This shows how black and white kids see the world. They connect dots easier. In a sense he is right. Charles didn't drive the car. But one has to wonder how different things would've been if they worked it out.

The frontal lobes of the adult brain are where one's cognitive processes - including logic, reason and rationalization - are stored. That part of the brain isn't fully developed in adult males until around age 20. Thus, most teenagers are physiologically incapable of engaging in the adult art of situational rationalization, which comes with age and life's experience, and they are more prone to act or react on emotion. And that in part is why teenagers get so frustrated with adult hypocrisy and can spot it when we do not. Adults can and will rationalize the behavior, decisions and actions of themselves and others. (Whether they are right or wrong in their rationalization may be another matter.) Teens cannot.

In real life, Charles was the one who insisted Diana lose her HRH status, even when the Queen allowed it. This also meant losing the use of the Royal Family car and security. It is doubtful that the RF driver would've been drinking and likely would've avoided such an accident so in a way, Charles did indirectly cause it.

The scene rings true in the sense that after a death like Diana's, there is a lot of misplaced anger. William can't allow himself to be angry with Diana for dying, so he has to take it out on the next best thing and piles the guilt on his father for the divorce. In truth, it was a series of unfortunate circumstances and decisions led to an unimaginable tragedy. William is at the anger stage of grief here and lashing out. It was probably a very long time until he came to acceptance.

One of the first indicators of trouble in her marriage was when she demanded that she & Charles never go to the country residences, as the Royal Family traditionally did. She hated Balmoral & Sandringham & long walks on the moors. By this point, likely Charles would have been there, she'd have been in London or Paris, & the princes would have split their time between them. William has a point. "She shouldn't have been anywhere near the Fayeds!" Most people who married into royalty know what they are getting into, because they were raised into it. Diana thought Charles loved her, and married him because she wanted a family. If Charles wanted Camilla so much he should have stepped down and chose not to be in line for King, and married Camilla instead. Kids are able to perceive their parents' unhappiness. "How better to break down a personality than by isolating it?" "Moo Moo" was extremely manipulative and used Diana's loneliness to encourage a very inappropriate relationship between her and his engaged son for political gain. Had Diana the support she needed, she would not have been vulnerable to the Fayeds.

Still, no one, not Charles, not Diana, not even Elizabeth, could have predicted it being this bad. How they handled it certainly wasn't the right way, but it took Diana dying for them to understand their places in the tragedy and how that negatively affected everyone...especially the young children who had nothing to do with it.

Diana deserved far better and she gave something to the people that most of royals hardly ever did. Diana showed all of her in her dark times of her marriage with Charles and his mistress, her mental struggles and showing she is just like any other person in the world hurting. And her best in how she made people of the world feel good. She never thought she would be Queen of England but she hoped to be Queen of the people in their hearts. Diana is exactly that to this very day and will remain to be remembered in history. And I think William is the Royal that Diana would have possibly been if she was ever crowned. Plus there was a rumour at the time that Diana basically traded her HRH status for plenty of money from Charles. Probably she felt that he needed to pay through his nose for her misery, but, in hindsight, that was a misguided decision because that took away her police protection. Be that as it may, John Major could have intervened and said "Madam, your daughter-in-law is mother to the future king, and the risks posed to her security and to the royal family as a whole in the absence of a title are too great for the state to accept these terms of the divorce. From a grieving, angry boy's point of view, this makes perfect sense. We as adults understand that life is sometimes very gray, and no, Charles didn't do it. But to William, who always seemed to play the part of the good son, the understanding son, having his mother who he was very close to ripped away so senselessly...in his mind, if the original wound, his parent's divorce, hadn't happened then his mother would have been there with them instead. We logically know that it was just a messy situation and Charles acted selfishly and stupdily, but of course he wasn't "responsible" for this, people split up and fall out. It happens. But I can understand it from William's point of view, from the mind of an angry, wounded child that doesn't care about nuance and can't really conceptualize it and instead just sees the connect-the-dots.

I will never accept Charles as king nor will I ever accept Camilla as queen because of the shameful and disgraceful way that both of them treated Diana during her lifetime, it’s almost as if they drove her to her death and it shows just how dysfunctional the Windsors really are - so what if Diana later on “had affairs” while being trapped in that loveless Marraige, who could blame her? And yet, the traumas of those early years have deeply affected both William and Harry well into their adult lives

This happens in a royal family everyone would want to speculate on different senarios.
I dont think this entire thing was planned, if it was planned camilla would be single, why would she get married to someone else and have 2 or 3 children.
So the car diver also died?
Princess Diana is everyones favorite, if she was in love with that muslim doctor guy, they could have got her married to him, so she would have had a different family and kids.
And the two children(boys) could have stayed with their Dad.They could have ended their relationship in good terms so both are happy.

Well he treated Diana terribly to him she's just the first wife to William and Harry she was their Mother and an excellent one irreplaceable. Eventually William will be King and then it will not just be all about Charles because William is Dianas son he would not even exist were it not for her and he appreciates that although Charles does not.

I totally agree with William in this scene. *Diana had issues* (and she had come from a very dysfunctional family) *and Charles'*
    *selfish behavior exacerbated those issues!*
imho: Charles has been an absolute failure as a husband (to Diana), and by extension, father to his two children.
*I hope and pray for William's and Harry's sake that Charles has reflected on his failures and sought to make amends to his children!*
Sadly, I am afraid that ship has already sailed with Harry ... Harry himself, who appears to have his own issues; has gone too far at this
point, by lashing out at his family in public. Harry has completely ruined his own life by his own choices (including drug and alcohol
abuse) at this point in time.
imho: Charles was so self-absorbed (he still is, it has been noted that he is a narcissist who surrounds himself with syncopates)
that he could not think about what his actions were doing to his children or to Diana.

    • @emilerose1424

What you call Harry's "lashing out" seems to me to be his setting some records straight. Harry couldn't control the palace or the press, but he has the right to tell what he experienced. After he became husband and father, he had the responsibility to remove his family from what they experienced as an emotionally unsupportive and physically threatening realm. You say Harry has ruined his life? To the contrary, Harry has given himself an opportunity for a sterling life. He refused to play "keeper of the pain" just to keep up appearances, and took a chance at testing his wings outside the cage. Harry seems a prince of a man, husband and dad. I wish him and Meghan the best, as I also wish for Will and Kate.

Charles did Diane dirty, I doubt anyone would deny that. He was the one who made her the most unhappy. But then again, he also made with her the two most important people in her life.
Divorce happens. She was miserable with Charles and she was still young. I think she’d have been happy. But it didn’t end that way and the surviving ex-spouse isn’t responsible for either outcome. The cold, hard fact is that life is just unfair. It can be downright cruel and it’s hard to lose someone so important and have no one to blame.

I stopped watching the show before Annus horribilis. I wasn't a Royal fan when all the divorces started happening. To me a Monarchy, especially theirs, is by divine/moral rite. If they can't live by covenants, why should their people? I thought the Queen tried her best, but she got caught up in the times. It showed in her children. Lucky, William is resurrecting family. I might watch that segment. But, I really hated the 90s version of the royals.
