Actually, this is a very common concern. The number one way that people end up losing money to credit card fraud is by someone seeing their credit card number over their shoulder. So I think it's rather believable that she could peep the name

Re: the whole "double standard" thing. She followed him to the checkout of a public grocery store. Not his car, not his house, not his kids' school. Peeping at his credit card was a bit weird but all she did was get his name and then she went home and looked him up on social media - not really all that weird, idk what else you use social media for besides looking people up and snooping on the parts of their life they choose to share publicly. The rest about the mom and the bookclub also sounds weird but, again, the woman joined an open club and just facilitated the circumstances where two people might otherwise meet organically. At the end of the day, she gave HIS MOM her number and still left the ball in his court to contact her - she didn't ask for his phone number, or email, or address so that she could actually stalk and harass him.
As a grown man who used to be a young, attractive woman and who had older women try to set me up with their sons - this would've made me infinitely more comfortable than all the times that men approached me at work, or while running errands, or on public transportation, or abused their access to my private contact information to try and make a move on me. I don't think the "if a man had done it" thing really works in this situation because, if you are arguing that this is unhinged behavior for a woman, then replacing her with an unhinged man would've been a completely different situation. Unhinged men follow women home, or they follow them to the parking lot and then physically assault the women who reject them. Unhinged men impose themselves on women's physical space - they show up randomly at her gym or place of employment to orchestrate an "organic" meeting in person, conveying the extremely uncomfortable reality that he has physical access to her if she turns him down.
In contrast, she found him on facebook but passed on the opportunity to use it to contact or harass him, and she never tried to learn anything about where she could find him from day-to-day so that she could randomly insert herself into his physical bubble. She knows where he sometimes grocery shops and where his relative attends a book club. She now has his phone number because she, at worst, arranged a situation where he would have the choice whether or not to give his phone number to her, without an uncomfortable physical interaction and without putting him in the position where he would have to reject her to her face, or even at all. Its certainly not how I would go about talking to someone I found attractive, but it is a million times better than the multiple maintenance workers who came to my home to fix something, and then used the phone number or email address they had in their system to contact me afterward and ask me out. That shit is extremely scary; this is, absent any escalation in behavior, just a bit uncomfy.
