I theorize George had to favor Margaret because he knew the pain of being the spare to an older brother so close in age.
Exactly
Perhaps!!! Good observation!!!
Or perhaps he saw in Elizabeth what she sees in Charles, his replacement. At least George was kind enough to not be so cold to Elizabeth as she was with Charles.
Of course he did. He appears to have overcompensated. But he did it out of Love and Empathy.
There was just no one there with the time or patience to help them realize that, so that Both could truly be free to appreciate and enjoy each other as Sisters.
And Margaret was very demonstrative with her father loved to hug and kiss him something I am sure he longed for and was not used to.
Princess Margaret envies that her sister can be with the man she loves, while Elizabeth II envies the freedom her sister has.
If Margaret were Truly Free, she would have been able to be with the man she truly loved as well. And Both Their Lives would have been less stressful for it. js
@@joiisler8986 She could have been with Townsend. He revealed in his autobiography that he and Peincess Margaret received the offer of a morganastic marriage from the Queen and Anthony Eden. Margaret could keep her titles and wealth but she and her children would have Io be removed from the line of succession. Apparently Margaret didn't love him enough to do that.
@@cherylhulting1301 she still had more freedom than Elizabeth
Claire Foy and Vanessa Kirby will always be the best actresses to play Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret. ♥️
Oh I so love this scene! The back and forth between Claire and Vanessa was perfection! It also has one of my favorite lines from the show..."Many times...at great length...wistfully!" LOL!!!
I don't believe this; Margaret loved being a princess without any responsibilities and was not envious of Elizabeth. She loved her sister and never upstaged her. I think Margaret simply wished her romantic life had worked out somehow and the rest would've fallen into place.
Same. I thought it was all played for dramatization. Harry himself said that no one wants the big job of being a royal.
I agree. I think they lean in way to much to the "poor Margaret" sentiment in this episode. Firstly, she doesn't apologise or acknowledge the fact that she was deliberately rude to people and hurt their feelings- she just brushes past it as her "making a mistake" and uses it as proof that everyone despises her. Other people's feelings matter as well, at least show some guilt over it? Second, they attribute her mental health difficulties to her resentment over not being the Queen. However, we know there's far more to it than that- her regret over Peter Townsend and her fear that she made the wrong choice, her grief over her father, the strain of royal duties ect ect. She didn't resent Elizabeth in real life, and in the show they could definitely have come up with something more creative than "two sisters envy each other".
This dynamic is always very interesting, two siblings very close in age, one has the spotlight, the other, in the sidelines: Look what's happening to William and Harry. The next to watch, maybe not as well known, are the daughters of the King and Queen of Spain.
Well, the daughters of the King and Queen of Spain seem to get on much better than Harry and William at this point in time. Will have to see if that changes with age, but given that their parents have a harmonious marriage, are supportive and well, are both alive I see it playing out a lot better than Harry and William did, although there is still plenty of time for reconciliation for those two.
William and Harry are an extreme scenario. Harry is cheapening his brother's inheritance by having turned his back to everything he stood for and becoming a deepthroat of very dubious word, all for the sake of an equally dubious and unsavoury woman. He has laid bare his deep resentment and jealousy of his brother in very underhanded ways. Margaret never betrayed Elizabeth.
nahhh the Spanish monarchy isn't remotely close to the lavishness and drama as the English lol. They have hella insecurity and pressure since they only rather recently got reinstated since Franco died lol. They're like the most lowkey out of all of the contemporary European royal families.

And probably happier for it, too.

