I mentioned this in Macy's previous video. One of the dogs I rescued had an obstructed digestive tract, so even though she was hungry and ate well, she would regurgitate everything she ate, usually about 12-14 hours later. Nothing was getting past her stomach. There was no stool. She looked like she had been starved to death but didn't act like she had been abused. One vet told me to euthanize her. I then took her to my regular vet who said that she probably had less than 20% chance of survival, but they tried a pill that caused her digestive tract to expand, which dislodge whatever was blocking it. She had her first stool 3 days later, no surgery required. The medicine was cheap too. It took a year for her digestive tract to repair itself. She went from 28lbs to 90lbs. 8 years later, she's a strong, healthy, and happy dog. I'm glad I didn't listen to the first vet. I would never take a dog back to them...

@@nevillec5252 I had to go way back in my records. I think the med was Metoclopramide 5mg. I Googled it to read how it works but the article I found was written so that only a doctor could understand it. This is the part where I think it does the trick for digestive obstructions:
"Consequently, it increases the resting tone of the lower esophageal sphincter while simultaneously relaxing the duodenal bulb and pyloric sphincter, thereby increasing the peristalsis of the duodenum and jejunum."
peristalsis - " the involuntary constriction and relaxation of the muscles of the intestine or another canal, creating wave-like movements that push the contents of the canal forward."
duodenum - "the first part of the small intestine immediately beyond the stomach, leading to the jejunum"
Metoclopramide only cost $9.99, a lot cheaper than surgery. It may cost more today...
@@nevillec5252 Here's another med that may have done the trick. I Googled this but struggle to understand the terminology. I don't know the difference between an obstruction and pseudo-obstruction...
Metronidazole - "we report a case where SSc-associated pseudo-obstruction was successfully managed by metronidazole therapy."
They charged $9 for twenty 250 mg pills. They also put my dog on strictly a canned food diet. I don't think she needs it anymore but since she's eaten canned food all these years, I'm having a hard time convincing her to eat dry dog food, which cost less and has less calories than canned dog food. The label on the canned food I feed her says that each can contains 1200 calories...
Yes, always get another opinion. Even with med drs. They can be wrong.
Veterinarians don’t know a damn thing about caring for animals! They are trained to treat symptoms not to find the cause of the problem that’s causing the symptoms! Therefore, the problem gets worse as time goes on. When looking for a veterinarian find a doctor that went to other schools after the veterinarian school. Look for doctors that specialize in nutrition and the natural path of healing the body with herbal supplements and remedies. Don’t let the under educated vet tell you anything different.
For sweet Macy!.. I saved a cat who was in the same condition. He almost died but we didn't give up. His name is Charlie and he's now 9 years old...

I don't have much, but Macy just gets to me. I'd take her home in a heartbeat if I lived in the US. My first dog when I was five years old was a German Shepherd called Boris, who was the puppy of my grandfather's dog Cassandra. GSDs are just my heart.
I wish I had something to donate for her medical. All I can offer are prayers and lots of love to give her ❤️

I currently own my 4th German Shepherd, Kylo. He is 4 years. They are the best dogs. Very loyal, very loving. So on behalf of myself and Kylo, we are donating to be applied towards Macy's care. My son got has a German shepherd/ rottweiler mix named Rylo! 😂👍Lost/ start he adopted and they go hiking, dog park, dog beach all the time
Interestingly he looked like spitting image of our old dog (also GS/ rottweiler mix) Butty who passed away about 10 yrs ago! 😮
I found a lost dog when I lived in Idaho that looked _awful._ I was so upset on her behalf! We found the owner, another local farm, and it turns out that she had Cushing's. So your comment about needing to know about a possible hyperthyroid made me think back to that incident.
(The dog had been a cattle dog, but she was injured and developed Cushing's Syndrome. The family retired her and kept her as a pet, and they were delighted to have her back again.)
Years ago, we adopted a beautiful rescue girl (Aussie/lab 5 year old), who it turned out had been scrounging food on the streets when rescued. She had put on weight eventually but had bouts of pancreatitis over her remaining 12 years. We just learned to feed her bland meat/rice mixtures and her own gas reducing OTC meds for a couple of weeks as our vet checked her to make sure there were no other serious issues. We got teased that we cooked better for her, than ourselves, but she was worth every moment and $ of it.
There are 2 more rescues here now, hoarding & puppy-mill survivors. They are spoilt rotten (as they should be).
Our lab had Cushing’s. Ate everything in sight but was still losing weight. She went on the medication and turned right back into herself. We did eventually lose her to the benign pituitary tumor that causes it but she had an extremely good quality of life up to almost 16.
I hope Macy gets better and all the dogs you help get better and find loving forever homes.

