  • How to use a standard expression pedal with a Morningstar MIDI controller to unlock the next level of control for your rig. You can simultaneously control multiple pedals and effect parameters all with the same expression pedal. Now you are no longer limited to controlling only one device with your expression pedal.

The Morningstar MC8 was not a cheap purchase for me (I was so eager for one I had to pay shipping to the UK!), but one of the best I have ever made. This is due in large part to the excellent support staff, who have solved any issue I had in a prompt and clear manner, and also due to the excellent software integration, and these fantastic tutorials! I've owned it for over a year now, and I'm still learning new things, and Morningstar are still adding regular firmware and software updates, allowing me to get more and more out of this amazing little beast. I'm awaiting the delivery of an expression pedal today that I'll be using to control Ableton and my HX Stomp through the MC8, and in just a few minutes I've learned everything I need. Thank you Morningstar for making the headache of MIDI a pleasure again!

Yes, we updated the Editor since this video was released. You now have to select the Exp pedal you want to edit from the right column. Or else you can enable the Editor Setting that allows you to load preset/exp data upon pressing a switch or moving an exp pedal. However, that will cause certain functions not to work until you disconnect from the Editor.

This controller is really great ! I get it to control Meris Enzo & Lvx pedals and I would like to change presets on both pedals at the same time and control different parameters with the expression pedal at each preset change. Is this possible ?
So it would seem that by changing presets I can also control different parameters with the expression pedal right ?
For example, preset 1 sounds like I personally decided on Enzo and lvx and the expression pedal for example changes the filter on the Lvx and delay time on Enzo, while with preset 2 it sounds obviously different and the expression pedal changes the feedback on pedal 1 and resonance on pedal 2. Do you think that's possible?

This is probably obvious, but as a novice to MIDI I need some guidance. Must I also connect my individual pedals' expression ports to the Morningstar MC6 Pro omniports for functionality with my Lehle dual expression, or will the Lehle's connection to my MC6 Pro omniport (in tandem with the individual pedals already connected via midi) suffice for expression usage? I think one omniport used to connect my expression pedal to the controller--while connected to my pedals via MIDI--should work fine. What Morningstar have done with MIDI is honestly blowing my mind. The opportunities for experimentation and control are incredible. Thanks.

Hi. We've replied your email and are pasting the response here too for public knowledge. What you mentioned is possible. Would it be possible to use expression over Midi with an H9 and easily switch between expression and volume with the MC6 or MC3, while keeping trails? On the H9, if I assign a global parameter to have expression control input or output volume, you lose expression parameters within the presets. You have to dig back into the general settings to change that. Too inconvenient. Now, if you assign expression to input volume within an H9 preset itself, then the problem is you still have expression control when you only want volume control.

Then with a button on the h9, I switch to the CC that controls the expression input. and voila, control of volume and expression with a single pedal. the only caveat is that you need neutral patch on the h9 just for volume. I use on of the EQ patches, in flat-eq, so I switch the H9 to that in order to use it as volume.

Hi. Do you mean 2 software plugins in your DAW? It is possible. You need to set each MIDI track in your DAW to respond to a different MIDI channel each. You can then control them independently.

@@MorningstarEngineering oh I see, thanks for answering. But running plugins outside a daw like standalone there's no chance to choose between 2 for instance?
Sorry for my lack of knowledge, I'm new to it in general

@@yow_shadow That depends on whether your plugins allow you to assign them to receive MIDI on different channels

I need to see you guys do this stuff with midi keyboards. You missing a whole market by not advertising this with midi keyboards.
For example a person maybe playing virtual organ and by using multiple 61 midi keyboards, and they want to control the volume or both however
to achieve such a thing one would have to be connected to and external midi device, neither of the midi keyboards and then would have to be able to send multiple midi
channels and midi CC to control the volume on both midi boards. I believe your product does this but there is no true indication because you don't market to keyboard players, most of your marketing is isolated to only guitar players. Please fix this!
