Even if abby existed. that is not the point here. the reality is that the last of us portrays the reality of things not just in the graphics. Joel had his reasons for doing what he did in the first game just as ellie and abby had their reasons in the second. no one is a hero or innocent here. they are just people defending their ideals. if you put joel or ellie on a pedestal and hate abby you are being a hypocrite.

Laura comparing the 5 stages of grief to the reaction of this game is actually spot on.
I gotta say, I absolutely hated Abby. I saw all the hate and felt that she deserved all that and more(Abby, not Laura Bailey). But once I got to that part where Yara dies and.. to see Abby stand in the way of the WLF and Lev and to see how she was willing to just give her life just to give this kid just that extra moment at life, even if it wouldn’t be that much.. that is when Abbys character turned around for me. That is when I started liking her and actually caring for her
Its crazy because in literally any other situation Ellie and Abby would’ve been best friends. The only reason they’re enemies is just because of the circumstances. I mean, if you put aside your hate for Abby, then you can see just how much her relationship with Lev just parallels with Ellie and Joel.
What’s even more crazy is how in her relationship with Lev, she takes on Joel’s role. Hate me if you want but.. The similarities you see between Abby and Joel are insane.

How can you not eventually put your hatred toward Abby aside if you are a sane person though? She is a fictional character who killed a fictional character in a game where even the most decent persons do horrible things because pain and immediate survival pushed them beyond what they could take. Abby isn't worse than Joel, she's not even worse than Ellie. I don't think Ellie and Abby will ever truly forgive each other but I think that Abby will eventually admit that killing Joel was a mistake, maybe she had already realized that by the end of the game. And I think that Ellie also regrets to have killed so many people in her quest for closure.

@@lotus2001 he’s not completely wrong though. By the end of the game we were very clearly ‘supposed’ to come to like abby. I do think laura did a good job regardless, but I don’t think there’s a correlation between hating abby and saying that means laura did a good job.

not quite. she was not meant to be a villain. her horrible actions were a result of a horrible trauma. then she goes on to learn that her actions was futile. not only did it cause a lot of trauma to all people involved but it didn't help her to get over her trauma. gradually she finds her closure in positive action, in helping other people. in letting live when she has a choice to kill. which then positively impacts how ellie deals with her trauma and let's abby live. it is really a brutal and sad but in the end a beautiful circle. becoming better people, coming back from a really dark place. and yes, in the end i absolutely agree that laura bailey did absolutely stunning job. it's because of her portrayal of abby i actually gave abby a chance. people are so blind to what goes on in the game it is almost stunning.
Lets get honest when Ellie is stabbing Abby and she is screaming.. I want to stop holding the controller there.. felt so real.
When holding her under water, it was too much. I think they make you do it because it feels so wrong, just as when they made you beat Nora, even though she was going to die anyway. During that part I just waited and waited for an option to just walk away...and it never came. This game was a mind trip and I loved it
in my opinion Abby paid her debt for her crime. Losing all her friends and staying without food for months was more than enough punishment.

I was one who was pissed when Abby killed Joel. I think most of us where pissed and that’s Natural. Seeing the Voice behind Abby and how she had to deal with soo Much hate. I felt soo much empathy with Laura, especially when you can see her emotions come out. I was crying 😢 I’m Soo sorry you are going through this stupid hate. I really hope when people get over the Grief of losing Joel and see that The Story is Great and the actors where awesome. I was mad at first with the story but I get it now lol. It’s just the little things like Abby’s arms, or how Ellie kills all’s the Dogs and Abby is the Dog Lover. And don’t get me started about Jessie’s Death. Arggg!!!! Lol
Um except its not just little things. The characters are uninteresting and unlikable especially abby's crew they are just a bunch of boring asshole's and stupid like that bitch mel like why the hell would you volunteer to go to the frontlines if you're visibly pregnant seriously she doesn't even care about her unborn baby, what an uncaring and disgusting human being the only good character is probably jesse but we all know how quickly he's forgotten after his death. The pacing is all over the place. The writing is so bad and predictable, Certain parts of the game drag on for way too long and are honestly a snoozefest. Those are just some of the problems.

