Y'know, all these turntables with weird looks and weird designs are essentially BS. Just like most other audio components, turntables shouldn't sound very different from one another (if at all) - if they do then there's something wrong with them. This brings us to a fundamental issue in HiFi audio - that what's being sold to the public is much more to do with brand identity and product differentiation that it is to do with true fidelity performance. If a manufacturer is selling products based on looks or by virtue of having a "special sound", it's purely because they're trying to carve out a market niche for themselves - it's got nothing to do with true fidelity performance. Such products are generally very expensive to boot.

Thank you so much for this video👍 I have a couple of questions. - I have read some "experts" say that you can use Sewing Machine Oil. Do you think that would work out fine aswell? - Do you use the same oil for the motor? - If I don't have this "fine needle oil- tank" that you use when putting oil at the shaft on the motor would it be ok to just use the ordinary tank that you use for putting oil in the bearing? - I have a TD166. Do you use the same amount of oil when you "fill it up"? (I guess it's the same size). As you hear I am an amateur on this 😊

    • @TurntableGuy

Yes, you can use sewing machine oil for the bearing and motor. It is a bit light, but should be fine. Put a drop of oil on the end of a small screwdriver and apply it to the motor shaft.

Hello, great video and very informative. Can anybody recommend a product to clean a platter of a mk5 that has some dark corrosion? I've already used dish soap, alcohol which worked on some pieces, not the metal on the platter. I read somewhere that they used a different alloy on that platter, and not the standard aluminum, but I'm not sure. I've own/owned an mk2, two mk3D's and never had any issues, except for this 1210mk5. I had it in a road case for a few years after buying and it formed some wicked corrosion on most of the metal, especially the platter (which checks out as an original). I've never seen anything like it, there were white crystals on the metal that I had to wipe off first and now I can't get it back to normal. Thanks!
