Depends on how often you fish.
If you fish often,it's better to get high end gear,so it'll last you. Gears between $100-$300 would be good.
If you're a big game fish angler u want heavier duty gears- like $1000 reels

I have the 2500 standard slammer with 15 lb braid and it’s notorious for making wind knots. I have Shimanos too and they NEVER have wind knots. I love the concept that Penn has but it does not seem to work. Wish I could make it work. I’ve already removed a lot of line. Help?
U get wind nots on slammer of u have line spool filled up all the way

Nice! -- QUESTION --- Could someone please PLEASE explain what a 2500 is vs a 3500 reel. What, exactly, is being measured by those numbers? Is it the diameter of the reel in milometers? Please be specific. If it measure nothing, does it simply mean "small, medium and large"?? Why does no one explain this?
There is no industry standard so you are right it just means small/medium/large etc. as a relative measurement. Something like a penn 2500 will be closer to a shimano 4000 than a shimano 2500. If you want to see definite measurements you should look at how much mono goes on the reel due to the fact that it is true to size. This way you can get an idea of how large the different reel sizes are comparatively between each brand.
