Hi guys, Matt here. Just wanted to make sure a few parts in the video were clarified here:
- DAS changed the ‘camber levels’ not camber itself. More specifically the toe.
- Aston Martin have changed their chassis with their development tokens so green Mercedes is a tad unfair 😜
- DAS means Dual Axis Steering System but apparently I just didn’t fancy saying ‘steering’ in the voiceover 🤦🏻♂️
Thanks guys & gals and hope you enjoyed the rest of the video!
Cheers Matt, I was wondering about that!
It didnt change the camber level. Only the toe. But if the toe is changed, the camber changes slightly with it.
F1 themselves posted an article saying it changed the camber levels 😅
@@WTF1official they also say that adding tight race courses will improve overtaking. So not sure they know what theyre talking about. Toe is the degrees the wheel sticks out inside or outside. Camber is the degrees the wheel sticks out sideways or inways
"Looking from the front or back of the car btw"
1. Aston Martin spent their tokens this year on making a new chassis, so it really isn’t a “green Mercedes”
2. DAS stands for “Dual Axis Steering,” not “Duel Axis System”
3. DAS changed the toe of the front wheels, not the camber
I just wanted to put these corrections here for people to see, but generally, good video.
Absolutely. I was gonna comment on the “DAS camber” because especially DTS highlighted it. A genius innovation, it’s so cool to see the tyres toe in and out by that wheel movement.
Perhaps HAM and BOT are too used to DAS and will be inhibited by its absence? Who knows.
Everything on wtf1 is messed up these days!
and i am subscribed already. WTF1 is seriously heading into fake news territory at this point
Wasn't the Aston monocoque changed to the 2019 Mercedes monocoque? 🤔
u are completely right, WTF1 has been completely shit these days.
Watching this just after F1 uploaded their own video
What timing eh 😂
Master 🅱️lan
@@WTF1official yepppp
Coincidence? I think not. Look out for the other channels today or tomorrow as well 😂
Same
I really needed this video.
Well said Matt's fake account!! 💪
Me to
agree with everything but your description of the new 2021 AM. They have a new monocoque which they spent their tokens on, completely reshaping the bodywork, sidepods and they're getting new rear suspension for 2021 as well. It's not a 2019 merc anymore and they're clearly going their own direction with development now.
2:20 the chassis is new and the car is not a green mercedes as has been said by Sam Collins
As an Archer: We sometimes use bamboo in the core of the bow wings surrounded by carbon. It makes the bow smoother and more stable when firing it.
Yeah but this aint arching is it bruv
@@sebastiannilsson1734 Archery isn't arching is it bruv,
He was making the point that the teams could incorporate bamboo into the cars if they really wanted to.
Don't be a dick.
@@sebastiannilsson1734 it's not like it was painfully obvious the dude was saying it is common to mix bamboo with carbon fiber with tangible mechanical advantages... Oh wait, he was
"Thoughts on the floor?"
"It's good to stand on"
Shit had me dying
doesnt DAS change the toe? you lads said camber
Ma infatti deciso me hanno sbagliato
Yeah pretty sure it changed toe....not camber
Yeah, it changes the toe.
If it would change the camber, it would also change the ride height when used. It would then qualify as movable aerodynamic parts part and be downright illegal.
Yeah it was a mistake
You forgot sprint races, the only thing that ruins it all
Still watching this video even though you already know everything...
Everything you need to know for the 2021 season :
DAS ChAnGe ThE "CaMbEr" Of TyReS
yeah i thought it was the toe , right?
Yup it was the toe/caster. (How much the front of the steering tires are pointed inward or outwards)
@@GARBO96 Just toe, not caster. Caster is the angle of the steering axis in relation to the ground (exactly perpendicular being 0deg caster).
2:35 Old = Kimi 😂
“Good OLD camera”
WTF1: shows Kimi 😭😭😭
Great video, as always!👍
Great channnel, can't wait for it hit 1 million subs
The best part of the video was the boi vibin' during the maths at the beginning.
