I'm a nursing student in Florida, and this is probably the hardest part of going to school. To see some people slowly fade away, it really makes your heart hurt. But in the end of it all it feels good to know that those people, before they passed, knew that you were there for them no matter what. That's what keeps me going.

Yes it feels really sad to see people suffering
Is all cancer extremely painful in the end and do Dr's expect nurses to stick to scheduled pain medicine even if patient is in terrible pain?
I had Guillian Barré 25 years ago and I suffered so much back then and until two months ago lived with a pain level of 3.
I was paralyzed, wheelchair bound, needed to be tied in and unable to see. The external pain was horrible, but the internal pain often became untolerable and I would blackout. I wished that they let me die. I was resuscitated 3 times, had 10 apheresis treatments and the nerve pain was unbearable at times, I was told that I would scream while I was unconscious. I really thank God that medication is given to make you forget what you've been through.
I'm so tired of living, but I am terrified about the pain. I would like to know the truth, but the details of my impending death and pain are met with "don't worry, we will make sure that you are comfortable". I need the truth, I do better with the facts and the truth. If you can't find a PC kind of context to say it I will understand. Not knowing is eliminating any happiness for me because I'm terrified by the unknown.
A bad death is a nightmare.A good death is a positive experience. Nurses need to be expert in what a good death is.

As a nurse, thank you for helping students to learn about the one part of nursing that is often neglected. Too often, nurses have to learn about death the hardest way possible with very little to no preparation. She was brave and made her death stand for something. Bravo to you ma'am.

Steneste Lee what an amazing women. my father in law as pancreatic cancer been fighting it for the last year. He's such an amazing person and my inspiration. He's an old soul and my heart breaks to see him have to fight this horrible disease! On the plus side there's a new drug out that's only available private not on the nhs yet but fingers crossed it will come available for every one to have. Xxx

Steneste Lee ... so sorry. My mom passed the day before I started nursing school of pancreatic cancer. I've been an oncology nurse ever since I got my RN license. People ask me if I became an oncology nurse because both my parents did from cancer. The answer is NO...I became a was inspired to become a nurse because of the nurses who cared for my parents. It is the same cancer that took my husband one month ago the same week that my daughter started 10th grade.
This is the worst thing that could ever happen to a loved one. I lost my aunt like this last week. Its the most hurtful thing that has ever happened to me.. May all terminal patients' souls be at peace.
Rest in peace Ms. K you gave the nurses a big gift by opening up to them and teaching them so they can help others. You showed generosity beyond belief while you were suffering in pain. You will always be remembered by those who loved and cared for you.

My beloved Mother passed away Nov 12, 2014 with this...she didn't even know she was stage 4 untill 5weeks before she passed away at home, coming out the bathroom into my arms...I slowly watched my mom took her last breath... I was telling her help was on the way, & not to worry....I didn't know if she could hear me or not..... but this is a very sad thing to get... this just brought all sad memories to me...bless both of them Angeles

As a nurse herself, she knows more about dying than anyone in the room. I hope I could to hold her hand because this is the only I can do. Looking at her in such a great pain, she reminded me of the time I lost my Father.
Such a sad story but I’m glad she was able to let others know what it’s like. Nobody else can teach you about what dying is like unless you are going through it yourself. Rest In Heaven sweet lady.

Cancer may be cured by herbs . For example a woman in uk used 8 grams curcumin (an extract of turmeric) a day for her terminal cancer. Her doctors were shocked.
I suggest to use whole ground turmeric instead of its extracts .
And there are many other herbs if you want .

i feel sad t see people hurt from a severe disease, it just make me feel so much for anyone that is going thru a difficult time with an illness, i live it from very close my dad just past away on 12/21/16 of liver failure and kidney,😪...i learn so much from my dad and everyone else with a severe disease my deepest sympathy 2all, and even went is a horrible illness thanks to all i learn t be grateful and more humble every day, my hero's my role model's is someone like this beautiful nurse that was dealing of pancreatic cancer, and so as my dad and everyone else....may she b free of pain and in heavenly peace❤😔
This reminds me of my mother, she was a nurse and she had died from cancer. It was really painful and I wish i could tell her how much i love her.

..to me : she really a good person, good nurse..sometimes, it's powerful to teach you in real then just speak..I can see her pain but i can see her brave,too..maybe, she's suffer but her mind is calm, clear and peaceful.. she definitely in peace..and the way she hold hand at the end - teach me a lot..thanks Ms Martha Keochareon..
What an incredible gift she gave to students as well as all those around her. We have become a culture where no one wants to discuss death. I have 2 terminal illnesses and I am not treating either one as they have no cure. I have always been open about living and death. It is part of the circle. I worked w/ patients that were in hospice and I learned a long time ago that those that openly discuss their impending death, their loved ones and friends have the oppoturnity to say and do whatever it is that they want. Those that don't want to discuss, their family is left w/ real challenges not only with the death but what their loved one wanted when they passed. WE all have an expiration date on us and we should and need to talk about it. I hope her family has found some peace and comfort. She has been gone for awhile now and I know she is at peace. Love and caring to all.
This is the beauty of nursing. We are a selfless profession of people who seek to give and help others. What a beautiful woman and story.
As a hospice nurse I totally agree that we need to look at some alternative pain solutions. Of corse that's totally up to the physicians. Sometimes, no matter how much their pain meds are increased, it just doesn't seem to hit the pain and give them any comfort. Keeping in mind that every case is different. Oh and in referrence to an older post, there actually is a paper that you can sign as to what you want or do not want. This may have very well been her favorite song. May God Bless You All!

