As a fan of the wfc trilogy,siege IS honestly one of the best toylines ever,the cybertronian mods were unique,the designs were accurate and great,i think this figure is better with the shattered glass redeco,i Hope we Can get a cybertron or armada jetfire retool and redeco of this solid toy
Bland, white-bread, tediously reliable and, as you rightly point out, unremarkable. In other words, a perfect rendition of the G1 comic and cartoon character! This thing is the Vauxhall Vectra of Transformers.
Jetfire is such an enigma for me, and I'm sorta glad to know someone else has at least had that experience! He's so almost there, but he really just feels like a really big Voyager, Rodimus and even Sky Lynx were more involved or more solid respectively
You can fit 3 whole titan masters in this fella by cramming 2 into the back and removing the engine and popping one into the cockpit which makes you objectively INCORRECT as this is the most fun toy in the entire universe Great review though. You kinda summed up my thoughts on the big lad. I'm happy to have him but he definitely isn't shaking my world
I can fit five titan masters on deluxe topspin by having one in the cockpit, one standing on each wing and two sitting on the engines. The two on the back can be freaky knee heads in robot mode too. Objectively more fun
Always good fun when a figure doesn't compromise much of their design to become a playset for figures within the line, and even ones from the line prior.
This figure is honestly a favorite for me. I think a big part of it is the transformation. You can have a figure bordering on bad where the transformation saves it (though Jetfire is certainly not in need of saving). I still remember Beast Hunters Rip Claw and some of the clever stuff that figure does to reshape it's proportions from beast to robot mode. So combine Jetfire's cool and memorable transformation with an armor-up feature, something I'm personally a huge sucker for, and he was always gonna be a hit for me.
Great review as always. It never occurred to me that those were handles on his undercarriage that other figures could hold onto. I'd love a Hooligan or even Astrotrain repaint.
Dumb idea I had for a Transformers figure: Retool of Jetfire with a new head as Rosanna. As a riff on Jetfire's Macross roots + the whole "idol singer" thing from Macross, also because it's a fun and unorthodox character choice!
I was wishy washy on SG Jetfire long enough that the toy is sold out on pulse and the decision made for me, so I'm glad to see someone else can't make up their mind about the mold. I'm no closer to having an opinion but I at least feel seen, thank you Gavin. On another note, as a Fat Little Westerner (American Edition) I must say that ToyFu being UK based severely bums me out. I want to give them money quite badly. Buying vintage toys and knowing my money is going to a good cause is something I'm lacking over here.
I truly love this guy. Might be my favorite figure in Siege. Edit: you can take the engine block out and nothing will break. You kinda have to lift the front of the engine out first to get it out.
It was partly thanks to your enthusiasm, I got a G1 Skullcruncher recently. I had him for Christmas back in 86 and loved him literally to pieces. Now he's back and chompy! (And I knew to file down the corners on his headmaster's shoulders this time!)
Why is he so big? I know he’s originally from a different line of Japanese figures than the rest but I mean is there a lore reason why he’s so big? I’ll check with the basics because Jetfire is one massive lad.
iirc this toy is based off of Skyfire, Jetfire's legally-distinct cartoon cousin, who was oddly large in the cartoon too (although perhaps not quite *this* big)
I did get this for a good price at ToyMan Show, and went ahead and purchased the Matrix Workshop antennae that gives him the full Macross look in full armor. And yes, that circuit block can be removed in order to seat a Titan Master or Prime Master, in addition to two in his back in jet mode [as Obsidian and others have already pointed out], not that you'll usually be doing that.
I believe I'm the first to mention this, but the gray block does come out, and the space is sized to seat a Titanmaster! The red booster unit also opens up to reveal 2 more Titanmaster seats.
The best thing about this figure is that it is competent. It does everything that it sets out to do just fine. It has every function that you would expect it to have, everything is rocksolid and tight, and it looks the part. Sometimes to be amazing, you simply need to not fail.
Personally I leave the chest piece in a box and just arm the spaceship up with all the various bits. I like Jetfire from the IDW comics where he was this big military bot that was forbidden to become a forensic scientist by the pre-war functionist regime on pre-war Cybertron (I didn't remember much of him from G1). Also: big bot with lots of guns good.
For me as a returning Transformers fan it was Siege, Earthrise and Kingdom that got me back into the hobby. I thinks it’s a very cohesive line that also have a consistent theme that seems really complete. So far Legacy seems much less interesting.
For me my issue is why is he this big? It feels like when you see a blown up oversized KO of a figure, except in this case he's big... I dunno just to justify a price point?
Because he was that big in the cartoon (yes, size varied but he was by and large very big comapred to other Transformers even those that today would fit into leader class).
This mold really wouldn't have fit Star Saber. He deserves his own mold. Which is exactly what Haslab is giving us and I'm very excited. I was always a fan of Victory and any acknowledgment to it's existence is appreciated

