    You know they say #showers are more hygienic than #bathtubs. but I just like them better because I think it improves my singing. In this video watch as we tear out an old tired and honestly, disgusting bathtub and transform the same foot print into a beautiful walk-in shower.

    This is a remarkable transformation 👏. I've been ask to do a similar project and am trying to decide if I am capable of pulling it off. You make it look very easy but I know it's not an easy task. May I ask about the drywall material? I was under the impression that concrete board was required for a shower area. Is that not necessary? And did you have to reinforce the floor underneath the pan? Great video. Thank you for your time!!!

    • @DIYBuilt

      Thank you, your right it’s not as easy as the video makes it look. that being said, don’t be afraid of taking on a project like this, there’s information everywhere to help you get it done.
      As for the wall board, yes concrete board is better, we chose drywall because of the thickness we needed (1/4”). We also applied 2 coats of waterproofing membrane before tiling. Another option would have been Kerdi board which comes in different thicknesses and is 100% waterproof, also light weight.
      No we did not have to add supports under the base. Thanks for the visit.

      Hi there, yes you can buy 1/4” drywall however you will have to use a product like Red Guard or Aqua Defence to water proof it prior to tiling.
      You might also want to look at Kerdi board which comes in multiple thicknesses as well, with Kerdi board you wouldn’t need to apply a waterproof membrane.

    Loved the Video! I want to exchange a Garden Tub for the Shower Set-up. I have an 1984 Home and it's set on unlevel ground. The bathroom is a good 5-6 Feet off the ground. So my concern would be the weight load with a shower enclosure (will probably go Fiberglass surround). Question #1; Did you use the regular 1/4" D-Wall and coat it with the Aqua Defense in lieu of regular hardy-backer? Question #2; did you add any reinforcement or replacement of subfloor with both the bathroom & living areas for the plank flooring?

    • @DIYBuilt

      Normally I would have used aqua board however I had to use 1/4” drywall to match up to the 1/4” panel board that is found in older mobile homes. Also 5/8” drywall was used on the hot water tank wall. Aqua board only comes in 1/2” thickness. To overcome these obstacles, you can see in the video we used a rubberized waterproofing membrane applied to the drywall prior to installing tile.

    I'm going to be remodeling an 87 MH. I didn't think tiling wad an option due to weight concerns. I was unaware u could treat drywall with a product and tile directly to it. I recently saw a home renovation that used a pink colored foam board, for tile backer. How old are these products? Do they hold up? What happens if you need to later move the trailer?

    • @DIYBuilt
      @DIYBuilt  Před rokem +1

      First off thanks for watching. I believe the foam wall board product your talking about is likely kerdi board made by Schluter, It comes in different thicknesses and is much lighter than drywall however I don’t believe the added weight from drywall and tile in the bathroom alone is a concern. The product I used to waterproof the drywall is called red guard or aqua guard, the product has been around for quite a while now and I use it often as a second layer of protection over gypsum board. If you choose to go with the foam kerdi board you wouldn’t need to use a waterproofing product like Red guard.

    Why did you not use cement-board in a wet area ? Some places call it green board and in other places it is purple.

    • @DIYBuilt

      Aqua board only comes in 1/2”. We used 1/4” drywall to match up to the thickness of the panel board found in most older mobile homes. To achieve a waterproof membrane prior to tiling we applied red guard waterproofing which is 100% better moisture protection then aqua board.

      For clarification sir, you used regular drywall, the waterproof membrane and THEN the red guard water proofing? Thank you!

      I guess the owner will have to take that problem up with the manufacturer of the mobile home. That is the original location.

    How much did the demo cost the owner ?

    • @DIYBuilt
      @DIYBuilt  Před 2 lety +5

      The whole job was priced together but if I had to break the demo cost separately for the shower and the floor, I would say 1200.00. this would also include the haul away and dump fees. Total labor was about a day for 2 guys.
