This is so cute. All of these beautiful people having fun and enjoying life singing together! They really look like they had a good time! They seemed so cheerful and happy!
R.I.P., Derek Bell! I was entranced the first time I saw you playing a neoceltic harp. So haunting. And here you are, having a blast playing a mean awesome ragtime piano. I know you were a classically trained musician! What a wonderful clip of you with your buddies. God bless you, Derek! All for the love of the music..
Some of the greatest traditional Irish musicians alive in their day. Most are multi instrumental and virtuosos on their own whether harp or uillen pipes or any traditional instrument. To see so many greats of Irish music together is fantastic.
Love this - my Mum was Marie from Portmahomack in the Hghlands and my Dad was from Letterkenny Donegal, they met in Claridges where they both worked we always call this their song xx
Several members of my family and I once appeared on stage with Van Morrison & The Chieftains during their world tour. It was a brilliant concrete, the people clapped, cheered, and danced all during the show, I felt the applause from the audience &now for the full truth of why we were on stage, the places was fully sold out plus a further 500 or so people were allowed in if they steed up on the sides and at the rear, we asked if we did not mirid getting on to stage with band as that was the only room left to put people
Sang this and Over the sea to Skye. (Music teacher was Scotish) With a group of 10/11 year old boys in the Uk in a local hall. Last time I sang in public sober.
I miss those Irish boys! Glad discovered The Chieftains record by accident in my public library. One album and group led to another and another! A bagpiper at my younger brother's wedding played "Marie's Wedding"!
Wonder what that piano tune is called ? Sounds like Ragtime music. I also recommend seeing the full show with the Chieftains. There should be a clip of Van Morrison & Chieftains playing 'Star Of The County Down', even though I prefer the version from another TV show around the same year (found on youtube, but I left out the search query 'bbc').
hello , anybody could leave me the link to the full show , i really would like to see it , im spanish and im fascinating by celtic culture , wich in spain there is too , diolch
The Late Late Show, cc the late eighties, I seem to think I saw this live, but cant remember the occasion. inc. The cheiftains, Maire Brennan, Delores Keane, Mary Black.

Marie's Wedding Is Actually A Scottish Song From The Isle Of Lewis Not Irish.
Some incredible musicians and singers with Van, no wonder he was happy
Absolutely love this song. Van does a great version of it. The video is really well orchestrated too. He's a great performer. 👍

Great to hear Derek Bell playing some ragtime piano at the start. R.I.P. Derek Bell and Paddy Moloney. Even Van Morrison managed a smile.

I knew Van could smile!
Ha I reckon I could be wrong, but on a one to one basis, or smaller gatherings he could be very different than his public persona
I think it's the first time i've seen the man smile lol. NO JOKE. Gotta love his genius though
He smiles even more these days, so he must have began to mellow around that time.
That looks like a great time! Just spotted Gary Moore to... Brilliant! 😀
Dear, dear Van...so happy among his own!
What a great bunch of lovely people enjoying themselves.....
Such a talented musician Derek Bell

Gary Moore, Van Morrison, The Chieftains, ladies & gentlemen I think we’ve just discovered the meaning of life
Our Scottish pipes and drums band play this tune.
Joyous.
And I think it’s Gary Moore on the white guitar 🎸👌
Can you tell us more about this? It's wonderful to see Van and co. having so much fun.

Ah the good old days when the Late Late was worth staying in for, not like the trash that it has become now with talentless celebrities
Sheer anglo celtic saxon NW UK joy x

Love seeing a young Mike Moran there
Fun.

Mr piano. Not popular. lol.
Played a mean harp too, and would probably have beat you at both! lol...
Crazy and stoned
They look like Ken Dodd's Diddy Men. Is Ireland just a sort of circus thing?
A smug, smarmy sense of superiority. Would anyone like to guess his nationality?
Clue: Begins with an E
Your mother and sister look like Ken Dodd's diddy men.
Is that Moya Brennan from Clannad standing with Van Morrison there???