I love your vids, always informative and good fun to watch
Awesome video. Can you perhaps do a video about the sprint race weekends? Still a little confusing to me.
There's also sprint races now, don't forget to mention that🙃
Only for a couple of races though supposedly
@Micah No, it's probably without reversed grid
@Micah Friday qualy makes grid for sprint
Sprint race results make the grid for the grand Prix on Sunday
I highly doubt that
@@danielchecketts3194 this is exactly What's happening look it up
Nice to see your Uni in the background ;)
( 3:11 - scene where Tommy appears on Mac screen)
Love your vids!
Thanks for the vids
DAS changed toe not camber! Also, AM literally has a new chassis and crash structure this year, definitely their own car. Thanks for the video!
Where can I watch the races? Don't have cable and was wondering if I could watch online
Brilliant! Thanks, I needed that.
Hemp can be super strong. I believe back in the day car body work was made of a strong hemp like mixture . Strong , light , Green.
2:54 It didn't specifically change the camber, just the Toe, but since the wheels already had negative camber anyways the camber would adjust minimally. Ultimately though the main reason for das was toe.
For those that aren't as familiar with car terms:
Camber is the tilt of the wheels when looking from a front angle, negative camber is when the bottoms are sloped out, which is what F1 cars have. When the body of a car rolls to the outside through corners due to momentum, a proper camber setup will align the outside wheel perfectly perpendicular to the road to allow for maximum grip through the corner. This is not adjustable throughout the lap in an F1 car, only by the mechanics in the garage to the driver's liking.
Toe is the tilt of the wheels when looking from a top down angle. Positive toe is when the fronts of the front wheels or rears of the rear wheels are facing inwards, which is what F1 cars have in the front (I don't think rear wheels on F1 cars have any toe, most cars don't in the rear). Slight negative toe increases turning stability by allowing the inside wheel to turn more intensely than the outside wheel to account for a tighter radius. Positive toe allows for stability down the straights and better tire heating by forcing more road onto the outsides of the tire, because the insides of the tire are closer to the ground due to camber.
For DAS, when the drivers pulled the wheel towards them, which they would do on the straights it would increase toe allowing for more stability, then they would push the wheel out to decrease positive toe in the corners for better turning.
And for the record the third thing is caster, when the wheels are tilted from a side angle, although its a wheel so this really only is effective in terms of the suspension. F1 cars have positive caster on their front wheels. Unless you're in a 918 or something with four wheel steering caster doesn't really apply to the rear wheels because they don't turn, only spin. If you want to get really really really technical, you could use caster to change the angle of the force from the rear wheel onto the car, but that is beside the point. Positive caster means the top of the suspension is tilted towards the middle of the car, meaning as the wheel turns in more, the camber increases and moves toward a more foreword direction, which better goes against the changing forces of the car as it turns tighter through a corner.
In reality DAS is a bit of a misleading title because the tires still only turn on one axis, the vertical axis, as in side to side. They just have two ways of turning, as in they can turn together to turn the car, or against each other to change the toe.
I love the reduction of time for practice sessions the most enjoyable races are usually ones that give the teams less data and hopefully it will mean we could get more upsets over the season
I appreciate this immensely. I don't think giving the teams less information about these cars while making them slower will be beneficial. I think it'll just make a mess with more crashes as drivers push for the limit but it isn't explicitly stated so it'll be a frequently explored area
You got me, I finally subscribed
2:55 DAS didn’t not change the camber angle but it changed the toe angle
i dont know how can they miss in something so elemental and that has been talked during a whole year...
He corrected it already on the pinned comment.
The hemp and flax is being used like kevlar to help with how the body work it made as they don't shatter like like carbon fibre is now
Both you and the official F1 channel uploaded similar videos!
"You'll have all the information you've ever dreamed of by the end of this video"
I'm still waiting for those 6 winning lottery numbers Matt!
