How to write a response post - Here's how I outline an article and choose subheadings

  • In this video I share my screen while I outline a question/answer post, or response post. I've had some great results with these types of articles over the years in terms of traffic. I often monetize these types of articles with both affiliate links and display ads as well.
    First I show the keyword I chose and I go over why I chose it. Then I show you what my article outlining process might look like. This comes before researching and writing the article, and before adding images or other content enhancers.
    Getting this part wrong can ruin an article's chances of success. I tend to outline response posts for my writers just so I'm sure what I'm getting back, it only takes a few minutes to do.

    Another great piece of content. The subscriber count doesn’t reflect the quality of this channel. I guess the style isn’t flashy and noisy enough for today’s tastes - but it suits me to a T and the quality of the content is up there with the best. If you’re looking for substance over form - not that there’s actually anything wrong with the form - then this is the channel to watch. Keep up the good work and thank you.

    Jesse, I just wanted to know that 'when you sit to write a piece of content for your niche blog, how many words do you type in an hour?' and 'how much time does it takes you to write a 2000 words article?' Btw thanks for the valuable tips that you just mentioned in the video, congratulations on leaving your day job.

      I’ve never really timed myself, I’d say a couple of hours to research and write an article of that length after I have it outlined. Of course though it really depends on the topic.

    Awesome vid! But I do have a few questions:
    1) What do you do if on people also ask you don't get VERY "related" or "remotely related" subheadings? Do you still just add them to push the length of the article?
    2) When to know if a subheading can be written as a whole article by itself?
    3) Do you also create separate article on one of your subheadings if it the keyword has volume?
    Most of the time when I do keyword research I find keywords that can fit on a main topic, so I don't know if I make a seperate article for that or just include that on a bigger article.

    • @NicheInformer
      @NicheInformer  Před 3 lety +1

      Honestly these are all judgement calls, sometimes you can write full articles on these subheadings and link to that full article from the subheading within the other article. If that makes sense.
      Basically though you just want subheadings as closely related as possible, but you never try and push the length of the article. Word count doesn’t really matter, it’s the amount of helpful info you can pack into an article without becoming redundant or straying too far from the main topic

    Hey Jesse! Nice and informative video. A couple of questions:
    1) Are you using a “table of contents” plug-in on your articles (for SEO purposes, meaning the Google bot will scan the page faster) ?
    2) If you are using images on your article, how many do you use for let’s say a 1000 words article?
    Thank you!

    • @NicheInformer
      @NicheInformer  Před 3 lety +2

      I do use a table of contents plugin, but I usually save it for really long articles and manually put the short code in the post.
      For a 1k word response post like this one, 2-4 images maybe. It depends, I’ll often publish with just a featured image only and come back later once it’s start to rank and add additional images.

    I normally just give my writers the main keywords and then let them pick the subheadings. It's hard for me to decide to include these subheadings in the same article, or just have a seperate article and send that one to my writer as well.

    • @NicheInformer
      @NicheInformer  Před 3 lety

      Some writers have been able to outline their own articles for me, some just never seem to get the hang of it no matter how many screencasts , instructions and tutorials I send them. They're still good writers and I don't want to let them go so I just outline for them.

  • @fantasycloud1945
    @fantasycloud1945 Před 2 lety

    Would the article title still be the same as Do Cats Whiskers Grow Back?? Also I noticed when you do keyword research like even before article creation do you get the keywords or do you do this content briefing AFTER you get the initial keyword? This is a solid video. But could you make a video on HOW to find THIS 1 keyword so to speak if you get what I mean. Normally I personally never wrote an article this way, I 'd just mimic competitors and try to make mine longer and more keywords.

    • @NicheInformer
      @NicheInformer  Před 2 lety

      Yes, the title will generally have the keyword in it… but I will often add something to the end such as: Do Cat’s Whiskers Grow Back? (Explained) or something similar
      I’ll keep that in mind, but I’ve honestly not been able to find a good way to make videos on keyword research. I feel like a lot of my process is being left out of the video, or it’s hurried and doesn’t reflect it accurately.

    Great content! How do you research content for a keyword if there is no data on the web?

    • @NicheInformer
      @NicheInformer  Před 3 lety

      If there is actually no info on the web then chances are the topic isn’t getting much search volume. Otherwise you have to research manually... i.e. through real life experience, phone calls, outreach to experts in the niche etc
