but what makes me worry is the reviews where they mention how lousy the QC is. What do you think?

(please reply) will you be doing thr same gpu vbios mods on this laptop too knowing its AMD, because i went through all your videos but my laptop unfortunately had RX6800m g15 advantage edition. Hey man love your video, its why I went for the g15 2022 3080. Temp is pretty good around 75C and up to around 80C after 2hrs of gaming but somehow I cant get it to hit 240fps in Valorant, CS, R6 no matter what I do. Drop the settings and res in game only decreases gpu power consumption, tried everything with Ghelper, Nvidia control panel, Windows graphics but still no luck, tried HWiNFO and Msi afterburner but everything is normal. All the review videos I watched hit 300+ fps in these games but mine only around 140-200 (180 most of the time) Im still learning English so I hope you can read this easily.
Valorant is very dependent on your CPU. Did you disable cpu turbo boost by chance? Or did you lower your CPU wattage at all? Is your mux switch active? Is there any setting in Valorant that unlocks fps, like is it hitting an fps limit? I know Apex Legends for example you have to add a setting in the launch options to increase the fps limit.
Spot on as always! Very insightful. And thank you for explaining the manual mode sliders function (I get asked that all the time) and asus does a very poor job of explaining it to majority of the people who purchased this years lineup or even previous iterations.
I agree, they need an Armoury Crate tutorial built into Armoury Crate lol.
Great review, Asus needs to put you on their payroll. That was very in depth.

Wooooow! This review rocks!!!!
New to pc gaming and bought one of these. Seems like I made a decent purchase. Coooo
You mentioned that you bought it from bestbuy, did you trade your previous one in? Or did you just sell it on marketplace or something? I’m debating where to sell my prebuilt pc so I can have enough to buy this laptop :p
Yeah I sold the old one on marketplace!
I just got the g15 it 3060. I super new to all this gpu and cpu stuff. I just wanna know how to play my games without having my laptop getting super hot lol. But I love this video! And appreciate you! Do you do videos explaining all the cpu/gpu stuff to people like me who is fairly new to learning?
For the most part, you don’t need to worry about temperatures since these laptops are designed to handle it, but yes I do have a video that talks about some things you can do: czcams.com/video/_u0o4vk08V4/video.html
Is it worth upgrading from 2021 to 2022? It's so expensive so I'm hesitant, but the MUX switch sounds so good on paper. But then again I'd rather buy a PC. So it's either sell 2021 and upgrade to 2022. Or save up and buy a PC. Any advice? I love the G15 it's so compact and powerful and it looks absolutely stunning.
Just keep mux on for when gaming and plugged in. And swap to eco after unplug and fully charged. It does add more performance
what would you choose between a g15 with 6800HS, RTX 3060, 24GB Ram for 1940Euro or g15 with 6800HS, RTX 3070ti, 16GB Ram for 400Euro more? (both with 1tb ssd and 1440p diplay)

Nice vid! Do you recc taking 2021 3080 Legion 7i at ~$2350 or 2022 G15 3070ti at ~$2000?
I had the 2021 Legion 7i and my biggest problem with it was how noisy it was. Fans were always going, even in silent mode. The difference in performance will not be too much. I think the 2022 G15 is a better deal at those prices.
Thank you !!!
Nice review 👍. How many external displays can you connect to this?
You could theoretically connect at least 3 displays, one from each output. However, depending on the resolution and refresh rates, you could likely connect more using a high bandwidth hub of some sort
@@JoshCravesTech Okay thanks mate.

