  • Sailing across an ocean as a couple on your own boat is many people's DREAM, but WHAT IS IT REALLY LIKE? In this video we share a day in our lives and how we manage sailing Florence non-stop across an ocean on our own. Our routine to keep watch 24-7 and manage sleep with just 2 people on board. Doing our weather routing and fitting in life at sea around sailing Florence across the Indian Ocean, hundreds of miles out at sea.
We have been sailing around the world for over 5 years after setting off from England in 2016 on board our 37ft sail boat Florence. Join us as we share the highs and lows of travelling around the world by boat, Sailing offshore across the Oceans and exploring remote locations with our own little tiny house. Boat life out at sea on the ocean and off the grid.

      @Wearyman Před 2 lety +1

Sprouts are incredibly easy to grow. You can even grow them in a clear 2 liter plastic bottle! Another easy choice if you want to add more protein is Bush beans. Easy to grow, easy to care for. Just needs a stable 6 inch wide pot, a wire cage and a watering and picking every other day. Although they aren't too fond of high temps, so not so great for tropical climates.

@@Chebab-Chebab Then Bush beans would be a Winter/Rainy season crop for you, and you would have to grow them in a greenhouse or other protected growing area. It is far too hot and dry for them in the Summer/Dry season in that area of the world. They are a Temperate - Sub tropical climate plant and your area is very, very Tropical. You might not even be able to get them to fruit at all. They do best between 65F and 85F Any hotter and they tend to "go dormant" and stop producing, unless grown in a shadier area. Also, I have no idea what the local bugs would do to them. Probably nothing good.

I had an opportunity to cross France to Caribbean a couple of years ago and I jumped on it, but it didn't eventuate. Boat was shipped instead of sailed due to timing. At my age, I'm thinking I may have missed my window. We'll see. M & A did such a great job of putting me onboard with them in this episode and it keeps the hope alive. They actually have me thinking about them a little each day and how it's going.

Granola is super easy to make! Way way cheaper than store bought. All you need is oats, oil, and whatever sweetener you like, I use honey. Add in whatever nuts, seeds, fruits you like, mix it all together and toast it in the oven at 180 degrees for 20-25 minutes, stirring/flipping halfway. It gets crispier as it cools, so don’t worry if it’s soft after coming out of the oven. I do about 4 cups oats, 1-2 cups nuts/flaxseed/chia seed/etc and about 1/3 cup oil 1/4 cup honey. Just make sure the oil evenly coats the oats so they toast up well.

Matt/Any; I have long felt that the finest writers are songwriters, given their stories are so dictated by the structure of their music (verses, chorus, etc). Your comments and great video of sunrises and sunsets on the Indian Ocean remind me of the words of Kate Wolf, an American singer and songwriter who unfortunately died way, way too young. From Across the Great Divide, "The finest hour I have seen, is the one that comes between the edge of night and the break of day, when the darkness rolls away". When we are coastal cruising in British Columbia, I always try to be awake early for that time, which is often around 4am in June in the northern hemisphere. Wonderful time for a cup of coffee, checking the weather, and planning the day. Sail on in fair winds.

So many sailing channels (I watch many) are very high in production quality. Try Uma and Delos.
What I like about these over top of Nat Geog and stuff, is that these are REAL people doing REAL things!!
I was kinda hooked on "Survivor" for the first several seasons just because of the challenges. The "voting out" crap never appealed to me. But those are NEVER actually "reality". They may not be SCRIPTED exactly 'cause the outcome of challenges and voting is not foreknown (I hope!!!) but even still, the whole concept wore very thin on me.
I never got into ANY other such "reality" show either. Matt and Amy and so many others give you a real sense of BEING THERE!!
These two really work well together. I am SURE that there are challenging moments too. Other channels do include some of that as well. But as far as the pure JOY of sailing, Matt and Amy are at the top!

I suggested to you two or three years ago that five or six hour watches are the human body's minimum based on the fact that our brain has to experience REM sleep in order to stay healthy. Your experiencing fatigue can be attributed to this. If memory serves I even provided links to other RTW pairs who had done their research and heeded the advice. Fatigue kills, avoid it.

    True, ...... that's why you people might consider a Code D. :)

Looks like a great crossing. We never did the 4 on system. We usually took advantage of our biorhythms. I am a night person and my wife a morning person so I would take the night water of at least 6 hrs, sometimes longer and then she would go on around 0430 ot 0600 or so or until I felt to tired to be safe. Then she would be on for 6 or more hours. Then we would both be up and just stand informal watches until night. This way we got more un - enterupted sleep. At least that’s what worked for us. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks.

Amy and Mat thank you for having me with you this early morning.
Thanks God you are not celebrities, influencers, you are truly sailors exploring seas, isles including the biggest one of Australia ( haha).
What a pleasure of learning geography, not across continents but across up today three big Oceans.
Hopefully you will not choose the shortest route from the Sayshelles to the British Isles.
From the point of view of filmmakers this video is a great movie different from other episodes.

You can have hot oats first thing in the morning and have better oats than instant oatmeal. Use steel cut oats. Pour 1 2/3 cup of boiling water over 4 TBSP of steel cut oats that are in a thermos bottle with salt and sweetening to taste. Let them soak over night in the thermos. They will be hot and ready in the morning. If you like them piping hot, reheat in the morning. I add 2 TBSP of ground flax seed. Do not cook the flax seed. It will turn to paste. Just stir them in after the porridge is done. The flax is claimed to be beneficial for the heart. They certainly do no harm and thicken the porridge.

By the way, when i sailed down to Nicruagra, we knew that we would be outside the 72 hours for the PCR test but they said that was OK, as they could follow us on AIS. Not one of the reasons we added a transponder!
