Madness in the Fantasy Caro-Kann · Training Game

  • A tactical Caro-Kann which, in the end, could have gone either way. The position was mad and we were both under a minute.
    The Fantasy variation almost always leads to sharp, tactical positions, which makes it the perfect choice for aggressive e4 players. I have struggled with it in the past, and never really chose one line to play against it. In this game I played the most common move, e6, and my opponent surprised me early on by sacrificing a pawn.
    The engine gives the game as -3 for me from that point on, but that advantage is not easy for humans to convert cosidering the complexity of the position.
    Needless to say, we both got into extreme time trouble and were below a minute when the position reached its climax. It was only a question of who would blunder last.

    Great training game with interesting ideas in the Fantasy variation. One of my sparring partner plays the Fantasy against my Caro-Kann. Very informative. Thanks!

    Wow what a game Stjepan. That rook sacrifice in the end and your quick tactical thinking with very little time left was so thrilling to see.
    I think your opponent gave himself a lot of space in the beginning with those pawn pushes. Seems like that gave his pieces a lot of mobility. You did a great job defending against that, while also trying to create some threats of your own

    On your comment early in the video ive found that the checks captures attacks method is very easy for spotting things as a beginner, however theres an extended version that says you should never end a variation with a non forcing move and this has helped me overcome some blunders while calculating variations.

    Stjepan thanks for the videos I really like this series. Interesting game, a lot of these games seems to be decided in the time trouble. I guess one interesting are to improve for you is time management especialy in the areas like move #6 where you basicaly can play anything and it is fine/taste dependant (Ne7, Nf6, Nd7, dxe4 or even b6) and took 3 minutes of the clock. In contrary next move by the opponent is very unnusual (f4) and you do not take any time at all to consider what is going on.

    Going after f4 was greedy, especially with White's rook on a7. It was a truly fascinating game, though, and listening to your live analysis was just great. Thanks for doing these games.

    at 44:55 could Stjepan go Qd1 check?
    time trouble again, probably it's worth going for more pragmatic/less creative moves in the beginning to save some minutes for when they are needed. we are witnessing lots of thought process in the beginning but almost none in the endgame.

    Great game, thought maybe going Rh4 instead to target the pawn instead of Nh4 would have been safer but way to fight through difficulties and come out with the W.

    Qb6 against the fantasy seems to be quite testing, and also scores well for black. Perhaps that's the line you're studying? ;)

    Nxb6 on move 16?! followed by c4 Bc7 b5

  • @billagap3213
    @billagap3213 Před rokem

    Correct me if I am wrong but in 47.20 your opponent has Qc8 with an inevitable mate threat. You can't go Qa6 because then he moves his king to b3 and he pins your queen to your king. Am i right people?
    Also if you take the pawn on c6 with your queen then again king b3 wins for him.

    • @QuentonBlache
      @QuentonBlache Před rokem

      I believe Qc8 leads to a perpetual for black due to Qxa2+ Kb5 Qd5+ Ka4 Qa2+ and so on