I'm planning to get the rtx 3060 g15 for 1150 usd where I live, then move to another country for university shortly after and I'm worried that if I get QC issues, I might not be able to rma. Should I buy it from a different vendor after moving or is it okay to make the move now? I don't really know much about warranty so I'm quite torn on this
Hey Josh, thanks for the great review. Would you recommend this over 2021 zephyrus 3070 which is 600$ cheaper now?
If there’s a $600 price difference then no. But I’ve seen the new one go on sale here in the states for nearly the same price as the 2021 model. So if your region has sales like that sometimes then go for the 2022. If not then go for the 2021!
@@JoshCravesTech it's not that 2022 version is expensive. Its the 2021 version being a lot cheaper. Thanks for the reply!
Hey Josh, you said in previous video that adding a 16gb ram would be a sweet spot for the laptop, so does it also applies for 2022 model or we can go with 32gb ram stick for upgrade ? What will be better?
Since each stick runs in dual channel independently, then adding a 32gb stick would be better than doing so on the 2021 model! I still stick with 24gb total but 40gb total seems to run great!
@@JoshCravesTech Thanks Sir🤗
I have 2021 model and still happy with that (using an external monitor). I might skip zen 4 too and eyeing for zen 5 or 14th gen intel with rdna 4.
Hey, I know this video is old but have you had any problem with the keyboard (keys stop working)? I was looking on eBay and seems like Asus laptops have keyboard problems more than other brands. Seems like an uncommon point of failure.
Like your videos, was thinking between a g14 (2022) g15(2022), m16(2022) or....a x14 lol kinda which would I recommend
I do 3d work and wanna game as well.
Any of those but the x14 will do great! G14 and M16 have a better, brighter screen than the G15. M16 is hotter and louder and more prone to fingerprints. G14 is pretty tiny, runs a bit warm, and cannot take advantage of Nvidia GPU features like DLSS and ray tracing. The x14 from Alienware is just a bad laptop and shouldn’t exist.
Massive respect Josh for the detailed video! I recently got this beast and wanted to know if you have any tips on how to make your battery (and laptop) last long? I mean, do you have any (battery?) settings that you always leave on/off or care routine or sth that you would consider necessary for a longer battery (and laptop in general) life? I would appreciate any advice!
Thanks! I usually just keep it on silent mode with cpu boost turned off for best battery life. Keyboard lights on lowest setting, and screen brightness under half if possible. This is a guide from the G15 subreddit for more advanced settings: www.reddit.com/r/ZephyrusG15/comments/w5r7q3/zephyrus_g15_2022_battery_life/ih9vgxk/?context=3
@@JoshCravesTech Thank you!! :)
@@milobilo_ Undervolt the GPU with MSI Afterburner for gaming. I got the same 2022 G15 RTX 3080 model and it dropped the temps by 5°C. Also disable AMD's CPU Boost for the different profiles and easily enjoy yet another -5°C difference when gaming with little to no performance loss. I leaved the boost on for turbo as we nerver know when I might need full on beast mode lol. Disabling the AMD Boost feature will also save you quite some battery life too when unplugged. You can also change the CPU energy management but that's minimal gain when compared to all the rest. Cheers !
Hi Josh! Would you pick this one over the X16 with 3060? Thanks!
Personally yes, since it has about 15-20% more GPU performance in games over the 3060 model. But the 3060 is no slouch and still performs very well! So it’s up to what you think you’ll need.
Hey josh, I heard from a lot of people that got the asus g15 with rtx 3060 model had some heating issues. For all the other models they didn’t have the same heating issues. Is this true?
I don’t see how the 3060 could have heating issues when it’s a lower performing GPU. Not sure on that one! Should hit about the same temps as you see here
This was a surprisingly good review. So USB 4 certification should enable external GPU support right? That should enable around 10 or 15 years life for this laptop assuming the CPU and everything else holds up well.
Exactly!
@@JoshCravesTech after all the complaints I have seen on Reddit about ASUS laptops and board repairs I'm having second thoughts on purchasing one. Can you attest to ASUS build quality of the motherboard? Would like to see what your one looks like under the microscope and how it compares with others I've seen.
@@slapnut892 I can’t attest specifically to the motherboard, no. But again I think it’s just one of those things where people who have problems are going to post a lot more frequently than those who don’t have problems. You can see this on pretty much any laptop forum you visit. Usually just more posts if the laptop sells more units. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, but they offer extended warranties too for peace of mind. All I can say is I’ve had 4 Asus ROG devices for testing and daily use across 2-3 years now and they’ve all been perfect.
15:53, I have seen many MSI users who used coolerboost complaining about their fans failure . Maxing out fan will damage it sooner .
Great video, unfortunately my unit was not so perfect it has problem with the motherboard. Asus is in the middle of replacing it.
Can you post all your manual settings in your armoury crate?
Hi, what OSD app are you using, i tried GPU Tweak iii but it shows CPU temp 0 degrees on display when gaming....
And my GPU benchmark score 9800 and CPU 8050 with turbo mode with 3DMARK - CPU a bit low isnt?
Use MSI Afterburner. Your GPU score looks good, but yeah CPU is a little low unless you did something to limit it like disable turbo boost or something.
does the best buy version have international warranty?
That sweet sweet new RDNA 2 0:46
trying to decide between this and m16 is so hard
Would you be able to share your fan curve via link or something?
you can push memory oc to +700mhz easily its very stable, I started seeing issues around 1000mhz range. The desktop versions can go even higher
Yeah depends on silicon lottery a bit but yeah I have seen people do that which is insane