Watching Abby carry Lev to safety at the end really hit me. Ellie was finally on the other side looking at what her and Joel had endured years ago to survive together. So many emotions at once. And that final fight, all of those feelings unleashed after everything they had done to that point, was beautifully unbearable.

Man I love Laura been watching her and Travis on critical role for a minute, she's the furthest thing from Abby from what I've seen and that really speaks to what an amazing actress she is. I still don't like Abby as an antagonist but I have an immense respect for the person.

One day after I finish the game and I just can't stop crying...
“Is she going back to Nomad” Looks like Ellie will meet Deacon and the gang lmao
I put my contoller aside when the fight started because I was not gonna kill Abby. It was an emotionally difficult part/end of game for me. Abby killed me a few times before I decided if I wanted to end the game, I had to keep playing. Even though she survives I was still crying seeing Abby fight for Lev, bring so weak but still so human, and having purpose while Ellie was still grieving/angry/traumatized, such amazing storytelling
this scene was so awesome. i love that by this point Abby is so so done with revenge she doesn't even want to fight. also Ellie finally makes the right choice that was so satisfying to me.

I think last of us 2 was one of the most fantastic games ever written. It goes from you loving Ellie and Joel as characters, to then playing/understanding Abby’s story and the people she lost you learn to love all 3 characters. The actors are all such lovely people in real life and are so proud of their characters.

When she started to talk about Troy and his support for her and she started crying it just melted my heart. I hope that she is alright now. Though Abby is a character pretty difficult to like, Laura did an amazing job as an actress and I wish her all the best.

One important technical detail I missed in final fight sequence is that Abby didn't sound like she's underwater. They could've convolved her voice with some water gurgling. Quite an omission for such a meticulous production ;)
I think Abby's character was amazing and complex. Also Laura's performance is exceptional.
Reasons why not to hate on Abby: To avenge a family member's death is in most people's eyes is righteous, especially when you consider what her Father was trying to do in potentially saving billions of lives. Even her journey post Jackson, she's respected and liked by her peers. She obviously has a disdain for WLFs methods and she truly wants to move on considering she decided to let go of Ellie and Tommy, who she knew he was Joel's brother, when most of the others wanted to kill them. Also, the adventures of Abby, Lara and Lev again prove Abby's true character, that she's just tired of all the bullshit, just wants peace and will always protect those who have her back. Finally, even after seeing her friends die by the hands of Ellie & friends, she still didn't kill them after Lev reminded her who she was (apart from Jesse, but I think that was due to her mad reaction skills).

I enjoyed her arc as well that by the end I was begging at Ellie to stop. Honestly I love the game and I consider it as good as the first. Definitely playing a second time for more exploration and things I missed the first time around.

Abby could of been a VERY beloved character and even enjoyed her story arch if done the right way instead of forcing us to like her after doing what she did not even an hour into the game and then later seeing what Ellie does to those who helped Abby on her task. Laura is one of my favorite voice actors who i even watch during critical role as jester! Its all just gone to hell after how they done the story the wrong way and in the wrong order of things. Joel's death was not a surprise as we all knew that one day he would either die in a heroic way but this is the last of us, there is no true right or wrong only the morale grey, Joel killed a LOT of people to save 1 person. Ellie did the same but only noticed at the very end what she did. Abby i don't know how many people she killed to get and find Joel but after what she did was finished she went home and tried to forget it all. In a way i like the last of us 2 but like many others... a bit disappointing.
They wrote her to be sympathetic, but that's literally what most stories do with their main characters.
By that logic, they must have "forced" you to like Joel because they "manipulated" the writting to make him seem descent even though he's killed and tortured a lot of people (or it could just that playing in his shoes, means the writting will gravitate torwards trying to make his actions understandable).
If anything, they forced you to hate her by only showing her worst actions first with little build up. And that's awesome: that you get to experience completely hating this person, with the confliction coming after.
I finished this game yesterday and thought it was completely awesome! If they want to make a third I would totally play it but it can also be left where it is and still be a complete and thoughtful story.
Fun fact: the person who sent her death threats (or at least one of them) was actually a TLOU2 fan