you can indeed take the engine block out of the cockpit, i have done so with my figure. infact afterwards it becomes a perfect size for a titan master, complete with tiny gap for that peg behind the titan master' legs. theres also two more titan master seats just under the big blue window on the backpack too!
The Shattered Glass version is being sold at one of my local shops. But he costs about as much as two leader class toys, so I might wait on a sale for him.
I'm considering going for the Shattered Glass version of this guy just because seeing the Shattered Glass Ultra Magnus made me feel like being an SG collector and there's not that many of them right now that it's not an absurd thing to try. Plus this is the only Commander mold I haven't gone for so maybe I should have it eh?

This guy came out not long after I was getting back into collecting and it was kinda tempting. Couldn't resist Sky Lynx the year after though. That thing is fantastic and everyone should have one.
I really like the fact that they gave us both the animated and the toy versions in the same figure. It wasn't needed, but it was a nice touch as a nod to everyone (like me) that owned the old Macross VF-1J Valkyrie that was his toy (they literally changed nothing, they just imported him straight from Japan and said "Here's Jetfire" like we wouldn't notice the difference). I've been looking for a good cartoon-accurate toy of him for quite a while, now, and we finally had one with Siege. So either way I'd like to get him, though the fact that he costs as much, or more, than a Titan-class figure is stopping me. Ironically, the Shattered Glass version is cheaper. I may end up getting that one if I can ever find him in-stock, and if I have the money.
I really like this guy, but I did also get him in a "spend €75, get €25 off" sale in Smyths, so him, a Refraktor, and something else, I forget which cost me like €100 instead of 150.

You can pop out the little m chest thing, I think it gives you enough space for a headmaster ride in there, its one of those weird cases where they carried over a gimmick from a prior toyline
To me, it's the boxy slabs of white that devalue this figure. Say what you will about Classics Jetfire, that guy had some nice angles and curves to make him interesting.

Amusingly, Commander class Jetfire is a similar size to the fancy Macross Valkyries Arcadia and Bandai do. Maybe I need to hide Jetfire in my Skull Squadron bois
this one fits in what i call "the adoration limbo". it's big, it's well done, is sadyfiying to handle and it's good looking, but is it really worth getting it? if you like the charather, the setup or these kid of veicles, absolutelly, if not, it's not a loss, but those money could be put into multiple smaller ones that would rank higher on your personal scale. also, he's a big boy
I goddamn love this guy, but that’s probably partly a combination of being wildly jealous that my neighbour had a G1 Jetfire when I was ten, plus this being like the third or fourth transformer I picked up after getting back into them. Siege Sky Lynx IS funnier though.

Didn't care for them either (much preferred the science fiction version, the 'Starblazer' comics) but where else could you see stuff like an SS tank commander getting punched in the face by a Tommy or GI shouting 'Eat Knuckle Fritz!' Also, quite liked Jetfire...almost as good as sticking one on a member of the SS.
Kinda feel the same way, honestly. He's big and chunky but rather unremarkable. Still fun to transform though (barring that front landing gear) and that's the main thing to me! I also really don't like how his legs feel to pose, the ratchets just feel off.
Great review, I always felt siege jetfire was off and I am a big jetfire fan, he's just too big and the weird armour stuff doesn't work for me, its like he wants to be macross fighter but can't for Harmon Gold related reasons. He might have actually been better as a leader class figure and losing a few of the gimmick and chest shield thing. I don't know, maybe not but he just doesn't land it for me either.
To be honest, I don't understand your problem with this figure. You said you see it as "mediocre", yet all you showed in the video are positives. The closet's thing to been "negative" was you saying "you're not a fan of G1 Jetfire".
i never bought this guy. i kinda liked the priced point, it's expensive but not as bad as a titan and you still end up with a giant luxury monster. but idk, i'm just not into the deco. too bad they never made a Universe-style Treadbolt out of this...

The engine thing in the cockpit does come out apparently and you can put Titan masters in it. Kind of a cool hidden feature.

That piece can be removed from the cockpit and it is meant for a titan master. The secondary cockpit fits 2 more titan masters

Personally, I've always preferred the Macross Valkyrie design over the relatively more blocky Skyfire look. Not that Skyfire is bad.

To be honest, I don't understand your problem with this figure.
