- Get ready for a classic Old School MTG match battle; mono Black vs mono White. My opponent has built a beautiful black deck around the card Nettling Imp. He wants to take full advantage of the Imp's ability by playing with Royal Assassin, Sengir Vampire, Sorceress Queen and Icy Manipulator. I am playing with a classic white weenie deck. I play a lot of cheap creatures, a full playset of armageddons and a full playset of Land Tax.
Can I destroy my opponent's mana base, before he destroys my creatures?

Nettling Imp is a great card. Great because it has a playable ability and because the art is so memorable. (I love it!)
I’ve played a similar black deck and it was a lot of fun to pilot. I ran Vampire Bats to combo with the Sorceress Queen.
Love it! Bats 🦇 is pretty sweet.

I love FWB dual lands and once had an idea to get a playset reflecting one of each language: French, Italian, German and British/Summer Magic.
But Summer didn't have duals so that idea went out the window.
By the time people discovered Summer MTG all the way in California, everyone already knew and other than Italian Legends, foreign cards weren't that easy to get back then.
I did open a LOT of English P3K though. And I opened quite a bit of Korean 5th Edition. Both of which had tiny print runs and playables are worth a lot.

I never like the White Weenies lol. Closest I got was WKnights w/Serra embrace and Angels, control things with Wrath and Armageddon.
75% of my games from 1995 among 3 different friends. I was all White. They all loved black and or Blue! Everyone wanted to play me for variation, no one else used white. Good video right in my MTG color scheme! These days I have Orzhov style deck merging black and white. A Red mage in the Final Fantasy world lol.
I'm surprised the players didn't play with bad moon and crusade.
Bad Moon is bad for black midrange but is 100% necessary for white weenie.
Classic match up with some spicy choices.
exciting "ping pong" matches 🙂 when i thought one player would win, the other regrouped as if he would win the match, and so on and so forth ...so much tension🙂

Joep would have been better served running Terrors instead of those Sinkholes.
Also, he should be running Black Knights. One thing both mono Black and mono White decks ought to consider is running Brass Man, specifically to be able to block those Knights.
Interesting sb option. I do think Joep’s factories 🏭 were great at stopping the knights.
Great games, I was really hoping Joep would find a factory to block the white knight so Sengir could finish it.
I like the Netling Imp, but I feel it's not good enough in Swedish in general.
But I have considered playing it U40, but haven't got around to it yet.

White Weenie is def a nice budget option. I'm still thinking about adding a Crusade or 2, but I don't have any FBB copies yet. Although, I do like the way the deck functions as is.

I mean come on, first turn Juzam, it doesn’t get more old school classic than that. I’m surprised he didn’t run terrors, that’s pretty much staple for MB I thought. I wonder what the thought was behind excluding them, it could have really turned the tide, or maybe the thought that the icys would do the work?
I think he wants to use the imps with all the combos as his kill machine 🫣
They didnt sidebord, right? I only play terror in sb, if I play mono black.
The creatures were so lousy back then. If they saw an Emrakrull they'd shit themselves. My older brother used to play back then. When a rubber band was your deck box and sleeves were unheard of. There was an old abandoned gas station near us they would play at. He's how I got my power 9. We still play once in a while, but he's not nearly as good with all the new mechanics that have come out.
In 94, you can’t not pay upkeep cost and then still tap said permanent and use it. They fixed this in 4th by saying “at the beginning of upkeep” but still had that rule above.

Is using "color hate/hoser" cards like gloom, karma, conversion considered fair play in old school or is it considered a cheap win if you use them? Also, I collect FBB too but I have noticed the the German printing has the most vivid colors, followed by French, then Italian, with Spanish/Portuguese having the worst printing
Color hosers are fine in Old School. Most people play a few in their sideboards. I have not met anybody being salty, if they were played against them. Since they tend to only work against one single color and lots of decks are multicolored, they tend not to be super devastating.

Its swedish rules, so no fallen empires. I would have played drain life as a one off, too. But I guess Joep has figured that he doesnt need it in this deck.

imp isnt used often? its insane with royal assassin or even sorc queen so it becomes a 0/2 attacker you can kill =)
Normally assassin is used with paralyze or icy manipulator.
The mono white is super jank. Only 2x Savannah Lions? Land Tax and Balance in the same deck? Pikemen? Yikemen TBR.
I think Balance is always a great card with or without the Tax 🔥
So with the oracle wording you can't Nettle a creature when it's played if Crossroads is in effect. weird.
While I love Imp, I think the strategy is too fragile to removal and the stronger staples like terror and drakn life are safer. Also, I haven't been impressed with the land destruction main deck (good against maze and factory) but the deck could also use chaos orb, and the black knights and order of ebon hands are great. Definitely a different deck, but overall stronger for mono-black.
I always love to see players try something dif, Imp is so cool 🤩
