    With the oil pooled at the bottom and the cold at the top all you need is one match and it will solve BOTH problems!

    Exact same principle as the vacuum pumps we used to stick on the taps in the chem labs at school when we were doing vacuum filtration. Never knew it could work on the scale of a room.

    That's exactly how the Ragged Chutes compressed air facility in Ontario worked. Water fell down a penstock taking air with it, leading to an underground chamber where the water and now-compressed air separated, and bam. Cool dry shop air, powered by gravity. Of course it's gone now because all cool engineering feats like that get shitcanned.

    Last year Our whicked gates where pluged by a lot of sticks and leaves, and we couldnt open them up to the needed percentage, so we closed the shutters right before the turbine inlet and let the water drain out, but there where still water leaking throught the shutters but it was low enough for us to open up the hatch and go down there and take all of the stuff off of the turbine. Gotta say the amount of air it was sucking throught the over pressure pipe was insane too bad i cant add any photos of it.

    The downside is the room is not sealed very well...
    Or is that a perk? What would happen if the room was sealed fairly well and atmospheric pressure in the room simply started dropping..
    Ooh, i wonder how far down a "pump" that size could actually go XD

    pretty glad we are getting out of -15/20c weather these days, it really slows down everything and makes every task an endeavour.

  • @Geolaminar
    @Geolaminar Před 2 lety +2

    I wonder how cold it could get if you had left it like that... A Venturi should be capable of a 2:1or greater compression ratio... Which would be, I think, -100C? Of course that's -7 psi, so...

  • @SeanBZA

    You are welcome to come visit here by me, where it is 26C, and the rain that is falling can easily be used to shower in, as it is, despite falling from 10km up in the stratosphere, well heated by compression on the way down, and it is actually warm. However, being a pasty pale Kanucistan, you had better remember to lather your fragile skin with zinc oxide paste, liberally, on all exposed surfaces, because the sunlight will penetrate, and broil you from the inside out, as opposed to the local people, who have a tiny bit more melanin in as sunblock, and get more than enough vitamin D from the tiny amount that penetrates.

    • @Geolaminar
      @Geolaminar Před 2 lety

      Not to nitpick, but isn't water incompressible? Not much drag on a droplet shape to add heat either. Maybe you just have warm rain?

    • @RNMSC
      @RNMSC Před 29 dny

      @@Physicsduck Someone stopped that plan when things stopped breaking and the idiots started vanishing. Really hard to scam the idiots when they were on a schedule, and aren't around anymore. On the other hand, it would probably allow scheduled maintenance to happen when all the customers are away on vacation.

    I think, as much as I bitch about them, that I'd rather a Florida summer than that. I did wonder if there was a venturi kinda effect through the turbine with it all pulled out like that.

    what's bad about a diesel heater?

    • @SeanBZA
      @SeanBZA Před 2 lety +4

      Diesel exhaust has a lot of unburned aromatic compounds that do not combust fully in the brief time it is able to be combusted, so they spread through the air as a noticeable odour. LPG heaters generate a cleaner exhaust, mostly CO2, H2O and CO in small amounts, with almost nothing else as byproduct, due to the short molecules combusting fully, and only trace amounts of thiols, from the mercaptan added to show leaks to the nose.

    • @MysticalDork

      Unless they are brand new and perfectly adjusted, they stink like diesel.

    • @randacnam7321
      @randacnam7321 Před 2 lety +2

      Incomplete combustion, probably of all the big (molecularly speaking) waxes that are put in diesel and nr. 2 fuel oil wut fer pump lubrication. K1 kerosene doesn't have those and stinks less, but kerosene use comes at the expense of, well, expense cuz cost more per unit volume.
