Hands down you are without a doubt the king of boombox and electronic restoration. God bless you and keep doing what you do. You should change your name to Teddy Midas because everything you touch turns to gold.
Resurrected from the DEAD,repairing an old product is more challenging than making a new one you have a deep knowledge about this Japanese SHARP GF 777 its a Legend We had one of these in the 80s and now it's long gone cannot be repaired the technicians says, but I've seen the talent you have got GOOD LUCK.
good job!!, also that you hurt your head to find the failure of the deck's, but it was worth the hours, time, perseverance and patience to go very well, in addition to the component speakers was much improved the bass. excellent work teddy. Greetings from Chile and also thanks for teaching to restore eighties stereos radios.
Thank you for your compliment on my work. It was a long journey for me from the start to end of this restoration. But as you said, I learned many things from this one. There are tons of 80's monsters out there, and I hope many of them will be saved by someone;s hand!
I agree. Most of the time I do not replace the cap if both left and right sound level is normal. But if I replace the cap, the sound quality will jump up from good to GREAT. But I do not have time to work for each of them so far.
Just beautiful !!!! Ideal colors for a powerful ghetto blaster. i like your works!!!!! respect !!! I own a lasonic trc 931,since 1989 year, I should convert it like you🤩🤩🤩
One can only appreciate the amount of hours you pulled into this boombox! Excellent job Teddy! The muffled sound was very noticeable when you were playing cassettes - I guess there is some old and tired component in your pre-amp (before the tone-correction circuitry), most probably some capacitor. The thing is that the power amp (after aux) sounds much better when picking signal from AUX .. so it is definitely not the power amp but the pre-amp that muffles the sound .. regardless of the variation in motor speed, that is. In another of your videos I've seen you have a bunch of all kinds of belts .. where does one buy those belts? And where did you buy that sticky plate that you used to stiffen the case? What is that called in English?
Hi, Nicolae. Thank you for the great input. Next time I may look into the pre-amp parts you mentioned whenever i have some muffled sound problem. Great input. The drive belts, I buy time to time from seller on ebay, or other online shop. I buy assorted belts set, mostly made in China. Some of them good, and some bad. Also I used to buy belts from Germany and it was a great quality one, but they suddenly stop selling belts. When it comes to the flat belt, there are sellers who are selling turntable needles, and they also have a different type of good quality flat belts. They will cost than assorted one, but works perfect. Finally, plastic bonder syringe like thisamzn.to/2XBJucr It will enforce the strangeness of the repaired parts. You can find many of them from many different company.
@@teddyhashee thank you for the information! I'll certainly look on Ebay for belts. Do you happen to know where I can buy a test tape? I looked for such a tape on Amazon and Ebay to no avail..
LOVE this one Teddy!!. Q: do you find big diff with new speakers, & ever have clearance issue w big magnet. Have to rewatch on higher speed, missed painting of the face.
Hi, Bobby. The original 6 speakers were contained with 2 heavy duty bass speakers in the center. When I tested sound with original speakers, the all range speaker was not so impressive, however, this bass tuned speakers were outstanding. After replacing the speakers to new one, I wanted to have more heavy bass sound like original one. Other than this, there was no problem for installing new one.
Excellent job as usual and very brave taking on that beast. Did you consider upgrading the power amplifier with a class-D to push those modern speakers harder?
Hi! Have the same device, a bit of a nightmare came up, while i was trying to change a belt to the deck 2. I put one 4 pin cable on the wrong spot (i know, my bad) and then both decks stopped working :( any ideas where i should start looking the problem ?? Already checked both of the fuses and they are Ok. The 2 pin yellow cable which leaves behind the deck buttons is power ? Might be the issue on it ? Radio still works but decks don´t.
That's how I learned how to use De-magnetizer. From far away to the head, slowly movement, and never touch the head as well as metal around the head. Wave 4 to 5 times in front of the head, then move backward slowly in order not to damage the head by the strong magnetic force.
Hello, I always follow your work, congratulations You are very good. I'm restoring a Sharp gf 767 and I'd need some advice. I remade the rubber, the deck transmission wheels and changed the rubber straps, restored 2 springs and cleaned everything. When I start the 2 decks, they work for 3.4 seconds and then they stop,as if the tape is finished...how do you advise me to intervene ? Thank you!
I saw this video 3 times now...You did a heck of a job! I want to let you know that i may need you to work on my Gf 777...i will have it in two weeks...it has a few issues
Great work. My pain was when my GF 777 was stolen from a few years ago after owning it for 15 years. If I ever get another I want you to restore it but I have one question weren't those woofers you put in too powerful for the unit if I recall from way back when I last opened mine all the speakers were 10 watts equaling out to 60 watts.
Wow, sorry to hear that your GF was stolen. Hope you will get your GF777 again. About speaker, my opinion is definitely the original speaker is best much for this one. Tow center ones were for heavy base that will create more 3D sound, in my opinion.
It always NEED much work/hours& nerves on a vintage device like this if it should play almost perfect again.... I spent a total of weeks in a row since i reparing things... :-/
This is amazing, such dedication, not for everyone it sure became a beautiful piece of ghetto blaster that aluminium sticker you used inside is for cooling? Thank you 👍
If you are talking about the white plastic parts for the FF and REW, I am not sure the 3 D printing parts would work as replacement. If I were you, I will try to duplicate it with 3D printing, then after that I would sand their surface down until to make it very smooth. It has to move as smoothly as possible.
Yess I would try to fix it but if it has a huge problem , I will not attempt or maybe I would scrap it for my new project; oh' by the way if those cassette players sound muffled try to adjust the Tape head, it has a significant screw with spring attached on it try to rotate it, there are two screws the other one is fixed while the other one for tone adjustment... enjoy
Thank you Edifier for the valuable info. I do touch the head adjustment sometime to improve the sound quality. For this 777, there are another issue from painting. The painting of the whole body including the cassette door made slight change of the touch of the head, and that was unable to adjust. Anyway, next time if I need to do the 777 or similar one to restore, I try to adjust the head if it is possible. Thank you!
@@teddyhashee Yess well you can paint it with acrylic car paint metallic , just give the spray paint one foot distance to it, so that the acrylic part will evaporate not melting the plastic
Hey teddy another genius restoration WOW. Are these Sharp boombox problematic to fix I remember the other one you restored this one seemed like triple the work I wouldn't want to know what you charged for this one lol. Did the new speakers make a big difference in sound or are they just as good as the stock sharp. Great job
The sound of the speaker, for me original bass speaker (2 of them in center) has much deeper sound than the new one. Those original bass woofers were tuned into especially heavy base. So I like original speakers sound, that's my honest opinion. Thank you for the great comment always!
Nice, don't like the colors but this is a client request I guess. One question, you paint the surface however how did you restore the labels for knobs? In the 80's there where scratch-on letters but isn't available anymore. Any exposure possible to a 'secret' how to do this? Thanks for any answer about this.
When the owner painted body, he also created labels by printing it onto the thin plastic and attached them. So the position of the labels were different from original position. So it wasn't good looking when you look them in closely. However, I saw another boombox that was done by the professional with using hydro dip painting method, it had all exact same labels transferred onto the body. I guess it was printed on the transferable sheet and put each of them as exactly same as original. Probably it costed more than a thousand just only hydro dipping and labels.
approximately 55:34 - 56:13 - I am guessing those are resonance/damping pads Teddy fitted into the case to reduce vibration/rattle from the speakers when the volume is turned up and the unit is all assembled.