I think this game successfully traumatized people and the hate this game and Abby's character got is directly linked to the PTSD suffered by the people who were not ready to witness Joel's death. I mean, say what you want about it, but for a video game to give people legitimate PTSD, that's a pretty amazing feat.
I remember when the game got leaked and, even when trying to avoid spoilers since I was excited for the game, still heard what happened to Joel, I decided not to freak and to wait for the game. Sadly, because that got spoiled, it lost some of its initial impact for me, because I was already aware of it. So because of that, I have to say screw the person who leaked the game, they ruined such an emotional part for me. As for my opinion of Abby, I feel that if you genuinely hate a character, the actor/ess is doing something right. What's more is that if they can get you to go from hating to understanding and even liking said character, that's an even greater performance, and I feel Laura (who's done a tone of great work) was able to truly pull it off well.

Laura did a phenomenal job as always, she's so good. Mary Jane in Spider man, Abby in TLOU2, Helena in RE6, etc. Awesome actress and those are just a couple of my favourite performances by her off the top of my head, I know there's shit tons more. She's the female Nolan North or Troy Baker, probably the best female video game voice actor around at the minute. Ashley Johnson would be in the same boat with her if I'd seen more of her work other than Ellie. Also, sending death threats to an actor who was just doing their job because you hate their character is pathetic. Grow up people.
There’s a lot of hate for this game on the internet but everyone who I speak to in person that’s actually played it really loves it. Just because people who comment on the internet have one opinion, you can’t forget there are tons more people who adored the game and just don’t post comments on CZcams about it. The whole cast is great and Abby is an interesting character that served the plot very well. Laura Bailey is one of the best working voice actors right now

I have to agree with that even if i didn't like the game i'm stilll against of sending death threats to people
Great performance. People didn't get the game they planned in their heads that's why there is all the hate.
This game is about hate, revenge, betrayal, love, friendship, and family. I don't have a ps4 but soon I will buy a ps5 to play it to experience it about it.

Crazy how Laura doesn’t even sound like Abby. Sometimes you can hear a hint of her when her voice goes deeper, but otherwise if I didn’t know she voiced Abby, I wouldn’t be able to tell. She truly is a beast at voice acting. So many scenes made me feel panicked because of how well she voiced Abby getting hurt/attacked.
And don't forget she'd also voiced a Super Saiyan.
Whenever I listen Laura talk, the only thing I hear is Serana....

I totally loved this game and can't give it enough praise, kudos to Laura and the rest of the team! But as a sidenote, a plot point I realized after a while, wouldn't it just be really akward if Abby and here friends stumbled upon a different guy named Joel with a brother named Tommy? Neither Joel nor Tommy ever mention their last names, so... Yeah, that'd suck for those dudes... And make the story a whole lot shorter and insignificant... All ideas welcome, though!

The character may have been awful, but Laura Bailey's performance showed a lot of investment and dedication. You can't hate her for doing her job well.

Abby's part was ok in some sections but the main problem is that wasn't the game promised or advertised. They should've just made it a DLC or standalone. When you tack on the Last of Us name you have to consider the first game. If it was on its own it would've been liked a lot more but its under TLOU therefore people wanted Joel and Elly or at least more time with these characters in this present day presented. Either way in no way is Laura responsible for that. She had to put it all, including faith, into Abby and NEIL's direction because SHES AN ACTRESS NOT ABBY.
The whole premise of the story wouldn´t work without the Abby part.

It was such a ballsy move to put players in her shoes after what happened, but BOY was it a rush.
Think of this:
Negan killed Glenn. Beloved Glenn. Yet, look at Negan now. One of the most cherished characters in the walking dead. Definitely one of mine. He has charisma to help with that, but yeah Abby has that never say die attitude. It's incredible!🤗
