    Good job man. I really liked this table. Very well built. Heavy. Heavy platter. I sold it with some ns-690 speakers and the guy loved the combo. I did a recap as I just do it as a collector. It also had erratic speed, not just pots. Akai and Toshiba had a similar system at this time. Start just drops the needle. Its cool, but a bit odd. Dude should be pleased. In AB they go for $275 CAD detailed with a polished lid. Akai means Red in Japanese.

    The AP 207 was full auto. This one even says “Full Automatic Return”. When you have the arm lift down (stylus on vinyl) and you put the stylus above the track you want to listen to, you cycle the “Start” lever and it lowers the stylus. Cycle it again and it “Cuts” the track and auto-returns the arm. I’ve had my AP 206 C for over 30 years and I need no other! It might outlive me 😂

    Thanks for the tip on the blue Sanyo capacitors. I'll keep an eye out for them.

    Thanks man. I just saved an Akai AP-206 from the dump today, and it suffers from all these problems. Now I know what to do.

    Kudos for the 🤢Sanyo tip!
    Since I was a kid, always had a gut feeling SANYO anything was 🤮 got garbage!
    Fascinating it's still true down to the micro level!

    One question, I've pulled mine apart and noticed the ball bearing for the motor has what looks like a machined out small circle on the bearing surface. Is this intentional or is that worn out?

    Can you tell me if the Akai Ap206 has a built in preamp or no?

    Hi man, i got some problems with the grounding of my Akai AP-206C. It is connected to a Denon AVR S660H receiver.
    How can I fix this?

    Rookie question: where can I buy those replacement caps, and please remind me what values you used. I'm handy enough to do the soldering.

    Tks you for your video and prompt reply. I have been able to adjust offset voltage and now the speed is constant. But the main problem is that my Ap206 will not naturally start by itself when I move the tonearm. I must give the platter a light turn counterclockwise manually , then it turns and maintains its rotation and plays normally. Is there any setting whereby I can solve this issue?

    A couple of questions, further to my AP-206 rescue 2 days ago: what product do you use to clean plinth discoloration, and what cartridge would you use for this turntable? It's mostly clean now, and spinning great. Please let me know.

      You can't clean off plastic discoloration. It would have to be retro-brighted. I would just use a common household cleaner like Windex. Audio Technica AT-VM95 series would work well on that arm.

    I have an AKAI ap206 turntable and am wondering how I hook it up to my Bose unit if possible - do I need an additional piece of equipment?

    • @TurntableGuy
      @TurntableGuy  Před rokem +1

      You probably need an external phono preamp.

    Hi, what is the goal of those capacitors that you changed ? Is this something to see with sound quality or just powering the unit ?
    In fact i have this akai and have verry high frequency hum and when i touch the arm the hum noise get higher...

    • @TurntableGuy
      @TurntableGuy  Před rokem

      Capacitors in a turntable are solely for power. There is nothing in the path between the cartridge and the RCA cables.

      @@TurntableGuy I started wet sanding through 3000 and mcGuires ultimate compound with a touch of water to thin it slightly, the scratch x 2.0 and carnuba wax with a butter soft pad. It leaves a mirror finish.
