GREECE EUROVISION 2022 - REACTING TO AMANDA TENFJORD ‘DIE TOGETHER’ (FIRST LISTEN…WOW)

  • Hi guys, and welcome back to my channel! If you’re new here, my name’s Rachel, and I’m a huge Eurovision fan as well as a musician. In todays video, I reacted to Greece’s entry for Eurovision 2022: ‘Die Together’ by Amanda Tenfjord.
    Greece, after coming top ten last year, in my mind could only get better. And they did.
    WOWWWW
    That is certainly a fabulous way to open a song, with an Imogen heap style vocoder line, subtle and sweet with very ASMR-like dynamics and depth of sound. Amanda’s vocal is close to perfection.
    The way the other instruments slowly creep in and fill out the sound without you even noticing is smart, because you’re so focused on the vocals.
    The subject matter of the song is also painful to. I very nearly cried at the start and that takes a lot.
    Well done Greece for selecting this song - it’s experimental but also on the right side of accessible so it’s sure to do well. The only one tiny criticism I had was the drum beat of the second chorus, which was just a little on the generic side. But other more experimental and surprising parts of the song make up for that. Incredible!
    Initial Score: 9/10

    I loved the song ,well arranged, well sung, emotional and apparently so sweet : not exactly "greek" as atmosphere except for the hangin over "tragedy" in the lyrics. A love crisis as in the Italian song with a scandinavian chill in the intro and a greek emotional chorus with a omen of tragic solution.
    Very European !😍

    @matt_maciek Před 2 lety +31

    6:23 I love that moment too! Technically it does resolve but the resolution is postponed a beat which does the job. And it also goes from the F/A to the F# in the bass which only adds to the tension before resolving, I especially love this in the last chorus where the toms come back in, it creates a beautiful momentum! So many tasty details hidden here and the production is absolutely fantastic too! The jury’s got to appreciate that. Great reaction/review! :)

    This is the slow song Malta wishes it had, tbh. I can't say I share your enthusiasm to the same extent, and I do find that any country could have sent this, but it is a VERY solid composition by a charismatic singer, and it should score highly by all means. This song definitely have my vote. The best song not considering Italy (I'm Italian, I may have a bias on that one) which anyway is close.
    My only remark is that... well, that's two years in a row that Greece takes a foreign artist. Yes, I know that both Stefania and Amanda have Greek origin, but both live abroad and the focus of their lives and career is in Netherlands and Norway. Greece isn't Malta or San Marino, it's a medium sized country and I'm sure there is plenty of local artist who would like to represent it.

      ERT had approached around another 20 Greek singers for eurovision 2022. Then the singers submitted their songs to ERT (almost all of them were based in Greece) and the best song happened to be from Amanda. They didn't choose Amanda because she is based in Norway lol. And in general the Greek diaspora loves Eurovision (see helena paparizou she is from Sweden, Loukas Yorkas (2010) was born and raised in Germany, Kalomira (2008) was born and raised in USA, Sarbel (2007) was born and raised in the UK etc). The Greek diaspora loves Eurovision and they see Eurovision in a more "patriotic" way than the local Greek artists so they are more willing to participate and there is nothing wrong with that.

    Thank you so much for your reaction to my country's entry to the ESC this year, but "a huge change of direction for Greece"? Come on love, Greece is... notorious for the huge variety of its song genres in the contest, no other country's entries have ever had the variety of sounds the greek songs do. And this actually reflects the fact that there is absolutely no country in the whole world, where so many different genres of music are produced and cherished other than Greece. Just have a quick look to our entries to the contest and i think you will definitely agree with me. I just need to remind you a quite recent greek eurovision song, and that is "better love" in the year 2019, which was brutally underrated like almost all songs of Greece to this contest, which has unfortunately turned to a platform for promotion of political ideas in a broad sense than rewarding good music. Thank you again and wish you a recovery of your headaches soon!

    Refreshing to see a review like this and happy to see the song left an impression on you :)
    I agree with you that the drumbeat, in general, isn't the most interesting on its own. HOWEVER, I really do think it doesn't matter too much here because the drumming is so hard-hitting. Being such a vocal-reliant song, the drumming really isn't focused on for its pattern but instead of just how it fills up the sound-stage. If you'd isolate the drums of the track they'd, sure, not be very engaging rhythmically but they're just so loud and packed with punch and I really think that suits this song so well because it has quite a minimalistic instrumental otherwise. I hope you see where I'm coming from too haha :)
    Still, I get your standpoint completely. But to me, it hits JUST right!

      @ThePeaceAround  Před 2 lety

      Aw thank you :) I see your point. Idk I just would have preferred less snare, and more kick drum to change up the pattern a bit. But it is vocal reliant and that is my favourite element by far of the song 🎵

      Of course it has everything to do with Greece. Who told you it doesn't? The performer is half Greek. Part of the song is written by Greeks. The video is made by Greeks. The staging is made by Greeks. The clothes they wear are made by Greeks. Most of the production is made by Greeks. What more Greek do you want? An OPA, or a bouzouki? This song is as Greek as it gets and it doesn't need OPAs and bouzoukis.

    Hello, May I share an Old Testament Verse with you from Daniel 7:14 "And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should SERVE Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." Also, can I share Isaiah 53:5 " But HE was WOUNDED For our TRANSGRESSIONS, he was BRUISED for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His STRIPES we are HEALED."
    God the Father loves you so much that He sent Holy Sinless Jesus (His Holy Son) to earth to be born of a virgin.Then, to grow up & die on a cross for our sins. He was in the tomb for 3 days, then Father God raised Holy and Sinless Jesus Christ (Y'shua) to Life! He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, & murderers, & immoral persons sorcerers & idolaters & all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith and trust in Him today & please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus (Y'shua is His Hebrew Name) & stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please?

    I was surprised about your surprise that this wasn't a typical Greek entry. She is Norwegian, with very little Greek influences. Her music style is going to be extremely different, which is probably why they picked her. They realised she had Greek heritage, listened to her back catalogue and asked her. And what would rather do, be selected to go straight to ESC with full creative control of this song, or go through the impossible hell that is Melodi Grand Prix?