"Dying is part of living". It rolls off of the tongue very nicely, but Death has been known as the "Grim Reaper" for centuries ~ because it terrifies human beings! I'm not ashamed to say that it frightens me. I have complete and utter admiration for this woman (and all like her). I fear that sort of courage is beyond me. I wish it were otherwise, but I've never been what people would call a strong or courageous person.

If I got to that stage early on I would just want to be given a very high dose of opiates and then something to take me out peacefully, probably the best way to die. Life really is way too short.
If you take enough opiates they will take u out themselves

@@CMoore8539 My older sister died of lung cancer that had metastasized. Very strange fact is that she was conscious until maybe the last couple of days, and had very little to NO Pain at ALL! She didn't need, nor did she take her pain medications. And for that I will always be very grateful!!🙏

I'm writing this message with tears, because of my health condition, the doctor told me this morning that i will not survive my health condition due to my cancer diagnosing, so i have decided to offer my fund to the orphanage children, homeless less privilege there in your country to enable them to always pray for me even am if I'm know more alive as the doctor has told me that i can not survive my health condition
The level of grit she has to explain her situation without self pity & cry.......omg how calmly she faces death with stride ❤
My father was told he had 6 months to live. He survived another 3 years and was happy and comfortable until the last few days before he died. May he RIP. I think when Dr's say this it's based upon statistical averages. One can't determine from statistics as every person is different. I have a dear friend who was told she would die in a few months of stage IV breast cancer...she is still alive now after 17 years. There is more than conventional medicine that can help. I'm very sorry for your loss

We all can be teachers during our lifetimes. This precious dear woman, if there is a list, she would be somewhere near or at the top of the list as a Teacher.
As a nursing student,we had an exercise in class where we were told you had a terminal diagnosis. You wrote three names of a loved one,3 of your hopes and dreams 3 of prized possessions, 3 areas of your life you would chsnge,and out of these 3 which would you hold onto. I'm sure there are part a I am.missing,but yo show us what really matters is not how smart you eerr,how much money,etc,but what really matters to you. None if us including instructors got out of that tclass without crying. I am a nurse in long-term care,and interact often with hospice. Yes,it's sad to lose a favorite resident,but a privilege. Life truly comes full circle. Bless this nurse/teacher/patient. She gave a priceless lesson.

As an RN, death was taught to me by trying to not get attached to the dying patients. Which for me was impossible. Death is pure, and needs to be seen as a wholesome New realm we find as we move from stage to stage until the end of this life. Most patients try to fight and hold on, but as soon as they relax, face the realization, and except their condition and release their fear, pain, and anxiety. It's quiet and they gently leave to the next realm. Actually, except for the families emotional tears. It ends all suffering pain, and peaceful. AMEN????

Being ice cold with patients because of death actually has the opposite effect that people intend. That is depression ONLY, and constant depression (not professionalism). It’s only through loving other people, even though they may die or we don’t know them well, that we heal quickly from grieving and open our minds and hearts to telepathy, meditation, and the spirit world.
That’s the worst idea ever - treating patients like scientific specimens instead of personalities. It goes against everything we know within about consciousness. The idea just isn’t healthy, nor real. It doesn’t really reflect with how people really interact in the mind and heart.
Please God Rest her soul and thank her for giving me courage because I know one day I will be going and some of my family members it's something that has to happen it cannot be stopped rest in peace sweetheart and thank you for the comfort

This is how my dad died right in front of me. I thought it was a joke since it was my first time knowing but once you know when they put you in hospice care it’s where they put you to sleep. Which I didn’t know at first. I almost cried but I tried to hold it in. Can never tell when God takes you in

Wow ... my mom died in my arms. And when she passed, it was a very enlightening experience for me. Hard to explain, but I held her close to me as she labored breathing - I didn’t want her to go, so I held her tighter ... and in an instant she was gone. It was as if she magically slipped out from my hug. And at that instant, I knew there was absolutely nothing anyone in this world could do to keep her here. The experience made me understand in a very profound way that nothing in this world could keep her here and for some reason, that understanding seemed to help me - She still lives inside of me every second of every day. I hear her words when I’m confused and I am reminded by her to keep my faith just when I’m about to give up at times. If you touch someone’s heart while you are alive,
they keep your spirit alive inside themselves - and ultimately you pass it onto those you love. In this sense, our spirit never dies - it is passed along in eternity. I honestly believe this.

my mom has cancer and sometimes I feel anxious bc she doesn’t talk about what her feeling physically or mentally . She doesn’t want to go to a doctor which worries me the most. All I can do is support her on what she wants to do and love her unconditionally.

What a special woman!
My aunt just got diagnosed with cancer , she has it in several places in her body including 3 in her brain stage 4 . She looks perfectly fine , doctors claim she has around 6 months to live. My aunt is 55 and my mother is 60. Their mother died when they where both kids at a very young age leaving my mother to basically care for her young sister. It breaks my heart to see what my aunt is going thru, but it hurts even worse seeing what my mother is going thru as well.
My mom passed in 2006 she was the most beautiful person inside out she had cervical cancer and also lost one of her breast, she went through so much pain I cried night n day for her😭😭SIP mamma you are 💕
my mums sister is terminally ill and has a couple days left to live its really sad shes only 49
Wow that's sad my mother was in her late 50 wen she die she was living in the State at time and maybe could've live longer if she had believe in blood transfusion

I live next to Holyoke hahah I couldn't believe it when I saw where she went!! I'm thinking about nursing and although I change my mind I always end up going back to nursing but I do have anxiety attacks time to time and I always wonder how I could ever be a nurse with a problem like that but at the same time I don't want it to stop me from doing things I'm passionate about.