3:43 The budget cap came earlier this year and the teams will only then be allowed to start the car for 2022.
Very entertaining! Love all the new meme graphics. I hope to see a bamboo car! Lol! Gilligan s Island style
Also wasnt there talks about them trying out sprint race qualifying this year at a few tracks.
Hemp can be used to create a substance with similar characteristics as carbon fibre, bamboo can be used to create very strong and absorbant, although i doubt the second is useful in f1 lol, fabrics. It can also be used to create light fluid tight containers and tanks, both are also very fire resistant once developed into other phases. I suspect both will be used for race suits and helmets also.
2:47 No, Dual Axis Steering !
Fantastic intel
Personally I loved the price cap thing I would love to see some close competition for the championship between all teams
Man, the editing in this video is going to give me a seizure.
I'm not alone
1:20 in, and I'm out.
The style of editing they use should have died 6 years ago. Half of it is oversized subtitles.
All this effort into bullshit graphics but no effort into basic factchecking. “DAS ChAnGeS cAmBeR!”
Last I checked wasn't das for castor not camber camber is the angle of the contact patch to the ground caster is how much the front of the wheels lean in or out front as in the side of the wheel that points forward
2:55 is a mistake. It's not camber levels, It's TOE angle, which is basically which direction the wheels are pointing , Inwards at the front, or outwards, towards the sides
Would love for someone to go into depth about how those sustainable materials might change the sport and can be used and function better than the traditional ones
I think the drivers and teams should get to at least 1 set of all 5 compounds of tyre for every race, it would bring a whole new element of strategy into the weekend.
Do you use the very softest tyre on your Q3 run going for the pole or do you use it in the race during a safety car near the end perhaps for a mega tyre advantage over your opponents or for the midfield teams or back markers do you use it on your Q2 run to make it into Q3 knowing you have to start the race on it but to get your sponsors some airtime by getting into Q3 and starting higher up the order on a Sunday? And by using the very softest tyre on a Q2 run you could then pit during the race to the very hardest tyre and just do a 1 stop race where as others might make 2 or 3 stops and gain yourself track position that way, especially at a track like Monaco.
It would make for far better entertainment IMO, and I don't understand why they say that the fans would struggle to understand the tyre compounds, you learn to count to 5 and learn what different colours mean when you are 3, 4 or 5 years old, I'm sure adults and even kids watching can recognise that a pink rimmed tyre means it's the very softest one they can use.
Something I’m genuinely curious about is if the new regs has affected Mercedes’ low rake concept, Mercedes being Mercedes should have seen this coming and adapted accordingly. I wonder if the 2021 car’s instability issue is stemming from Mercedes being stubborn in their low rake mindset and not adapting to the situation that evolved around them.
Yes I know we haven’t had a single race yet, but it’s just a thought of mine.
There were suggestions during the testing broadcast that Red bull have adapted better to the floor changes due to their high rake. I wouldn't be too down on merc, they'll be fine and also you can't just change the rake of the car anytime. Takes a ton of development and with the chassis freeze probably wasn't possible for them to change it.
Love the cardboard car. Is there a template to make one? Be a great project!
0:30 Eagle eye noticed a lot more than that 🦅
Not sure how much attention this will get but hemp can be used to make body components, is pretty light and strong
I saw The Race channel, they said despite its same front wing as Merc, Aston is a brand new car because the chassi is new
I'd love to see the hemp exhaust shields catching on fire. That would add whole another layer of interaction with F1 =)
3:10 That’s also The Class 43 Intercity 125 HST, Also the Worlds Fastest Diesel Train, What a Coincidence.
2:52 i'm pretty sure it was toe that was changed with DAS not camber
2:56 Was it camber? Or was it toe angle they were changing?
