  • Please support me on Patreon, let's get from Camel to Leviathan! / mtg_phil In this 93/94 Old School Magic video I talk about the deck I made for Timmy the Sorcerer's Colour Clash tournament.
The requirements were as follows: 60 cards, no sideboard, 8 artifacts max (all restricted), non-basics restricted, no off-color moxen.
I decided to build a mono-black aggro-midrange deck, making use of fast mana and powerful threats such as Hypnotic Specter, Juzam, Sengir Vampire, but also adding some spicier cards such as Erg Raiders and Nightmare. I also used Bad Moons for the boost and Underworld Dreams along with Drain Life for the longer games.
All in all, I really enjoyed the tournament since it brings us back to the more simple, yet also fun idea of focussing on one color and playing without sideboard, giving the game more of a Rock, Paper, Scissors aspect. Speaking of which, I had surprisingly bad matchups against Blue rather than White and Red, which would have been more intuitive for me.

Hi Nathanael! Thank you for the kind words. If you feel like playing on webcam, we can definitely play some casual matches, I'll put some decks together

I would love to see games with these decks you build. Im guessing there arent many oldschool players since theres not a lot of gameplay footage out there?

As for the games, I have several videos on my channel and also a huge backlog of unedited videos, I should definitely get round to editing them and releasing. 93/94 is not a huge format in terms of numbers of people playing it, but it's certainly the friendliest Magic community I have ever been a part of, it's simply amazing.

@@mtgphil42 I have done the youtube upload thing in the past, so I understand it being more fun to record videos than to upload them. At your leisure of course. I enjoyed the Stable Ooze video gameplay video...cool deck

If you ever do this sort of thing again and do the black deck, if you're going to play Bad Moon, first play 4, and you will need one drops. I would skip the Juzam, Juggernaut and Triskelion. Add in Stone Throwing Devils, Vampire Bats, Will O' The Wisp and Unholy Strength. Since you are playing 5 and 6 cmc cards, then I would skip the Bad Moon altogether. I would skip the Underworld Dreams and skip the Jalum. And just go more aggro with Terror/Paralyze to remove blockers. Maybe use Sink Hole and Strip Mine, which are always hilarious with Paralyze.