Four years is a larger gap. (Even WILLIAM and HARRY were not even educated together.)
It seems the monarchy itself dictates an unnatural rivalry; breeding undue resentment.
I agree that WILLIAM and HARRY could (and should), reconcile. But will Both take the time, and make the effort?
With both CHARLES and KATE in hospital right now, they could take this opportunity to remember (and show) the love and unity that their Mum so hoped they would share.
QE2 did not play about them cigarettes. 😂 As soon as someone lit one she gave them side eye or moved away. 😂
🤣 I’m exactly the same way! I hate the smell of them. Couple that with the fact that her father was killed by smoking-induced lung cancer, one could completely understand her.
@@TrezeeyWas it really understood at this time that smoking causes lung cancer, though?
@harringt100, not that at the time. But I'm sure later, once she found out, she grew a greater aversion to it.
@@harringt100when her and Phillip had that fight she took his cig and said ‘those things will kill you’ and Phillip brought up her dad’s cancer
@@harringt100maybe they were taking creative liberties with understandings of the time?
I didn't realise it at the time watching this (series) with Vanessa Kirby, at just how good she was in it; she really was exceptional.
George probably had Margaret as his favorite for the same reason that Elizabeth had Andrew as hers. I'd imagine there was a glass wall between a sovereign and their heir. The idea of knowing that for Elizabeth to rise he'd have to die.
Vanessa Kirby is fabulous in this scene!
I don’t think Margaretes problem is individuality, it’s that she’s rude and selfish sometimes. The real Margaret used to put out cigarettes in peoples hands.
Margaret always aggressively throwing being the favorite in her face was mad disrespectful
What else could they take away from her?
Margaret was very beautiful, Highly recommended series.
1:32 love Margaret's sassy what look here
Love the acting but I’m thankful that never such a conversation could have possibly happened between the two of them - they loved each other far too much for that type of nonsense!!
I imagine they spent their time laughing at things as Margaret told Elizabeth horrid stories about people and Elizabeth did the same…… because they could be themselves with each other and were completely devoted to one another. They probably talked quite a lot about the kids and grandkids, their woes with their respective husbands, their respective passions (horses & ballet), clothes, their hair, ailments, food, upcoming events, etc…. same thing all sisters talk about!! But I don’t believe for one second either of them had a conversation remotely like this one.
Fun for TV drama though!!
Amazing performances ❤
Amazing acting!
I loved Margaret even before she was played by Vanessa Kirby.
Individuality does not equal RUDENESS, Margie baby...
This scene made no sense. How can Margaret sit there and go on about how she wished she had a role and purpose in the monarchy? Rules to follow? She was given the opportunity for a role while her sister was away and she acted up like a teenager. She chose to break the rules.
Looking at this now I cant help but wonder margaret was her dad’s fave but elizabeth surely was her mum’s fave ? And queen mary may have favoured her?
Hopefully none of this resentment will happen between George, Charlotte and Louis.
I’m sure it will. George already is looking much too arrogant to his age. He knows he’s entitled. Unpleasant…
Its likely the British Monarchy will be gone by then.
@@Sugarplum99 Are you insane?

margarets always been a snob
these two started the show
Another highly unlikely conversation
Are we supposed to pity her?? It's not working.
Only Princess Kate could raise up to Queen Elizabeth
Margret must have been the most insufferable person
No
Pretty much, yes. And she rather have surrounded herself with people just like herself so that there was never a reason for her to change. She may have envied her sister, but she was definitely not cut out for the role of monarch.
Why is the lighting so dark?
Denying Margaret's marriage to the Group Captain was such a terrible terrible mistake. She got bitter and miserable and depressed.
Who's in the thumbnail?
THE MONARCHY YES BUT NOT THE MONARCH SHOULD SHINE MAYBE A LESSON FOR THE SUSSEXES
Blah blah blah womp womp womp lies lies lies
I mean they’re not monarchs nor a part of the monarchy anymore. Seems as if they can do what they want.
These two are no different from manyvdidterscwho envy each other's lives. End up hateing each other for no good misunderstood reason. I know it very well. Not with just one but Two sisters who have totally erased me from their lives.
Family, ain't they Grand ....messed up miserable assemblages.
WHY the AI image ?????
They should have traded places for a week, and given everyone something to read about.
You were beautiful & Real Margaret. The Queen was so stifled. Too bad you could share the stage together. I’m so tired of this boredom of sisters. It never stopped the tedious process.
Sounds like will and harry
Families eh
Venessa Kirby is so hot
This is kind of sad, actually. Both of them born in a “gilded cage,” and bound by a “tradition” that they did not ask for.
Another reason to abolish these antiquated monarchies that refuse to appreciate, cultivate, and celebrate the individuality of All Of The Family Members.
Maybe they would produce fewer “entitled scalawags.” js
Individuality brings chaos. That should be the last thing the RF should represent..
