    Hurricane Sandy destroyed the boardwalk, once they rebuilt it, it caught on fire, once they rebuild it again, there's probably gonna be another hurricane.

    I live about 1/2 mile from the Rt 37 bridge going into Seaside. My neighborhood was spared. I only lost power for about two hours during the storm. Go 1 mile in any direction from my house and it was hell on earth. It was so surreal. I remember feeling guilty knowing my house was fine, but all of my local neighborhoods around me were not.

    I go to the jersey shore every year it's a family routine for our hole family. Cousins, uncles, aunts and we are going next week. But a few years ago maybe in 2014 I was in the ocean and I stepped on a piece of metal and I picked it up and it was a piece of the jet roller coaster and when I stepped on it I had to sadly get 5 stitches in my foot. But when I took the piece of metal out it was like 30 pounds and it was a huge chunk of the roller coaster thing that you sit in and it had half of the mouth on it!!! It was really cool!! And I still have the chunk in my room

    I am almost 60 yers old and I have been in 12 hurricanes, including Ike and Rita when I worked in Texas. I was in Beaumont for both. I dont want to be in another hurricane. I have lived in south Louisiana for most of my life and I feel that this is enough. We have always rebuilt time and time again. All of our neighbors suffer and yes we do help each other here. I am Cajun and I was told once that your struggles make you stronger. Well I have struggled enough. It is very hard to go through a hurricane or any natural disaster and just watch everything you and your neighbors have worked for all of your life just go right down the drain. Sitting through some 145 mph winds can put a whole new outlook on life and can also change a person forever. In one town in southeast Texas, there werequiet a few people that took refuge in a church. After the hurricane the church was a clean slab of concrete. Nothing left . Not even a pew. Thse people were never found. I hauled drinking water to victims of hurricane Katrina and where I pulled up with the truck and trailer , there was a dead body floating not far away. People here live here by choice not because they have to. Where I live in south Louisiana there is virtually little to no crime rate because in each town almost every body knows every body else. We work together. It doesn't matter what color you are. We all have the same blood in our veins. This is the best place to live in the United States of America. You should always remember......there is nothing as strong as the strength of a family. MOst of us have the ability to live off of the land no matter what the economy does. The plates on our table will never be empty. We are Cajun by choice. C. Thibodeaux

    ... 2:56 ... That was "The Wild Mouse", which was located out on the right-hand side corner of Seaside Heights' huge pier. It was my absolute favorite ride in the 60"s. When I first saw footage of Sandy's damage to it, I just went completely numb. A number of months later, I just happened to be watching a UK docu about Brighton. They have a huge amusement park pier there, too ... and out there on the right hand corner of their pier was a quick shot of "The Crazy Mouse"-- *exact same ride* except for the minor name change.
    And then it finally hit me full force; I just broke down and cried harder than I have since I can remember. That eternally happy little kid in me, from all those magickal summer nights so long ago, reached across the years to grab me, and hug me so very hard out of sheer shock, pain and loss. And we faced it together.
    That night, I had the most incredibly real dream about that demented mechanically animated "Crazy Laughing Lady" who used to stand in front of the haunted house ride, which was located a stone's throw from The Wild Mouse. I used to stand in front of her and laugh along with her; all us kids did back then Her ratty straw hat and pocketbook, the fright wig and baggy polka-dot dress. Who knows where that damned storm took her ... but as long as even one of us eternal kids is still alive, she'll live on, too.
    I was born and raised in East Orange, Noo Joisey, just over an hour's drive from where we summered in Lavallette. My aunt had a modest bungalow close to the West Point Island bridge, under which I used to fish for baby flounder, "snappers" (baby bluefish) and crabs. I've never had better seafood in my entire life ... and that includes those gourmet prawns I had in the top floor restaurant in the Cairo Hilton, overlooking the river Nile. I must admit it, though ... the Pyramids *did* have something of an edge over Lucy :)))

      @mikecray243 Před 9 lety +25

      We've been hit by hurricanes before but Sandy was really rough on us. New Jersey was a disaster zone, Sandy broke our backs and losing a lot of the boardwalk attractions broke our spirit. I lost power for a week after Sandy, it was horrible. We never had a storm that big and the shore wasn't prepared for it.

    • @jac1161

      +Beckonor We don't get hurricanes of the sort like Sandy and Irene every year....these were monumental. If they were frequent, it would be a different story, but if you notice in the 150 years of operation, it was only Sandy that knocked it down. No need for sarcasm, when you don't think it through, Beck

    During Sandy, I was 5 and was crying all night hoping that I would survive another day, I didn't sleep that night, Sunrise came and when I looked outside at my front yard, trees were knocked down and the downstairs was flooded, my grandma's room was flooded and she had to sleep upstairs for another 3 weeks. My older sister was asking my dad "Is Six Flags still standing" I remember that night. I remember hoping Six Flags was still standing, we waited 2 weeks before we drove to six flags, it was ok. I'm here now 7 years later horrified to when the next hurricane will hit, wondering if I will still have my chickens, birds, house, and Six Flags. Thank God I don't live in Florida where most hurricanes are, I love it here in New Jersey. I hope the next hurricane won't affect my life.

I still go down with my children and I still love it and hate to leave. It's my favorite place and if I could live there I would. The Casino, Funtown Piers (They still have to be completely removed) But the progress since the 5th has been VERY impressive, the new deeper boardwalk pilons are being replaced. As of yesterday the new planks creating the boardwalk are coming back. Well ahead of schedule! It will still take a while for everything to come back...but it will. No doubt.

    What surprises me is how many American's are upset by their loss of "stuff". In almost all the media I see people sad to loose their belongings. People should be thankful it wasn't like the Tsunami in Japan that sucked entire villages and families out to sea. People get so histrionic and melodramatic in the US. Yes it sucks, but if you're insured, you'll get some of it back. Americans gets shocked when disasters that happen all over the world to other nations happen to them.

    It's so dramatic, like they seriously thought a boardwalk would not be put up to replace it? I live here, I knew it would take a while to rebuild and it wouldn't be exactly the same but in no way did anyone think "boardwalk" would only be a memory.

    I was little when this happened i live in nj and their r so many accidents here hurricanes,fire,surfers,and a couple days ago I went to seaside with my family and someone was drowning and everyone was worried,And Im always frightened when roller coaster crash in water for some reason,I went and i saw a painting of the roller coaster that went in the sea, like I HATE going in water the only place i go to swim is in my pool cuz waves can be a little scary,if i was on a boat (even though i am never going on one cuz what is it sinks like the titanic or a wave crashes into us, well I did go on a boat but just to go to the harbor of the statue of liberty 🗽 and go back to NY) But like I was saying if i go on a boat and jump off to go in the water and the roller coaster is in front of me i will be dead cuz we would LITERALLY BE ON TOP OF A ROLLER COASTER well we would be stuck but byeee!
    God is here to protect you!
