- I was inspired by tensegrity sculptures made by Kenneth Snelson in the 1970's and decided to make a simple pedestal using this structural design. Here's more info about him: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth...
This is part 1 of 2 in which I construct most of the components.

Awesome. Looking forward to the continuation.
Thanks, I can tell you that it turns out great! I just have a lot of editing to do on the second video.
That's looking great! I really liked your idea for tensioning the wires, I'm looking forward to seeing how it works out!
Thanks, the tentioning was just copied from the reference design. It is very clever and was fun to machine.
I’ve always been fascinated with Tensegrity art. I have never attempted such an artistic project as this. Perhaps one of these days I will give it a go after I get my CNC machine finished. Thank you for sharing this project.
I'm glad you found it interesting. I'm sure you'll enjoy the second video too.
@@GuyMarsdenMakesStuff I really like the optical center punch that you used, I was going to just buy one but they’re rather expensive for what they are. Then I had an aha moment and realized that they aren’t really that difficult to make so I am going to make one.
@@taranson3057 it is a really great tool. I'm not sure whether you could make one as accurate because it really relies on the optics being perfect. The construction of the optic includes a magnifying lens and a precision X cut into the bottom.
@@GuyMarsdenMakesStuff I’ve made optic’s from acrylic rod before, it’s really not that difficult. I have various grit of diamond polish. I also have scribing blades that will cut lines with a width that is in the tenths, I also have a microscope to make sure that I get the lines scribed in their proper place.
@@taranson3057 😮I'm impressed! I have worked with acrylic for over 50 years and would never attempt optics. I'd love to see what you come up with!