@@teresatrigiani7838 I COMPLETELY EMPATHIZE WITH YOU, AND TRULY UNDERSTAND. Unfortunately, I'm severely strapped for cash right now... I was Injured on the job... needing surgery, and now on 60% of my former wages (disability payments). Most people use 90% of their paycheck every week. Imagine going down to almost half of your prior wages and making it work!! But, I found that I can post this ALL OVER my social media and help that way. It makes me feel a little bit better about not being able to donate $$. AND, one of my friends DID adopt one of the dogs he featured that I posted on my facebook page. BIG WIN!

@@rebeccacarlson9166 Thanks. We have not had to break out the snowblower once yet! Still waiting for The Big One to hit though. We’re in a suburb of Toronto off Lake Ontario. My husband has a rare kind of bone marrow cancer that has also caused a very sclerotic spine and many osteolytic lesions and it’s really hard for him to deal with snow so can’t say he’s sad it’s been a mild winter thus far. I’m from the remote North originally but moved ‘down South’ for university and stayed so these winters are laughable compared to what I grew up with. Hope you keep safe. Love Massachusetts but haven’t been in a very long time since travelling as a family when young.

Do you know any shelters what adopt dogs over seas . I can pay all expenses. I do have recommendations. I live in Europe and here you can't find small dogs in animal shelters. With small I mean 2 kg - I have 2 cihuahuas and I like to have more .
I don’t know of any. Usually overseas adoption is completely out of the option because of the huge stress on the animals and the horror stories of animals getting lost and dying.
@@tyyneviljakainen5108 You have a kind heart and soul, however with International Rescues there are different Quarantine laws in every country on planet Earth - what also has to be considered is the potential long-haul flight that rescue dogs may not be the best of health for. There are shelters and rescue organisations in European countries who have dogs for adoption - the Takis Shelter in Greece is an independent operator who has dogs available for adoption.

I have 3 rescue Shepherds and I spent the last hour hugging each one with everything I have….I am an old white guy, who lives alone, and my pups are what keep me going…they bring me joy every day. In Connecticut, I contacted a Shepherd rescue. I found a German Shepherd listed in Alabama. The dog had been shot 3 times by its owner but because I had no way of fencing in my 10 acres I was refused adoption. I own horses,ponies rescue cats and 2 Corgi dogs. You make adoption look easy compared to my experience. Good luck with your new pup.
I’ve run across that with rescues in Colorado. I wanted to adopt a rescued Shih Tzu. I filled out all kinds of forms and wrote an essay that they required. They also required thatI read a certain book. So I got the book. Two months later I had never even met the dog! No matter what I did I couldn’t seem to get them to let me meet this little dog. They had no objections - they just didn’t care if I adopted! I gave up. And they NEVER contacted me. I had owned my own home for 30 years, had experience with the breed and I was more than financially capable. NOPE- Not even a phone call.

I adopted a shelter dog 2 days after seeing Macy. They had him drugged on Trazadone because he was so stressed out. I've almost wened him off, he's a happy dog now ❤

Macy stole my heart, not just because she is a GSD, but she is a beautiful soul with so much love to give despite her terrible past. I am so glad you stepped in because she needed the extra Rocky superpower to heal. Whoever adopts her will be so lucky!
