I have carried my gopro every time I surface hunt. Many hours of video and no diamond until now! I spent 7 hours one day trying to find one, filming as I went. I even overheated the camera during the summer walking the west side above Canary hill with it on the stick at ground level, just looking. I am so glad I took the last two hours, and filmed the whole time. I feel bad about whining about never finding one on the surface to those tourists though...
You know, in a pinch you could have put that between yer cheek and gum, that would have kept it safe. Spit wash it like the gold prospectors do.
They were almost calling your name, clear the field! LOL

Have you ever dug down and found a rounded vent with cinders material circling the vent? I found one with a rounded rock in it; as if the rock had tumbled until round like a small cannon ball. Just wondering was that a vent or what?
Hmmm. I have not. There were several old drill holes from early mine testing. I am not sure the diameter though.
@@TheArkansasDiamondMiner I did a bit of research and think it is a Lamporite vent. I am bringing the small, ball, shaped rock back for Mr Cox to have a look at it. Thank you for your reply.

Well done. I'll be there next week and will be doing some surface hunting but mostly washing gravel. Do you think sunglasses would help whilst surface hunting in bright sun or will they hinder a person from seeing the sparkle of a diamond on the surface?

Idk man your videos usually say panning is the best method. Don’t a lot of big finds come from surface hunting ? Maybe with a bunch of kids surface hunting may be the best method ?
Big finds can come from surface hunting, but are far fewer. They are easier to see, so it makes sense, but wet sifting is far more productive, especially with a Saruca to concentrate. Large diamonds are found wet sifting just the same, and many more so. You will sooner hear about a large surface find because it is the easiest and most attractive method for tourism, so makes for a good news release. As a whole, only a small percentage of the number of annual finds are surface finds, and by carat, the number is equally small. And yes, kids are close to the ground and have better eye sight, so they can find them if they search diligently!!!