Pretty sure Sam Collins said AM is using a new chassis, and that AM is the ONLY new car this year. Little strange that you're so off on this one
All of those natural materials can behave similarly to glass fibre reinforced plastic when made into a composite so thats how they'll use them, where there is glass or carbon and you don't need the strength put hemp, same density.
No mention of the Sprint Races which are to feature this year?
Coming out immediately after F1's 2021 guide. Coincidence? I think not.
A complete coincidence actually 😂
Trying to make the sport greener, but still adding more (mostly boring) races to the calender, which in turn mean more logistics and more expenses
going “green” in motorsports is ridiculous, the CO2 contribution of any motorsport is a statistical zero compared to every other source, it just makes everything more boring
travel expenses are also excluded from the cost cap i think
So do we still not know what races are having sprint race quails? How they are going to work etc?
Just going to say that at 2:23 you showed the old logo. The new one doesn’t have the semi circles on the wing
What about the sprint qualifying that will be held at Montreal, Monza, and Interlagos as a test? No mentions at all. :(
Bamboo can be used for suspension. I mean the suspension breaks easily so wouldn't see why they won't use it there.
Damn. I really liked that outro song
Hemp is one of the best materials out there, I’m sure the engineers will find a way to use it well.
Isn’t hemp illegal 😂😂
@@lohithreddy6629 in the states, no. Not sure on the legality around the world but if F1 is permitting the use of it, then I guess we know the answer.
Teams would have added 20% more downforce to compensate for 10%
Doesn’t das change the toe of the wheels not the camber?
Bamboo can be used to create a fiber that is better than glass fiber but way cheaper than carbon fiber. Some helmets are made out of it...
What about the 100km sprint quali?
The DAS changes the Toe and not the Camber if I am not wrong?
what does listed parts mean?
'Subscribe and you will be entertained" lol, I love it!
2:28
There is the Kimi's Drinks button. Somebody tell him that we found it.
2:33 so we might see inspector Seb on action again?
Matt mate DAS adjusted the Toe angle not Camber, just sayin ♥️
Let's also not forget that we have new circuits in 2021 and experiments with the sprint format. Plus a bunch of rookies, major driver changes, completely restructured teams with new names, new colors, and new owners. But that's all details of course,
Please please please make a Kimi update video since the interview you have made in partnership with shell. Was an awesome underrated interview and entertainment
2:06 ASTON POINT
Are they not doing sprint races on some tracks this season? I thought they were
Still a little curious about what a reverse grid would do for em
What about the sprint races?
Mercedes: Red Bull appear very strong this year.
Also Mercedes: *Laughs in 8th consecutive WCC and WDC*
Thanks to Drive to survive season 3 :)
2:56 ,DAS changed the toe angle, not the camber angle 😁
Flax fiber composite is an amazing material. Near carbon in weight and stiffness but much... much easier on the planet.
Das changed the TOE levels, not CAMBER. Jesus, Matty... What is this amateur hour? SMH.
chill out bro. Just Matt being matt...
It is still known as camber levels Mike, more specifically the Toe as you’ve rightly mentioned.
@@jamesxracing8111 should I be adding /s to every comment so that people like you can perceive sarcasm through text?
It's not camber, but toe in/out. Both are in different axis.
Isn't the cost cap rule already in place? Many teams have already started developing the '22 car last year or even earlier and have clear advantage tho
What impact does reducing the downforce of cars have on the overall race?
Less downforce = less dirty air
Less dirty air = cars can follow each other better
Your memes are hilarious.
I thought aston martin was the only team to change the chassis and crash structure?
They were. This is a bit poor researched if I am honest.
I think it's silly that they have to use harder compounds because teams keep ignoring the minimal recommended tire pressures.
You wanna risk a blowout that's on you.
Will they do the spirit race
Aaah I need it to start NOOW!!!!
Wait the Das changed the toe and not the camber right??
Ok so there are cost caps, but are there also cap floors like in American sports?
Forgot about the sprint races
Have you seen Aston Martin’s car? It’s completely different to a Mercedes...
